Instead of clinging to the past, guess I'll cross post here: Coming 2019 to PC, Mac, PS4 and Xbox.

Rumors, innuendo, and shocking allegations from the floor of PDXCON2018, taken from the forums, reportedly from the developers:

Age of Wonders: Planetfall is roughly three years into development, running on a new generation of our multi-platform Creator Engine.

"Campaign will be totally different. While main story lines are fixed, most of the maps will be rmg like generated. This also causes secondary storylines with consequences in later campaign levels."

Michiel van den Bos is doing the music! The tune played at Planetfall Announce is actually the main title tune of the game made by Michiel.

Besides the typical world overview, the series’ turn-based tactical battle map will also return with destructible environments. You’ll also be able to customise your units’ weaponry, and create your own unique House. There are several victory types, including conquest, diplomacy, and doomsday technologies.

There will be Dwarves in this game. Undead will be a bit like cyborgs, units that survived the catastrophe due to their augmentations, they’re essentially reanimated with technology and will be a dwelling.

Stack size is confirmed to remain at 6.

Intention is to release with mod tools, but there are no promises about it.

Production and research overflow are confirmed.

Embargo has been lifted, so there are some journalists that have played the demo. Look out for that.

Also, permanent flying is back.

Tombles is talking about AI. And they’re really serious about making an AI that “can play the game,” (paraphrasing his words.)

There are drones in the game in some way, shape or form.

“Gas bomb” area denial tool.

There are “several dwelling races,” with “more of a map presence.”

Diplomacy will be more relevant than in AoW3.

Most objects on tactical combat maps can be interacted with, so you can destroy the cover in front of enemies.

In tactical combat, you can do things like call in sattelite or missle strikes, or call in marine reinforcements from space.

That setting looks incredible.

Color me intrigued.

Triumph Studios interview coming up after Stellaris, according to rumors.
Also, Information Compilation Thread.

Looks like my kind of game. But will I have the time to play it?

More tidbits culled from convention goers:

The many races that were once close, no longer recognize each other. Some of these include:

Skeleton cyborgs (We know this to be a dwelling race)

Miners (We can assume this to be the Space Dwarves, but it also sounds like they are a dwelling)

Insectoids (Confirmed to be one of the 6 playable races)

Elves are now Amazons, a race of super women that genetically improved themselves. They also continued on to modify animals, such as massive dino mounts instead of mechs.

Heroes can pilot vehicles and Amazons pilot giant dinos.

No, but you'll buy it, just like me.

Pretty much, yeah.

Still haven’t touched Stellaris.

Huh, I'll have to keep an eye on this.

Even though I have yet to finish or even really get a good game of AoW 3 going, I’ll still pick this up on day one.

I feel like I should have saw this coming.

I always get Age of Wonder confused with Rise of Nations/Rise of Legends and I was hoping we were getting a sci fi Rise of Legends.

Still will probably pick this up.

Age of Wonders is one of my favourite games of all time, and really the only 4X game that I still dip my toes into from time to time. Sci-Fi setting with similar mechanics makes me SO EXCITED.

Gameplay reveal starts now on Twitch.

Never played any of the Age of Wonders games, but the idea of a Civ/Endless Legend game with XCOM combat sounds like it could be right up my alley. The stream makes it look like the game is exactly what I thought/hoped it is.

I didn't see the reveal re-posted anywhere. Is there a link to the footage?

Awesome thanks!

Oh wow, I had no idea there was another AoW in the works.
I've sort of fallen off of III, but color me interested in this.

Apparently this faction spotlight is a week old, but Youtube only just spat it out at me. This is looking like my first faction of choice, without a doubt.

Looks like we have a release date of August 6 for Planetfall. We also have pricing for the base game ($50) and the base game plus a season pass. ($90)

I'm expecting to get this one close to launch, which is something I don't do often, since I really like the idea of this game. Still a bit concerned about there only being six factions to start with, but then again I've never bought an AoW or a Paradox game at launch.

There's a streaming event going on this weekend. LINK
I might not be checking it out because City of Heroes, but I'd be interested in others' impressions.

I watched about 30 minutes of a stream so far, so my impressions are limited. But the main thing that stands out is how combat oriented the game is; they only went maybe a turn or two at the strategic level before getting in a fight. And the fights seemed pretty good and moved fairly quickly, although they were mostly just shooting back and forth (I didn't see a lot of abilities in play, but it seemed early to mid game or so, so they wouldn't have had everything yet). I think their idea of having a percent for a shot to graze and do less damage even if the shot misses is a good innovation for reducing some of the frustration of the hit/miss mechanics of the XCOM games. It also seemed like there was good unit variety, although the streamer I was watching didn't always know what to do with what he had.

One of the things that seemed most remarkable was how detailed the strategic map looked, and how different the layout of the tactical maps were based on what the strategic map looked like (city, fields, cliffs, ruins, craters, etc.)

I'm pretty interested in Planetfall, but since there are only 6 factions at launch, I'm toying with the idea of just waiting for the first big expansion to come out and hopping on it then. I didn't play the previous AoW games, but based on some reviews it looked like it took that extra fleshing out and extra mechanics to really get where it was going. I'd be interested to hear from those who did play a lot of AoW3 to see if they would agree.

OK, I'm running out of time on the Planetfall deal at GMG. It's not so much whether I should get it, but whether I should get the version with the season pass. After the coupon it's about an extra $30. Worth it if they are all Age of Wonders 3 expansion quality, but Paradox sometimes drops the ball on season pass / DLC quality.

Any enablers or sense talkers?

Neither an enabler nor a sense talker. But realize that Paradox is publishing not developing the game. I assume as the publisher they have input into the DLC for it but they seem to give the devs some latitude. As comparators, look at the DLC for other Paradox published (not developed) games like Surviving Mars and Cities Skylines to see what the track record has been.

I bought that deal for the uber deluxe get everything version last week. You should too.

Kidding aside, based on what I've seen of the game so far, I think it's going to be something I'll like and want to play sooner than later. It's always a greater risk to buy before release, so maybe I'll regret it, but it felt like a decent bet given their track record with the other AoW games.

AoW 3 with the 2 expansions feels like a complete game, due to additional races, new classes, interesting gameplay concepts like luck and despair, and new treasure sites (battle arenas, if you will).

If Planetfall is anything like AoW 3 the expansions will be essential.

How'd I do?

From a money perspective, the difference between the two versions is $30 with the discount, so if you get the version with the Season Pass that's $10 per expansion and you get them at release.

My thinking was that they'll be at least $15 to $20 for each expansion, and it'll take a while before they'll see a discount to $10.

Same kind of risk with quality, but I figured it was a safe enough bet that the expansions will be something I want and that I won't want to monkey around waiting a few weeks for each of them to drop in price.

OK, I went all in. I loved AoW3. I do prefer fantasy over scifi by quite a bit, but some of the changes to the game sound really cool.

Cool! August is coming.

I got my key today from Green Man Gaming. Unlocks in 4 days. Woot!
