WoW: Battle for Azeroth (now rockin' 8.3)

Oh so much angst and whinning about the beevent.

I find myself coming to Stormsong for the rep and staying for the QQ.

Pro tip: DMF runs through 3 a.m. Sunday. That extra 10 percent rep buff means you've got to grind that many fewer jellies. If you miss out, save your jellies for next month. Once I get the goggles, yeah, it's a whole new ballgame. Until then, it's not worth flying laps around the zone unless you're interested in farming ores and herbs, too.

Speaking of rep grinds, make sure you're exalted with Voldunai or the Rustbolt Resistance: 8.3 will bring a couple of new playable races -- Vulpera (Horde) and Mechagnomes (Alliance).

In substantially more important news, Dire Maul gets released next week.

Bee tip: Ground Clutter = 1

Saved my sanity until I got the goggles.

and having gotten the goggles. there are SO MANY MORE gather spots than I thought there were using my almost-40 eyes to find them, and as soon as one despawns because the was-gathered timer a new one pops up nearby.

Oh and there are some in the sides of trees i had no clue about

I'm saving my sanity by doing the Honeysmasher each day and, if it pops in 10-15 minutes, doing the event and hoping the rep item drops. (It didn't last night - grrrr.)

I'm saving my endless laps around Stormsong for when I get the goggles.

I'm still not certain whether the rep quest items are once and done like the pet battle items, or once per week

AFAIK the Honeysmasher is lootable once daily (as opposed to multiple times daily -- it's definitely more than once a week). His death is worth 500 rep once per day, plus any thin/rich/royal jellies he drops.

Also AFAIK, the rep items dropped by the rares during the Honeyback Harvester (aka the BEE-vents) are weekly items, according to Wowhead. (This I didn't know until I looked it up.)

Looks like there are six different rares. If you get lucky on which rares show up and how fast you kill stuff, that's 4,500 rep (6 x 750) per week before you factor in any thin/rich/royal jellies that also drop. You can loot the boss box after the bee events as many times as you want to. Some folks report not being able to loot that final honeycomb, but I don't know if it's a bug or a lockout or they didn't show up in time. Anyone know?

Some folks have said that there is some kind of participation system (show up late in the waves and you only get a little, show up very late and you get nothing). I think there might be some truth to that.

you can only get the honeycomb at the end once an our, even though the events spawn every 15-20 minutes

I kinda doubt the one-hour lockout based on my own experiences (but anecdote =/= data). I suspect it's closer to 30 mins, if it exists at all. And as MG noted, it appears that your loot is pared down if you try to cheese in there late (i.e. after a boss or two have spawned).

Either way, I've got another 10.5K to revered. Not a grind I'm looking forward to, but I just hit exalted w/ Rustbolt, so that's one less thing on the want-to-do list. Time to farm some achieves before 8.3 drops and I get distracted by that shiny penny.

30 minutes may be accurate. I do know it's not just coming in late. I was in an entire event from the start, the next one to pop after i'd just completed one, and got no honeycomb.

It's weird how there seems to be so little accurate info on how the BEE-vents work. WoW is usually datamined to death, and yet here we go, pulling stuff out of our butts.

That is a bit odd. Although this seems like something that isn't client side, so maybe it's not really open to traditional datamining?

Anyone have any luck with Operation Mech?

I queued for a random group the other night (my first time in), came in right before the first boss (King Gobbamack) and had a helluva time. I asked for a strat and didn't get any (that's on my - gotta read up before you go in), then simply couldn't heal through the ton of damage our group took despite blowing every single holy pal CD I could blow. I couldn't tell if we weren't soaking up the Charged Smash or just standing in Rumble or were merely overwhelmed by several map and relentless packs of troggs.

We wiped twice, I sent my regrets (Y'all need a better healer than my sorry ass) and dropped group.

Is Mech just awful, or was I just unlucky? Is running Op Mech as a holy pal even realistic?

Mechagon is one of their "mini-raids." It is, from my perspective, more about knowing fight mechanics and pulls than it is class or spec.

I did it once early on with a pug, we wiped once and 3/5 of the group instantly threw a tantrum and left the group and i havn't had the nerve to try since.

the wipe was at that same spot, i think it's just a hard row to hoe right there.

Slightly off topic, but BlizzCon is coming up (Fri-Sun), and the rumor mill seems to suggest that (a) we'll get an announcement as to the next WoW expansion, and (b) the next expansion might have something to do with the Lich King.

I don't ever pay enough attention to BlizzCon to know when the expansion announcements come out relative to where we are in the current expansion, but the timing seems to be about right. Assuming two years between expansions (source), we'll be due for the next one sometime in the July-Sept 2020 timeframe.

Damn. So much to do. Gotta get cracking!

PS: Leveling my Horde priest now and I'm OK with the Zuldazar plot line. Seems a little thin (I'm not sure exactly how Zul the Prophet ended up in jail in SW, for instance) but I always like to see an expansion from the Horde side.

I'm also OK leveling with Disc. Things die slow as hell, but I don't seem to be in any real danger of dying. Flight helps. That said, I'm nowhere near Nazj.

I believe he just shows up and presents himself for capture.

Mechagon is basically just a longer dungeon, ultimately. When it first launched, it was hitting a bit harder (not a lot mind you, but a bit) than other Mythic dungeons were, but they also then immediately raised the caps on like WQ/Emissary/Dungeon gear too.

If you all were dying on the Trogg boss, my guess would be either standing brown circles (the stuff from the ceiling), not ALL standing in blue circles (the shared damage smash), OR (and this is something I don't see mentioned as much), the DoT effect from the smash that you remove by running to the Tesla Coils and the Sawblade Robot... or some combo of not enough people doing that and being overwhelmed by adds (activating the coils is what kills the adds, for all intents and purposes, that is a single target fight).

I've run it more times than I can count, including 5 Hard Mode runs to get the King's special mount (which, hilariously, makes you "immune" to the Aerial Oppression Unit's attacks when in the world on the island flying)… and can tank it and heal it... and yeah, it's one of those "This is either going be super smooth or a complete sh*tshow" kind of instances, though I suspect it'll be a lot easier with 8.3 on Heroic and with even higher gear.

Also, heck the last boss on Hard Mode, as my guild's "sequence caller" for the Simon Says part of the fight, I hate that fight with a passion. XD

The new expansion: Shadowlands, starring Sylvanus, who something something Lich King. I'm just glancing at stuff as trick-r-treaters pound on my door. (Yes, I know it's Friday. Long story, that.)

Anyhoo, some highlights:

* New world isn't a world - it's death or the afterlife or whatever. Not a physical place exactly. 5 zones, plus dungeons and raids.
* The level squish is real. Max is 60; current 120s start at 50.
* Leveling can happen in any expansion (ie, you could start the WoLK expansion at lvl 11 and level through to 50). First, tho, new toons get a new 1-10 experience.
* Legendary weapons are back!
* You join one of four covenants, which are associated with four of the new zones. Looks like they're cross-faction?
* There's something called an infinite dungeon, which you can solo or group for. Apparently it changes as you keep doing it.
* Death Knights for all classes, including the Allied races and the pandas.

MMO-Champ and Wowhead have lots of notes on all of today's Blizzcon panels, but I haven't found anything coherent. No release date yet; I'm guessing July/Aug/Sept sometime based on what I posted earlier.

Here's the official WoW info.

Update: The official cinematic. Sylvanus, daaaaaaaaamn.

They are saying all the right things. But then, they kinda were back at BFA announcement too.

Better alt-experience. Focus on class identity over spec identity. More player agency, less RNG in itemization, less threadmill grind.

Seems like they are making a hybrid wrath and cataclysm expansion.

I'm cautiously optimistic here. I found BFA pretty dull and uninspired; of all the xpacs, BFA is the one that's felt most like "Vanilla all over again". This one at least has an original premise.

This is huge for me:
https://www.wowhead.com/news=296012....

If I do nothing else, I will spend countless hours leveling alts in this expansion because of the above.
1. Allied races can be DK's
2. DK's and DH's new ones start at level 1
3. New optional starting area for 1-10
4. Level 10-50 in just one or any combination of expansion zones: newbies running around Broken Isles, Pandaria or BFA, etc.
5. Things like frost shock, paladin auras and mind blast are stock skills not locked behind talents
6. Level cap squish to 60

Blizzard always does, and I always get excited about it and keep playing.

I'm with Crowbar - as much as I like Boralus, BfA is ... OK. I like bits and pieces of it, but it feels very much like Legion 2.0 to me - same game play for the most part, just with a different story.

If you need something to do while you're waiting for SL, try playing the other faction. I'm enjoying my tour through the Horde zones and have just started raising my baby direhorn.

Talk about Blizzard loving the Horde and not the Alliance - the direhorn is a blissfully solo experience, while that damn bee mount is a sh!tshow of QQ over who started the bee-vent and why did you start the bee-vent and you suck and no you suck. At least Barrens chat was funny sometimes.

That is one thing I am excited about Shadowlands is that it will now be easier to level Horde alts for me.
The question is, should I try and unlock more allied races now, or see if it will be easier to have it part of the alt leveling experience in Shadowlands?
Oh and please fix shaman... Perhaps having frost shock available to all specs will help.

fangblackbone wrote:

Why not? They're not challenging - just grindy. (And fun and interesting - if you're not doing the quests and reading the quest text, you're missing out on a lot of the charm of the game.)

I'm taking no chances on the new level changes. I figure there will be all sorts of weirdness at first until people play through and realize stuff is broken. There's seven expansions worth of crap that need to be re-tuned. Blizzard's bound to miss a few things.

Given all of the Allied races for BfA require exalted with BfA, I'd strongly recommend doing them now versus later. Depending on faction, they're not too terribly hard. For Horde, it's literally just the leveling factions for Vulpera and Zandalari, then the War Campaign Faction (Honorbound), a good chunk of the progress comes just from leveling.

For Alliance, while two are the "same" with one being Proudmoore and the other being the 7th Legion, the last is Mechagon exalted, and that is not a fast grind (or really grindable beyond a certain amount each day) so if you don't have that, I'd recommend getting on doing that daily now.

But, on the other hand, what if the world quests are unlocked right away with the level squish? It would be awesome to plow around BFA @level 10 doing quests and world quests (for xp and faction) at the same time.

Did they finally make rep server or account wide? Weren't they talking about that?

side note: I don't really care about Kul Tiran, and Zandalari. I already have Void Elf, Lightforged, Maghar Orc, and Nightbourne. I really want vulpera, and dark iron dwarf with a smidge of interest in mechgnomes.

I was wondering about rep too, and I dont think they mentioned it. Which is weird, because rep grind on multiple characters is pretty much the worst aspect of alts.
