NFL 2018 Offseason Thread

Barnwell: These six teams will win fewer games in 2018.

The six: Minnesota, Pittsburgh, Carolina, Buffalo, Arizona, Tennessee.

I can't disagree with Carolina. The Panthers fell upward into an 11-win season last year. They have too much turnover, and a so-so O-line that's already down a guy.

But this is infuriating:

Turner might improve Newton as a passer, of course, but it's a curious choice to have a quarterback with Newton's skill set and bring in an offensive coordinator who has spent virtually his entire pro career working with pocket passers.

*sigh* ... repeat after me: Cam is a pocket passer who can run over a MLB. I don't know why that's so hard to figure out.

The story has a link to the six teams that Barnwell thinks will win more games this season. He went out on a limb in that piece and predicted the Browns won't go 0-for-the-season again. #brave

By definition. the Browns are not on that list!

There is truly a GIF for everything.

The Good Place is just great. It's got philosophy, morality, ethics, and constant bashing of the Jacksonville Jaguars.

It looks like Madden edited Kapernick's name out of one of the songs in the soundtrack.

That is harsh.

That's messed up.

Ugh everything in and around the NFL is so crap. Maybe this is the year to follow college ball instead.

Too true.

This is only the second most obvious case of collusion in the US right now.

Usually it's the players I have no idea who they are, not say the Bears head coach in this instance.

I'm going to have to watch too much of this game to see Lamar Jackson on the field aren't I?

Apparently the editing of Kaep's name was an "unfortunate mistake." Which I'd call BS on if not for the following from a good friend of GWJ:

Hey Lamar Jackson TD.

I'm not supposed to be watching football but for my guy, I will a little bit.

He didn't look particularly good last night. He had one drive where he was looking downfield, but for the most part, he was looking like third year RG3. RG3, in contrast, looked a lot better.

Also, the O-line looks terrible. The interior, in particular, looked like it was going to get victimized in a big way all year.

Did you read the quote from EA?

Members of our team misunderstood the fact that while we don’t have rights to include Colin Kaepernick in the game, this doesn’t affect soundtracks. We messed up, and the edit should never have happened.

EA had to remove Kaep from in-game because of a rights issue. That rights issue didn't extent to soundtracks and what Rob is saying is that rights are so damn confusing that it's a simple mistake to not understand that while you had to scrub Kaep from the game you didn't have to do so from the soundtrack.

In this one instance I would think it was more likely a simple mistake by a team of devs than collusion between EA and the NFL to sh*t on Kaep. For EA/Tiburon it was probably better safe to remove him from the song than it was to leave it in and deal with a potential lawsuit down the road.

First preseason game and, even worse, it's the HoF game. I'm not drawing any conclusions about anything from this glorified padded practice other than of course RG3 looked better because he's a vet.

Ever since I was old enough to start following the NFL (early 2000's) I've been a Patriots fan (an sometimes Steelers fan, though I don't like the diva's on their team now). I've obviously picked an incredibly great time period to start watching a sport and have the team I love enjoy so much success.

I also have a bucket list goal of watching an NFL game in every stadium that's currently active or active when I go, obviously can't go back to San Diego right now :'(. These two things are merging amazingly this fall as my Dad and I just got tickets to go watch Miami Dolphins @ New England Patriots September 30th (in less than two months). I've always dreamed of getting the chance to see Tom Brady play in New England at Gilette since I was a little little boy and now that dream is going to come true!!!! I'm over the moon excited!!!!!

Thanks for the correction, I thought the included quote was what was linked so I did not click on it.

Some terrible and small people would call you a frontrunner. Thankfully I am not one of them. It was also amazing to watch our Golden State Warriors repeat as champs right?

Grats on the tickets!

HOFG is trash football, even from a watch-the-bubble-guys perspective.

It was fun to see how quick Jackson moves around, but also probably rather enlightening to him how quickly gaps close.

I didn't watch the game, I wonder what I missed...

Johnny Manziel made his CFL debut.

Threw 4 INTs in the 1st half. Team lost 50-11.

Not gonna say anything. I won't be surprised if Pat Mahomes has a similar start this season. I'm excited, and I think he is the real deal, but man, he may go through a rough season or two.

The test is, how will Manziel react. With Mahomes, the Chiefs have a QB that is all-in, and I have no doubt he will put in the work to get better, if things go south.

We'll see if Manziel gets back to work, or if he found a flight to NOLA after the game.

So I didn't notice this at first, but Manziel was actually traded and is playing on a new team (Montreal Alouettes), which I guess is how he got the start.

It didn't register with me because the team he played against was the one that traded him (Hamilton Tiger-Cats). Apparently this trade happened 11 days ago, and he was basically stuck out on the field without much preparation.

The Tiger-Cats are coached by June Jones, and are a competitive team, so Manziel being put on the field when he's not ready to play well didn't make sense to me.

The Alouettes are coached by... Mike Sherman.

Suddenly this whole thing makes SO MUCH more sense.

I know the people involved. It was a bona fide mistake. A boneheaded one, no doubt. But a sincere error, nonetheless.

Finally. Some quality NFL content.

Who the heck is that supposed to be? They really need to get a new sculptor after some of the disasters in recent years.

That’s supposed to be Ray Lewis.

I don't feel like it's about to scream at me about this evil we call crime.
