WoW: Battle for Azeroth (8.1.5 is out)

I haven’t picked up the fishing pole yet. Does it go away with BFA/pre-patch? Specifically, do I need to get it before BFA?

I don't know. i wanted to get it just in case because it is an artifact an i was worried the prepatch would wipe it out or you wouldn't be able to use the special abilities if you didn't already have them. It took be probably 4 or 5 hours of work total, one night ot get the pole and a second to get all the traits i wanted and i didn't even know you can apparently buy some of the rare fish lured on the auction house so you can speed it up that way. I did buy the special "rare lured spawn twice as often" lures from the weird floating island fish guy though.

Best I can tell, the Legion artifact fishing pole will be sticking around for BfA. But I'm a little fuzzy on the details (i.e., whether you can add AP to it).

I do know that the "teleport to nearest fishing node" is going away, but the remora form and the water walking are staying

Can you still earn it in BFA or is it now or never?

the only actual blizzard comment on it is this from november:

What's happening to the Underlight Angler?

The current plans is to carry it forward but we'll see how it unfolds.

so i think the answer to your question is "probably, but who really knows"

I haven't checked on the beta server to see if it's acquirable and I can't find anyone who has said one way or another

oh i found this:

The Fishing Artifact, Underlight Angler, was previously also shown as disabled. However, build 26812 has fixed it! You can continue earning Artifact Power for your fishing weapon in BfA. It is currently unknown if you will be able to get Artifact Power from BfA content, though.

Found it here on wowhead

Official word from Blizzard: 8.0 patch drops Tuesday. Details

One little wrinkle: Both sides get to do the Burning of Teldrassil, which will be rolled out over the next month. However, according to Wowhead: "The Battle for Lordaeron, the Alliance's retaliation for Teldrassil, is only available to players who purchase Battle for Azeroth. Those who purchase BFA can access this content one week before the launch of BFA."

So much for holding onto my cash until BfA Eve.

If it’s the same Lordaeron content that’s in the beta, you’re not missing anything by waiting until launch. You could do that mission in one night easy so I wouldn’t worry about being too far behind. Unless of course you’re one of those people who needs to be on the bleeding edge or are in a raiding guild where leveling as quickly as possible is expected.

My brief thoughts on the Lordaeron content:

Spoiler:

The Alliance instance feels very much like an updated version of the Broken Shores invasion. Blow up stuff, get pushed back, help the main characters save the day. Horde is slightly more interesting as you’re on the defensive trying to fight your way out. Since they weren’t showing actual cutscenes, it will still be interesting to see the full story beats.

Some interesting 8.0 news: You can use your Wakening Essences to buy specific legendary items. As opposed to the current method, which involves giving 1,000 WEs to a vendor and crossing your fingers. That'll help get some good gear to get you through the early days (or hours for some of you no-lifers) of BfA.

On a related note: Does anyone know how powerful your toons will be after the patch as opposed to now?

On one hand, our artifact weapons will be de-activated, more or less. (They'll keep their iLvl but lose all the rest, right?) On the other, I think artifact traits will be rolled into base stats. On the third hand, we all have to respec (new talent trees). And on the fourth hand, lots of attacks will be put on the GCD. Oh, and there's a stat squish.

Anyone on beta have a sense of power now vs. what's coming up?

I wasn't able to play anything not BFA and lower than level 110. So TBH a lot of classes felt empowered and fun. I just hope that holds for pre 110 content.
Also, as expected, leveling from 110-120 takes quite a while. I think one of my characters made it to 112 but most never got to 111. Now I wasn't playing non stop but I did put 1-2 hours into each.

Rogues, Hunters, Paladins, Warlocks, Priests, Death Knights and Demon Hunters flew through leveling BfA content.
Warriors, Druids, Shaman stumbled more but were quite capable.
Monks and Mages well the monk clicked with me more but the mage just didn't click with me much at all.

I believe the new Communities features rolls out on Tuesday. If so, I’ll set up a Community for the WoW GWJ diaspora and post the info here.

Do we know anything about the functionality?

I know it's integrated with the guild system somehow. At least they've said "most players will already be in a community when the feature goes live: their guild." I'm not sure if that means we can expand the existing guild to include other GWJers or if we need a new community for that. But it should mean that existing guild leaders can get a good look at the features and interface right away.

Streamers are saying its like a stripped down Discord within WoW.

Reap, thanks for doing that.

We have a lot of GWJ folks spread out among multiple guilds on multiple servers, and in both factions. Might as well make it easier to connect us all.

It didn't occur to me before: do we know whether the new communities will allow both factions in the same community?

Doesn't look like it. According to the preview:

Communities you create are open to same-faction characters from any realm within your region.

There are also Blizzard Groups, which is more general:

Blizzard Groups allow you to connect with cross-game friends and other players even beyond World of Warcraft via the Blizzard Battle.net desktop app; Communities are specific to the character you’re creating the community with and are great for bringing together in-game friends.

Which we have a GWJ community setup already. It also has a WoW channel.

Good to know. If Reap sets up something on the Ally side, one of you filthy Hordies will have to figure out something on your own.

So, I came back in to WoW for a bit, burnt out on GW2 and I have a question. I understand that artifact weapons will be going away, but do we have a solid replacement yet for the weapon itself? Will the necklace take place of it, or will we be going back to how weapons normally worked? Is there a different option? I have been looking around for an answer but I don't know if I can still use my weapon until BFA drops. Will we even be able to use the weapon after patch, or do we have to find an alternative? Thanks.

In BfA you get a necklace that will act like ur weapon in Legion. You will wear this the whole xpac and upgrade it. As far as weapons go, Your current Artifact will be used until you find a better higher ilvl weapon to replace it. After today it will all its power/skills and just become a normal weapon with high ilvl depending on ur relics.

So basically weapons will revert back to the old ways where you will need to find new ones.

Thank you very much. Everywhere I looked kinda glossed over that last part, so I wasn't sure if we still even had the weapon.

I'm curious what will happen with my rogue when i get her up to Legion content. So much of the legion content is based around rewarding and awarding artifact power.

I am not sure either.

I have heard that it will function like a regular weapon except that relics will increase the ilvl with no artifact traits.

Some forum posters have suggested that it may be better to level up heirloom weapons (to 3/3 upgrades) as they will steadily increase your power with your level.

That is what will happen to the weapons for new toons.

"All Artifact Traits have been disabled, including those from the Netherlight Crucible and Concordance of the Legionfall. Relics will not longer provide any traits, but will continue to give you weapon item level."

Supposedly a lot/all of the artifact traits are being baked into character traits and builds. Most of the artifact traits were modifiers anyway, so it should be easy enough to do. The main artifact attack (or heal, depending) is supposed to show up somewhere in 8.0.1. On my ret paladin, for instance, Wake of Ashes (a frontal cone AOE) was the attack I got when I was wielding Ashbringer. In the new patch, it's a lvl 60 talent choice.

Anyhoo, the patch might be live now. I was downloading it about an hour ago right before I headed into work. (Yes, I'm working tonight. Sucks to be me, huh.)

Here's the MMO Champion roundup of all the patch goodness (or badness, if you're so inclined). It looks like Icy Veins is being hammered, so be patient.

Just read...

"Every toon has 1000 waking essence in their weekly chest today. EVERY toon, even if you have never done a mythic or mythic+."

These are used for the legendary upgrades or new legendary. So check your stash in class hall even if you don't run mythic+. I confirmed this as well since I had not run a Mythic+ last week.

This also applies to the new pvp currency (not sure of the amount).

I assume you have to be high enough level to have a class hall chest ;P

Ugh patch day blues
