a much earlier release date than i would have expected but i'm excited for it
TIME TO PANIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is the time before every expansion when I realize there's still a ton of stuff I still want to do before the next one drops. This is also the time I vow to play one and only one toon for the duration of the expansion ...
oh, who am I kidding. I am Enix, and I am an altoholic.
Anyway, there's actually a release time -- 7 p.m. Oct 26 (a Monday night) in New York, 4 p.m. Oct 26 in LA and midnight CET (which is Paris, if I remember my Eurotimezones correctly) on the 27th.
Look for the first 60s to be rolling around your server sometime Wednesday night or Thursday at the outside. I'm aiming for two weeks.
so like, realistically, the servers will be playable by the 30th? gotta figure out when i want to take my days off
Way earlier than expected. Annoyingly, it seems to collide with a likely Naxx release time. I cant imagine they will release Naxx right after Shadowlands releases. Had kinda hoped to "finish" Classic in time for Shadowlands.

Spoken like someone who has been through a few of these!
If past is prologue, here's my plan:
Monday night -- Oh, SL is out? What's on Netflix?
Tuesday night -- let's make sure the addons work! Log in, eh the servers are down.
Wed night -- time to update all the addons again. Ugh, the lag in the cap cities. Whoops, servers down. Screw this, anything on Netflix I should watch before it expires at month's end?
Thurs night -- log on, see a bunch of lvl 60s running around, update addons again, watch Netflix again
Fri night -- log on, update addons, do some BFA stuff to miss the crowds, go to bed early because it has been a long damn week
Saturday -- weekend! time to get serious about this SL stuff
Sounds about right to me. Good thing halloween is cancelled this year (at least in my area it had better be)

Only Warlods of Draenor was really like that. With gamebreaking bugs that lasted for days. Due to some very broken use of phasing, as well as a brilliantly designed Quest Tower of Doom at the very start of the Horde leveling zone, funneling all players into a tiny area with multiple floors, which the servers surprisingly couldn't handle. Despite having two starting zones.
Pandaria had issues for a few hours. With a single starting zone and a fairly badly designed quest at the very beginning of entering Pandaria, that likely didn't help with the lag (shooting at stuff from the airship).
TBC had issues, as their first expansion before they learned their lesson about how to funnel people into a new expansion.
All the other ones worked reasonably well from day one tbh.
I guess Shadowlands will be the first expansion since Pandaria to have everyone start in the same zone. Still, unless they do a complete WoD design error, I doubt it will cause any issues.
I just wish they would start releasing games on thursday or fridays instead :/
Usually the only problems I have had with the last few expansions is the weekend after release. Even when you can get on, the lag is atrocious and you will probably get kicked.

Pandaria was as well. The first full day was a complete loss.
Not sure I understand the reasoning for this. Population boost I guess but the only other benefit that is actually for players is getting BFA pathfinder done for flying when the expansion launches.
SO it's sounds like pre-patch is set for the 29th then?
I am so happy with the rep boost again! Rep farming in Najatar without a flying mount is horrible.
