Battlefield V - Catch All

If you'd asked me before Apex if I'd be interested in a BR mode for BFV I'd say, hell no. Now, I am a cautious "maybe".

It's like PUBG but I get to actually drive the tractor AND pull a cannon behind it. HELLS TO THE YEAH!

Looks solid. Wondering if there will be enough GWJ PS4 players to get some groups together?

Looks good. I like the twist with vehicles to mix it up from other BR's

Exactly why i think i'm not going to like it.

I'll be on tonight playing. Been looking forward to this for a long time.

Been watching some streams and the vehicle aspect is not as big as they make it out to be. Of course, it looks and sounds amazing.

Looting looks to be god awful though...

I plan to be on , I hope. Both kids with stomach virus. F...

I'll try to hop on tonight as well. I am interested in seeing how it compares to Apex.

Played a few rounds at lunch and it's good and bad. LOVE the look and feel. The guns do feel good, but the UI is complete garbage especially inventory and looting. It also has a lot of the stupid camping bullsh*t that pubg has.

Regarding UI, I feel like Apex really nailed this. Probably too late for DICE to incorporate a lot of it into their mode but maybe in a patch.

So, this is pretty much just Fortnite in a BF skin right? Played 5 rounds tonight and I'm not really enjoying it. Just too much idle time compared to normal BF. To each their own I guess...

Yes this is a battle royale done the BF way.

Their QA should've stopped them with this. You're essentially digging through a pile of crap trying to grab what you want and hope you don't replace something you wanted by mistake.

There's also an annoying bug/design decision is when you swap out a weapon is spits out all the ammo of that type out for you to pick up again. Which if you don't notice you're walking away with a single round in your brand new gun even though you had max ammo for it before that.

I guess I was just expecting a bit more BF flavoring than a dime for dime copy.

Not sure what that would be. This is definitely a BF version of a BR. That part they've nailed down. The vehicles, scenery, terrain, guns, and gunplay are definitive BF.

It's always been marketed as a BR since it's announcement. So that tells us what the game play loop will be. That was never going to change. There's nothing else left except the details on specific BR mechanics. Like loot, armor, vehicles, drops. All that we've been getting for the last two weeks.

Coming back to this after playing tons of Apex there is a shock being back to where you can be taken down quickly from someone you have never seen then spectating long matches with the remains of your team.

Spectating (on xbox at least) is terrible. The third person view means you can't see what people are shooting at a lot of the time. The constant jittery movement is horrible.

I joined three squad games with randoms and in two of those three I jumped alone. Not sure if that is people dropping out or the games fault. In my last couple of games I joined a squad before the game and we ended up third including some tank and helicopter time. Much more enjoyable.

Very easy to lose people along the way. A full squad at the end is very strong and it seems to pay to be careful rather than aggressive. Landing with others at the start can ruin the game seconds from hitting the ground. All very PUBG.

Footsteps are really loud. Playing on my own camping in bushes you can pick up easy one off kills.

Looting is a mess. I hate it. Sometimes I can see what I want but can't get a hold of it. The inventory takes up a large amount of the screen- I don't need to see how much of every ammo type I have all the time. The amount of time looking at the ground... ugh. Spectating other people looking at the ground...

Vehicles didn't seem to be a problem.

These are the gripes but the rest of the Battlefield good stuff is here: brilliant graphics, variety in guns, variety in gameplay (surprising amount of close quarters fighting).

PLayed about 6 rounds last night and I came out of it pretty lukewarm but hopeful. I have been really spoiled by so many of the QOL things in Apex such as a great loot system, UI, round turnover and the ability to come back after being down. While this game is light years better in terms of graphical fidelity and sound it falls flat in its awful oversimplistic UI and terrible loot system. Figure out what ammo goes with what weapon is very obtuse at first.

I really don't mind the time to kill ratio. This is a more realistic scenario and I actually enjoy how quick it is to take people down along with the accurate bullet ballistics. The level design is top notch and there are so many great spots on this map. Vehicles feel no different than in Blackout so they are not a big deal power wise. The firestorm itself is just amazing. Seeing that wall of flame create embers in the area as it approaches and decimating buildings on impact along with the visual of people running out of it on fire is really visceral.

I really hope that they don't give up on Firestorm. This is a really solid base of a game and with improvements in various areas, this really can be a contender. The price tag to get in is really it's the only barrier of entry. It's really hard to keep a BR game afloat if it's not F2P. I understand that this is just a small portion of the whole BFV experience but more people going into a BR game don't care about the other modes (see Black ops). Plus you need the player base to actually get into a match. Just look at how Blackout is right now. It will take over 5 minutes for a match to start. Paying $60 in for only Blackout in retrospect was a huge ripoff especially how little they iterated on it.

I agree with your points here Tempest. It's hard not to compare BR's with each other and there are a lot of nice things about Apex that I wished was in this BR but Firestorm in itself is a great foundation for them to improve on. From what I read and saw in video's, Criterion, who worked on Firestorm, are committed to improving and expanding it. There are still a lot of new war theatres that the base game will go into ie Pacific, Soviets etc that will bring in new weapons, vehicles, cosmetics etc which will no doubt be brought over to Firestorm. They are also already working on improving the looting so I am looking forward to seeing it grow. The differences between Apex and Firestorm make me happy to play both as they really are very different when it comes to setting, TTK, vehicles etc.

Got a solo 1st place win this weekend. Felt good! Only 3 kills total but still a win.

Got a kill early on by sneaking up on a guy as he was starting to release a vehicle. I waited around to camp it just a bit longer but no one else took the bait. Basically just followed the edge of the circle and didn't see anyone else until last circle. With just 4 of us left, I ran in early and went prone in some vegetation beside a red barn with some rocks on my right to cover my side. There were 3 buildings inside the circle. As I was listening and watching, I heard footsteps inside the barn going towards the rear away from middle. I turned to watch my flank and as the guy was coming around the backside corner I lit him up. Right as he died I heard firing across the way from the other 2 buildings and then all of a sudden it was 1 on 1. My building was halfway engulfed in fire by this time so I couldn't hear crap but knew the guy had to be behind or inside one of the 2 houses across the circle. The circle was about to start closing up so I tossed all my grenades towards the building windows and landed 1 each inside the buildings so ran into the middle of the circle. There was a little strand of trees and vegetation so I went prone right in the middle of the circle and looked for some sign of where the last guy might be. Last circle started closing up and destroying buildings and I heard glass break on right building and got the drop on the last remaining guy.

I'm on the Ps4 and there is not a single squad conquest server in Europe. It's not even mentioned as a possible game mode on the main multi-player menu. It's my favorite game mode so it's a bit of a shame.

Is it the same on other platforms?

My understanding is that it was a temporary mode. It may come back in the future. Same as Rush and other modes. There are also new modes being introduced in future releases.

I'm glad they brought back duos. My buddy and I played a few rounds last night. I got my first win...ever. In any BR game. I've played, PUBG, Fortnite, Blackout, Apex, and now BF. The feeling of elation was pretty amazing.

It's back now.

Is there a group of people who play this still? This was one of the games I bought the EA Access for but I have a hard time playing online due to people being less than friendly, or just not doing any objective work. Also, the last time I checked, the coop stuff had no matchmaking.

The co-op stuff has matchmaking now.

I'm still playing (PC), mostly to unlock the weekly content. And yes, people don't usually play objectives (assignments and progression doesn't help) but is still fun to play and servers are full most of the time.

I play regularly on PS4 still.

Agreed, I am not a big fan of the weekly assignments to unlock stuff. Forces me to play modes, weapons etc I do not normally like to play.

Completely agree, I don't like it at all. This week at least is between a specific mode and any other multiplayer so is a bit less frustrating than past weeks. Sadly the new gun is horrendous.
