Fallout: 76 Catch-All

I'm not sure where the idea that John Denver didn't exist in the Fallout timeline came from. It being a post-50's song isn't really an issue, since New Vegas has songs that weren't written until 1998 and 2010.

Fallout 76 will have VATS.

Well. There it is. Interested to see how this works.

I grew up around Charleston, WV during the Cold War, and I can't tell you how chilling it was to see people nuke my hometown. It is weird to me that the nightmare that we hid under our desks to avoid about once-a-month is the goal of this new game.

I imagine it'll work like some sort of aim-assist, where if you get your crosshair in the right general area it'll count as a hit. That or it'll reduce the recoil and the bloom/spread that a gun would normally have.

Real-time VATS! O.o

I do wish Bethesda would stop hogging the Fallout license and let someone else have a go. If they want to keep moving away from original Fallout then why call it Fallout? I guess there's always Wasteland 3 to look forward to.

This is a bullsh*t article. It just talks about previous games and near the end has the only meaningful sentence.

"Maybe it will just be a ton of fun. We’ll know when we see the game."

There's absolutely nothing of them having any new info. Just a f*ckton of whinging.

If you have Prime you can get a 20% preorder discount on the standard edition at Amazon today (something they did away with last year). So $47.99 + tax.

It's like the NMA forums fiasco all over again.. man did those people hate Fallout 3.

Lot of info!

24-32 players ... we should easily be able to make a GWJers server!

Great video. Pretty much answers all my questions.

I know I'll buy it. At this point I'll just wait and see what it actually delivers. I'll get my Wasteland series to deliver a deep RPG experience and roll the dice on 76.

What would really sell me - and I know it can't really happen - is if they said "oh and it will have cross play between PSX, Xbox, and PC"

Totally not in their power to change Sony or MS but I would love it.

Microsoft already allows cross play with several games. Sony's the lone holdout for full cross play, and even then it's just cross play with other consoles they don't allow, they allow PC - PS4 crossplay.

Great video with lots of great info. Unfortunately nothing in the game-play portion makes me think this won't immediately suffer from the Ark open server exploitation/abuse/troll problem.

It definitely will and they mention that they're waiting to see what happens first, but they have ways to handle it. "levers in place"... "ways to solve this"

the cynic in me thinks those ways involve "counting money" and "laughing," but I sincerely hope they do have some ideas they haven't revealed yet.

But it’s 24 to 32 people. That’s easily a gamers with job only doable, right?

Yea but we don't know the details yet. The way they describe teams of 4 and 12v12 makes me worried they may make it hard for large groups to be together, but at the same time i can't believe they would prevent it.

They have a proven solution for all design issues, which they have used so many times before; mods. Let the community fix it
Mutations sound like they could be interesting.
Robot vendors (which sounded very much not confirmed) reminded me of Star Wars Galaxies, with a mix of nostalgia and intense hate. Turn the game into an economics game and I might be in! Get rich with an army of robot farmers and hire other people to destroy anyone (everyone) who might consider to nuke you.
Loot boxes!

Did they explain how building works? If you set up a base at some place, and load into a server where someone else have a base, what happens :S

Like SWG plots it gets packed up and put into your inventory.

I imagine to start they'll have a bounty system for pvp. They talked about hubs so they might also have a way to turn whatever automated defenses they have against people who are just going around killing other players.
With a team limit of 4 (outside of the deathmatch mode), I think that organizing any large groups of goodjers will require some outside coordination and possibly a third party client for group-wide voice chat.

I don't think that's un-dooable. At the 29 minute mark Howard starts talking about player vs player and players vs the world - so, quick show of hands: Who would be interested in a GWJ-er only server where we don't attack other human players; a Build Only - Help Your Friends - No Griefing World?

Backstabbing is not griefing if you did not see who did it. Right?
Hopefully they realize the importance of invite only servers. At least it would make me much more interested.

Those of us who have had servers for other games have been doing this for awhile now.

For this game though, the big thing is for the end game crafting... some place needs to be nuked.

I certainly would, but I think that might be more of a hassle that it's worth until they allow for private servers. It shouldn't be that hard to coordinate (just a daisy chain of people join their friend who's already on a map), but you can't kick people off the server so your friend can join. They way they talked about not wanting the player to see the server at all makes me think there won't be anything like a server browser that other survival games have, so we wouldn't be able to see how many open spots there are and would just have to keep trying to join until there's an open spot. That could potentially take a long time to get even 10 goodjers on the same map, let alone 32.

The nukes can be used to nukes player bases, but it seems like they've already got suggested targets areas. The nukes seal the rifts the bat-creatures come out of, and I'm guessing there won't be many player bases near those as their stuff would get wrecked often. Nukes can be launched at other places and still change those areas for the high-teir resources/loot, but I like that they've got a built in reason not to nuke player bases.
