WoW: Battle for Azeroth (now out!)

Hunter, Prot Pally and Lock are all fun.

Pally and Hunter legion class hall quests were pretty bland though. Lock seemed kinda cool from what I saw.

My hunter main heart says recommend hunter, but i also feel like if you aren't already on the hunter train at this point you probably have a reason, so i won't.

I am a diehard mage main, but one of my 'latest' characters I finally got to 110 is hunter, and it is easily on of my favorites.
Though one reason I like hunter (BM) is the simplicity. I prefer if my alts are somewhat easy to jump into after a long break. Haven't really tried anything other than BM, I want my hunter to have a pet, anything else would be blasphemy.
Liking Demon Hunter a lot for the same reason + wings, they are nearly mage-like! Actually, just give all classes portal spells and some sort of slow fall already.

Tried to get into warlock multiple times - I mean, it's a mage with pets?! - but I just cant. I think I have managed to pick their worst builds every time I tried though.

The wings are just too valuable. They need to have a transmog or something for the cloak that gives wing abilities. Or maybe it is a property of the heart of Azeroth or all the cape slot heirlooms.
There is countless hours of fun jumping off the cliffs of Highmountain and like areas.
Parts of Val Sharah were like zip lining through the forest when gliding through the giant trees.

Yeah, now that I think about it. Give mages those wings in exchange for allowing others to have portal spells.

Affliction is so super easy. Demonology in the 50's is growing on me. Affliction's rotation is really straightforward but it starts getting more complex at that point. Demonology's rotation is pretty flat up to that point and key talents start to boost that spec so that it can be played simply. I mean you can just call dreadstalkers, empower demon and shadow bolt until dead. You don't even have to bother with doom or hand of guldan. (for questing)

Played demonology (because, pets!) 100-110 and found it quite bad. Switched to affliction at 110, and it was a lot better, but a bit too late for me at that point. It is years since I played 1-70 or so, not sure what played as back then.
With a mage main I somewhat want to use specs that are not just mage with another color on the fireballs though, so that tends to exclude some possible builds.

I have had a warlock alt for a long time and always enjoyed dabbling in it but in Legion I just wasn't feeling it. I got him to 110 via invasions, done the mount and class campaigns, dicked around with a little LFR for a while then parked him. Just didn't seem fun this time around

Aff seemed stupid boring, and that's coming from someone who mains a BM hunter!

Having a lot of fun with destro lock and you can really bring the AOE pain in dungeons which is cool. FWIW they are making a lot of changes to the class in BFA, with demo seeming like it will be a true minion master build and affliction getting some cool non-dot spells.

As per a failed dungeon run yesterday, Cata dungeons are the hardest.
We had people bailing out after a few deaths and then 3 more players rotated out after 2 more failed attempts before I left.

The encounter was this one where 2 boss underlings were channeling a beam at something and you had to stand in the beam to prevent them from getting 100(?) stacks. Of course standing in the beams earned you stacks so you had to rotate out before you got to 75(?) stacks or you were turned into a demon and charmed to fight your party (indefinitely?)

It seems like a huge jump in dungeon mechanic complexity. My 85 DK cried in a corner and started queuing for Pandaria dungeons ;P

Corla in Blackrock Caverns!

She was a group killer back in the Cata days. Glad to see she's still up to her old tricks.

If anyone's running the old Cata dungeons during Timewalking Weeks, you'll remember that there are quite a few mechanics you can't just faceroll through. Part of the reason the current normal and heroic instances are so easy is because of all the QQing in Cata. Folks want it hard until it's hard and then they don't.

Most of the difficulty from Timewalking (not just Cata's) comes from assuming it'll be like a daily heroic when you're gear-scaled in TWing. Always funny to see a DPS decide I'm not pulling fast enough or a tank thinking he can just grab all the trash between the start and the first boss and totally wiping out.

FWIW I want a Pearlfin Allied race.
I mean they have to eventually be thinking of everyone as allied race possibilities.
We are battling to save the planet, right?
Fen Creeper race would be cool too!

Kul'Tiran Cat form.

Ok, that is cool... but I dunno if it's enough to drag me away from my Night Elf Vanish and Mage Tower space kitty.

Ok, that may be enough to make me use my level token an allied druid.

I wonder if there will be other skin options like in legion. My main gripe about druids has always been limited appearance options as compared to every other class.

Hopefully once they figure out how to make your forms from Legion carry forward (the way they said that during the last round of interviews has me... somewhat concerned), they can just keep adding new forms for new things in there. Would be cool to have forms to match the themes of each raid tier with armor going the same way.

Nononono. Keep your fugly giant shoulderpads off my kitty or cub ;P

Just got a beta invite forBfA

Once upon a time in vanilla I had a buddy and we formed a guild together. Later on she got a job as a GM at Blizzard and I got a 'family and friends pass' = free wow + always in all the alphas etc. In fact I think there used to be a 'family and friends' alpha that was always nigh on unplayable. the pre apha alpha if you like lol

Gravy train ended about 5 years ago when she left but they were the days. Don't miss the betas so much but the freebie sub was sweet.

Same! One of the last who cares in my guild to get one, but that's totally ok. Time to start tinkering with Vengeance, Guardian, and maybe Blood (and by extension, Havoc, Feral (maybe), and Frost/Unholy) to figure out what I want to play next expansion while providing feedback.

CaptainCrowbar wrote:

Me too!

So far beta is beta. Haven't hit any major bugs, but there's a lot of "Insert Awesome Custscene Here" and things like that.

Wah, I want my golden ticket!

I wish I could hand over mine. I never participate in the betas. Mostly because the main game is already buggy and I wouldn't want to play something that's even more buggy.

Yeah, I keep getting invited early into Blizzard alphas/betas for some reason, and never play them.
Loved playing the WoW betas back when I was super addicted to the game. But now I cant do it. Not going to spend my relatively little WoW time on temporary progress that will be gone again later.

Preliminary thoughts:

Havoc may be a biiiiit overtuned, by the fundamentals are good. I generally hate Colossus Smash style debuff damage windows, but Dark Slash works. It's simple, it's intuitive (compared to figuring out the building style for say Judgment during Legion), and man does it make Chaos Strike pack a wallop.

It's got a lot of good AOE styles going, love Demonic just as I do on live... but Single Target feels... really lacking. Almost everything talent wise is either AOE enhancement or "make AOE work for Single Target" which feels... weird.

Vengeance is fascinating and if Soul Barrier doesn't get a nerf I will be genuinely surprised. Just Shearing a few times will give you a Soul Barrier to practically double your health. Nothing I've seen from any other class even comes close to that so far (though I'm only like 3 in).

Well, I pulled the trigger and started playing again. I'm level 103 or so and really enjoying the leveling content. The Resto Shaman artifact weapon quest was really cool (if buggy,) and everything is feeling really fun. I'm looking forward to the next zone.

Haven't been able to put my finger on exactly why, but balance feels... off.

Holy and ret pal don't seem to have changed much.

Enjoyed Shrine of Storms, could be pretty nuts on M+.

Think I'm at ~10 bug reports from about 2 hours of beta. Mostly minor stuff like text and audio lines not matching or typos in tooltips.

I want to play this with a co worker when it launches. They plan on playing a void elf. I decided to just jump in with a goal of also unlocking a void elf. I have not played for a couple (few?) years.

I boosted to 110 as a monk (a class I've never played) on a server I've never been on (a pvp server to boot).

Found out some story progress in the faction zone is follower locked and now I have to figure that at as well.

I am either an idiot or super hard core.

I don't know if it is still in effect but there was mention of decent faction rep rewards from battlegrounds.
Otherwise you are looking at ~20 days to unlock void elves. (with the bonus of unlocking lightforge as well since most activities reward both factions)

PvP brawls but I don't know if those are for factions outside of the vanilla ones. I think there's a schedule somewhere on the main site that shows whatever is upcoming.

Warsong Gulch was giving 100 Outriders rep per flag cap + another 100 for a win...cap was increased from 3 to 10 for the brawl so it was pretty easy to gain rep that week because no one played defense.

I was going to boost a character but I feel like if I get everything at once, it may be too overwhelming. I'm enjoying leveling, hit 59 last night on my Affliction lock. He's a blast to play so far and learning as I go
