WoW: Battle for Azeroth (8.3)

Can we get a roll call of who is on Alliance side and what character names are? I'd like to possibly make a list of who is where or do we have that already? Is that what the Community thing is supposed to be for?

I know I have some of you as friends on Battlenet but I know I'm missing a lot as well.

What Cube said: Grind out the Anglers rep and buy it for gold. If you don't get TW badges (and that's a great suggestion I hadn't thought of), you can always do the Anglers dailies. They're a bit out of the way these days but they aren't too bad consisdering.

If you want the Draenor version, you'll be fishing until the next expansion drops.

Plus if you get enough Anglers rep, you can also get the fishing raft. That's waaaaaay cooler than a bug you can ride.

P.S. TW tokens drop on all TW weeks regardless of difficulty. If you want to shortcut things a bit, the first TW instance you run drops a quest for 500 tokens. (Each run nets 30 or so, I think.)

What about the new ship mount you can get for buying a 6 month sub? Does that speed through/on top of water?

I play mainly horde.. But I got a Prot Pally 120 ilvl327 - Medbubhearth

Up to 323 ilevel doing Arathi this weekend! My 370 item was the Warglaive which is awesome. I also got a couple of 350 (trinket and ring) drops in LFR so that really helped. I just need two more (Chest and Cloak) of the Legion pieces to complete my set. I love the look of that armor.

Am I ready to run Mythics at 323?

Short answer is yes, but I’d get to 325 just because it seems to be mental threshold for a lot of people, then start your own group, advertise it as a ‘chill group’ and you should fill up and be on your way pretty quick.

There’s plenty of people wanting to do these but are freaked out by some of the silly requirements and demands in the listings.

Through, on top, under, and flying above. I was rather surprised.

With the Timewalking commendations, it's trivial.

You need 7k badges(or around 6400 for a human) on your account for this(https://www.wowhead.com/item=143946/... is BoA, so alts also count towards that total), and a MoP timewalking weekend.

Just remember to run the TW dungeons on everything above panda level, and you'll have the badges pretty quick.

If you have all of the classes above the MoP level range, you can do this in one go by getting all the commendations then sending them to a single character to max out (don't forget to get the rep boost at revered!). I've actually done this several TWings in a row now to get mounts.

EDIT: To note, you can do this with just the commendations from doing the ONE Timewalking that gives you the quest for your first during the TWing week on each character.

Oh, I forgot about the raft! I think I hit revered with Anglers right before the new expansion dropped and just didn't go back. I need to get that raft as it is way cooler!

I do love that fishing raft, although i mostly forgo it in favor of the Legion Murlock Skeleton Fishing Pole that just lets you walk on water, and turn into a "shark" that definitely is a remora.

It's also cata TW week, so make sure you run one on everyone that can do it if you need the badges!

So it's just the Cataclysm vendor up this week, right? We have to wait until *checks calendar* October 16 for the Pandaria rewards to come available?

Correct. Only corresponding vendor up during that TW event.

As someone who really only got into WOW at the end of Legion, I kind of am not sure what you guys are even talking about! =)

I’ll look up some guides to explain this Timewalking business, I’ve seen it in the launcher splash page but don’t know anything about it. More time on Wowhead I guess!

And I also need to go back to finish the super duper fishing pole in Legion sometime, started on it but have a long ways to go. Maybe after I finish leveling and gearing my hunter. And my Druid.

Man, no wonder I don’t have time for any other games.....

Timewalking is a special event where they use the level-scaling tech to let you go back and do dungeons from previous expansions without the effects of being massively over-leveled. This week there's a special queue for Cataclysm expansion dungeons. Anyone who is too high a level to do them normally can join a special queue where they will be scaled down to level 85.* A portion of the loot from the dungeon will be scaled up to the character's normal level. In addition to the gear drops, you can also get special currency that will let you buy cosmetic items and such from that expansion.

I'm kind of keen to check it out this expansion. In Warlords I had a lot of fun with the Timewalking events. In Legion the scaling was off; it adjusted your level just fine, but with an Artifact and two Legendary items everyone still massively out-geared the timewalking dungeons...

*Maybe you get scaled to level 90. I'm not entirely sure on the exact number now that Cataclysm and Pandaria are run in parallel.

I'm tempted to reup my account, but not purchase the xpac yet.

I want to level up a new warrior, alliance side. But since I'm in the leveling process, and not that many hours available to play per week, I don't feel like dropping 65$ Cad right away.

Is the leveling smoother now ?

Manach wrote:

I think it is. It's not the fastest it's ever been, but I'd say it is smooth. The zones largely scale to your level now so you don't have to worry about out-leveling the storylines you're enjoying, and if you're not enjoying something there are plenty of other zones to choose from. I was leveling a Worgen Warrior before BFA hit and I'm keen to get back to him.

You might want to wait for the next patch 8.1
They are reintroducing BFA's version of invasions. Invasions were apparently a great way to level alts and a lot of fun.

That’s only for when he hits 110. Starting fresh may take him a bit.

Speaking of Timewalking ... are they, like, hard all of a sudden? As in much harder than TW during Legion?

I got dropped into End Time as a healer and quit after two failed trash pulls. (The DK tank got smashed, and there was no way in hell I was going to be able to outheal the damage he was taking; I'm not sure he was helping much but still.) Thirty minutes later I reque-ed and ... End Time again. Gah! It was still rough, but the tank and DPS were pretty good and we squeezed through.

I saw that Blizzard rolled out a hot-fix nerf of End Time sometime yesterday -- that might have been the difference between failure and success in my case. Anyone have any intel on some of the other instances?

Edit: Dungeon is End Time, though last night it sure felt like end times.

I haven't dug into it yet specifically for that reason. It appears there are tuning issues. I'll probably start getting my 5 now that there have been some hotfixes.

Enix wrote:

I haven't done BFA Timewalking yet myself, but they were particularly easy in Legion. In Legion you were scaled down to 70/80/85/90, but you were a 70/80/85/90 with two Legendary items and an Artifact weapon. In BFA one's gear is more in line with what it would have been in the older expansions' endgame dungeons.

That reminds me... when Timewalking launched it was worth it to put on my Pandaria legendary cloak. Since it was a higher ilevel than the BC/Wrath/Cata levels it would match my Warlords gear after scaling. I wonder if it still works that way with the current scaling tech. I imagine that would be a lot more abusable now that I could bring 4 legendary items in...

I wasn't talking about Island Expeditions or Warfronts.
Ion mentioned that there were new faction Incursions that will be good to level alts.

Only in the BfA zones I assume.

They'd better not! I will blow a gasket...

I ran Grim Batol last night. It wasn't too bad, but we had several deaths. The tank who kept DC'ing was worse, but eventually we got a replacement. It was definitely harder than a BfA Heroic, and it certainly reminded me of running the dungeon at the beginning of Cata.

Blizz changed the ilvl scaling during the BfA pre-patch and it increased the difficulty quite a bit through reduced tank threat and decreased tank self-healing.

A couple of the more “leet” DPS in my guild actively argued with me (tank) and the healer about using CC.

We wiped on one of the last pulls in the stupid air elemental dungeon because they couldn’t out DPS several of the casters.

Thanks for confirming what I suspected. Holding threat wasn't really the issue -- the DPSers in my groups the other night weren't all that leet -- but tank self-healing definitely was. I'd blink and the tank's health would go from 90 percent to 40 or lower, and I wasn't sure how much he was trying (or able) to help.

On the flip side, if TW dungeons are harder than BfA heroics as Aristophan says, maybe I'll try a few.

well i don;t tank or heal other than some leveling experience as a bear, so grain of salt, but my understanding is that tank self healing is essentially 0 new.

Is this only in the TW dungeons or something? I can switch to tank spec on my DH and pretty much self-heal through any elite I've come across yet. It takes 2 days to kill anything but I can keep myself pretty much topped off and/or utilize cooldowns sufficiently to stay alive.
