World Cup 2018 - Russia

Wohoo.

Croatia is good.

Please let the good team win.

Work has been hell today. Got alert on my phone about England goal and just sat down to watch and it's tied.

Maybe I'll get to watch overtime

Posted this in the Discord but figured I would ask here as well:

Question: why are several of these teams being referred to as "golden generation"? The American announcer just said that about Croatia and they were saying it yesterday about Belgium.

Meaning they had a bunch of great players come of age around the same time to be able to play together.

Only have half an eye on this 2nd half but Croatia are so much better than the first. Not sure why but Modric but I'd guess Modric roaming more side-to-side to get out of the box England had him in has something to do with it.

They've had the best group of players they've had in a while. Definitely true for Belgium and Croatia this tournament.

Though sometimes you get false Golden Generations like when England used to try to cram Scholes, Gerrard, and Lampard together into a midfield.

Harry Kane is having a very Sterling evening.

Meaning...he's doing a lot of thankless work that leads to chances for others, while failing to score himself?

Yup.

Basically when Sterling lost his legs is when England lost the midfield.

Ok, thanks for the answers.

TIL

England hanging with a midfield with Modric and Rakitic in the first place was miraculous.

Rashford looked immediately very good, but I guess who wouldn't surrounded by players as exhausted as these.

It was very psychological. It happened right after Croatia's goal. Southgate seems to have corrected it for the after time.
But then again, England gave the midfield away after the first goal and just sat deep. It was very effective. Croatia couldn't do much, until they tied that is.

Oh boy

Brexit Means Brexit.

Yeah, I think so too. Very reliant on Sterling's work and movement to give them options to move the ball forward and not having a like-for-like replacement or good midfield passers means they look lost without him.

Luka Modric is without question one of the best 3 midfielders in the world, right?

Yup.

I can't get over the Steve Nash resemblance.

Man it’s the hope that kills you

Sorry mate(s)

They're going home.

Fair play to Croatia - I hope they go on and win it now as I'd really like a new name on the trophy.

England's open play impotence comes home to roost.

Don't understand why Pickford was kept back on that '120+'4 free kick.

Better team won, can’t deny that. And if you’d told me we’d make the semi’s at the start of the tournament I would have taken your hands off. But that hurts a little. We should have been 3-0 up by the end of the first half. But fair play to Croatia. They are going to get annihilated by France though in the final.

Stone. Cold.

NOT YET.

We still have that highly-anticipated rematch coming up: England's Reserves vs Belgium's Reserves.

I bet Harry Kane plays in that one to try to guarantee the Golden Boot.

Less than 5 million people, have only been independent since 1991, and have just been ridiculously good most of that time, considering.

Oh damn, in the excitement I had forgotten that England vs Belgium 2 - This Time it Really Doesn't Matter can still be a thing.

Good game glad it got decided in OT and not PKs. I don't think France is going to annihilate Croatia. Croatia is solid enough to keep the game close. Hopefully Croatia will pull out the win on Sunday.
