Congrats on 600 episodes!

For my part if it wasn't for this site (and in particular, Clocky and Hypatia being so open about themselves and their feelings in the original gender thread a few years back) I probably wouldn't have been able to put two and two together and face certain home-truths myself which led me to coming out as trans and starting to transition, which ultimately gave me the confidence to risk leaving a job that was making me utterly miserable and then going back to school to study art & design.

So...gaming aside, on a personal level I can safely say there has been significant change in my life over the past five years or so alone thanks to this little corner of the internet

Congrats on 600! I've only been active on the forum for a year or so, but this podcast has been an important part of my life since somewhere in the upper double digit episodes. I'm glad it's gone this long and hope it keeps on going.

Also i particularly enjoyed the 'behind the scenes' clip that made it into this episode.

Argh, yeah. Any new downloads won’t hear about my road trip plans, but do enjoy.

Good god, every time I think Sean's heart surgery story couldn't creep me the f out, then he has to go and say his heart was on the table next to him!

Congratulations on 600, although as far as I'm concerned it's actually 626; GWJ Radio was far too important for me personally to not count it.

Back in the fall of 2005 I was a bit over a year into my fresh out of college job, finally settling into something resembling stability and normalcy, and I needed something to help me through the tedium of waiting for servers to restart and scripts to run and the like. iTunes had added support for this new "podcasting" thing (what a dumb name, amiright?) a couple months back, and there was a radio show I wished I had the ability to listen to that had just started posting recordings of the show online the next day. So, I subscribed to that, and then decided to scroll through the list of other shows aggregated in their directory looking for a few other shows to fill the time. I picked out one or two things (probably a few 1up and TWiT shows), and then saw "Gamers With Jobs" and thought hey, that describes me, maybe I'll try that too.

Even though there were only three or four episodes at that point, it grabbed me right away — Shawn and Russ had a great rapport, with a mixture of thoughtful discussion, insightful analysis, and witty conversational banter that I was really starting to miss in my life with our college friends leaving town one by one. Maybe a month later Russ mentioned something about a weekly Halo 2 game night which finally drew me to sign up for the forum, and from that point on Gamers With Jobs has been my home on the internet.

The friends Schmoona and I made playing Zombie Skate that year were a central part our social lives for most of our twenties, and became much more than just internet acquaintances to us. Likewise with the friends I made as a member of the GWJ WoW guild, despite the origin of our connections being a shared dark and horrible addiction. And even though in recent years we spend a lot less time playing games with people on the internet, the GWJ forums remain a safe haven where I feel comfortable chatting not just about my favorite hobby but about life in general, and the ongoing and evolving conversations that you folks share with us every week on the podcast only further reinforce the fact that this is a welcoming place full of friends and friends I've yet to meet.

Does that make the early downloads super valuable like stamps and money bills with errors on them?

Congrats! Loved the outtake as well. You should leave it in

Damn! I had the early version but my podcast client deletes a show once it's been listened to... Alas, gone forever! Congratulations on 600 GWJ team, I've been 6-7 years listening to the call and it's a friendly milestone to every week. Thank you!

Congrats guys! Fwiw your podcast has helped me get through hump day for the past 9 years.

I just wanted to add that my own arrogance about bad games in 2006-2007 came out of hubris. At the time I was snapping necks and writing checks for Microsoft’s indie game studio. We had some big wins under our belts and I saw smashing bad games on the internet as just a way to uphold quality.

Then I switched over to the Games for Windows Live project in 2010 and whoa boy did I get punished as a boy (my new favorite phrase from the Terror AMC show).

What sucked the most is it wasn’t the project team’s fault - if anything we moved heaven and earth to try and compete against Steam. But it was too little too late and pretty much the project died due to bad corporate management.

I understand maybe it's personal stuff you don't want broadcast, I feel a bit embarrassed for having listened now that i know it wasn't intentional, but it was cool to hear a bit of the relaxed 'we're not live' atmosphere that happens between the on-air segments. A good 600th episode treat.

Yeah, I think I lucked out and get the extra-valuable version of the CC.

I don't remember at this point when I started to listen, but there was a long gap between me starting with the podcast and joining the forum (in 2012). At this point the CC is so embedded in my life that I feel almost anxious when I don't have it on my ipod for my Wednesday morning commute.

Edit: PS, I love listening to this show because it just sounds like hanging out with my friends. You're welcome, Sean.

What an amazing episode. Thanks folks!

I’m looking forward to listening to 50s Sean’s and 60s Julian’s opinions. Hopefully it’ll be a lot of ‘get off my lawn’.

Shawn, good luck with your new endeavors, whatever they turn out to be.

Bless you all and thank you for the little slice of happiness you bring to my and I’m sure many others’ lives each week.

Does anyone have a link to the Switch-Bed-Hookup-thing?

Listening to GWJ has been my Wednesday morning ritual for almost ten years now and it's a big part of how I connect with my primary hobby. Thanks so much for getting in those chairs each Saturday!

You know why you lot are less punchy now?

Less gin = less punchy.

I used to hear ice cubes clinking on the podcast all the time. Not so much now. I guess the Corona King died and the crown passed onto the Game King?

So I'm only 5 years into these shenanigans, but this is my most consistent online thing in that time. The forums have been so awesome and I am greatly how it has spread into real world interactions.

Sands still needs to show up to game night again!

I'm looking forward to episode 1200 when they come full circle and are back to being viciously punchy with that "I don't give a Certis is awesome" attitude common to geezers.

I'm feeling _all_ the love now. When Certis got a little misty there at the end... oh boy. That stuff stretched across space and time and messed with my glottis and lacrimal glands something fierce.

Big love to all of y'all from the timezone that dare not speak its UTC offset.

I honestly had to turn it off at that point as I was driving.

This is the one I got (link here), which other folks also picked up as well. It has an incredibly strong hold and is difficult to bend, but flexible enough to do so pretty freely when held firmly (a good thing). Some claim the arm asked them 'bro do u even lift?'

Congratulations on 600 episodes. I've been trying to figure out when I started listing. I know how I started listening just not when.

The how is: Tycho in Penny Arcade recommended reading Tom Chick at Crispy Gamer, I started reading Crispy Gamer, discovered Troy Goodfellow there. Started reading Flash Of SteEl. Listened to Three Moves Ahead with the original Troy, Tom, Bruce (Geryk) and Julian line-up. Followed the (White) Rabbit over to GWJ been listening ever since.

Can anyone date that?

Congrats on 600! I'm not very active, but I've listened every week for 10 years now. 10 years you guys have been a part of my life. Thaaaaaat's really weird. I'm not sure if it's weirder for you or me.

Over the years, I've noticed you guys have let go of the reigns more and more. You still have the tried and true formula to the show, but it's clear that you're a group of friends just getting together to chat and have fun, and less about delivering gaming-related content. I consider that a very good thing.

Here's to 600 more!

Gratz on 600! I think I started listening around 2011? I don't travel quite as much as I used to but those podcasts have definitely gotten me through some long, boring drives over the years.

This was such a great episode! :')

I just needed to shake the dust off of my account here and say Congratulations! That was a great episode!

I've been listening since early '07, and fondly remember right clicking to "save file as..." from the old rabbitcave server Still jealous of every Rabbitcon, because it feels like we're all good friends that just haven't met yet.

Seriously, thanks for building this community and keeping it well tended. Though I don't post much anymore, I'm still around almost every day.

Congrats on 600 guys and congrats to Mr. Downin on his wedding!

Congrats on the 600th episode! I've been listening on and off for a few years now (and used to be vaguely active in the forums).

The line that I identified with the most was Rabbit's comment about having too much crap and having to get rid of it. I'm in the same boat.

Congratulations on the 600th episode! I really love everything you're doing and look forward to the podcast every week! Here's to the next 600!

Congrats on 600. I really enjoyed the episode. I seem to be of a similar age of the hosts so I could identify with a lot of the sentiments of looking back 12 years ago.
