World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth (due out Aug. 14, 2018)

Pages

Time for a new expansion and a new thread. Have at it!

Today's news: The release date! Aug. 14, 2018.

The 8.0 patch with all the class changes and the pre-launch events will drop ... sometime before that. Usually about a month out.

That's really not far away at all. Trying to juggle time away from the game vs finishing up the things I really want to do with alts at the moment.

Time to clear out my bank of all the soon-to-be worthless materials. I've got like 500 bloods I need to get rid of.

Is there any new info on Expeditions and Warfronts? (level requirements?, are they going to follow the same queueing for tank, dps, healer?)

edit: Island Expeditions will unlock via the War Campaign and this will be account-wide. You can then do Island Expeditions on alts as you level.

Unless they just announced a change and i missed it... this will never change.

I dont think expeditions need a tank/dps/healer structure, think they are more like scenarios in that regard. Might only be 3 people as well IIRC

Dunno bout warfronts, they really havent let a great deal on about those yet.

Yeah, the Island Expeditions seem to be any comp welcome at this point.

I'm pretty sure the expeditions are 3 people. At least that's what they looked like in the Blizzcon presentation, i havn't seen them in alpha.

When do yall think the pre-patch events will start kicking off? I'm excited to progress the story a little in silithus

Scenarios since Pandaria have been three people regardless of spec. It seems to work pretty well (except when morans run off and leave you behind; I CAN'T SOLO THIS sh*t IN HEALER GEAR DUMASS jfc).

Early/mid July is my guess. We usually get a month or so of pre-expansion events, right? I should know by now. This will be my, what, seventh expansion? Good lord.

July feels right, but honestly all the pre-release events are a blur to me. I do think fondly back on the time my friends and I accidentally filled quel-thas with a zombie horde that lasted until the next reset

This expansion is tempting me a lot more than the last one did. Anyone have a few words for what I might be in for if I haven't played since WoD?

Well for one thing: Theres a lot more freedom in where you can quest when, and mostly gone is the frustration of being partway through a story or questline and out leveling it.

This is so key because regardless of quest storyline, if you like a zone, with few exceptions you can level in it when you want. And while the LFD does a pretty good job of matching you with like levels, I have done Deadmines at level 40 something with some low 30 somethings with no handicap in xp or loot for them or me.

You can skip Outland completely and level 60-80 in Northrend + dungeons too.

Outland really needs an update. it is painful, I am very much looking forward to going right into northrend with my void elf rouge

The moved up date has convinced me it’s time to boost at least one of my characters to 110. That way I can enjoy end content but also play through areas I didn’t play like Pandaria.

I just got into the plaguelands on my Void Rogue. I forgot how much i love the storylines there, even after the cata revamp.

Pvp updates!

- Prestige will be account wide
- Instead of PvE and PvP servers, War Mode will place anyone who opts into pvp into a separate shard

Wow. War mode is a big change. No more pvp servers.

Did some old world dungeons change, like ragefire chasm or the Naga one in the OG third night elf zone?

I know Ragefire changed a long time ago from its original form. I think it got tweaked with Panda Xpac. Blackfathom Deeps got a tweak in WoD as did Razorfen Kraul and Downs.

Not sure but I think you are talking about Blackfathom Depths. Apparently the stuff that is going on in Darkshore is critical to B4A. So sometime in the next months we are going to see some major changes to that area. I would not be surprise if Blackfathom Depths changes are part of that major event.

Spoiler:

Teldarassil is going to burn and on the eastern kingdoms Lordaeron is going to be destroyed.

So, the question is... having gotten Prestige 2 on my shaman because that Doomhammer was sick (and the Resto weapon was like the only good appearance until the Mage Tower variant... and because my RNG sucked and I didn't get the Hidden one until AFTER I got all the others)... do all of my characters get their Prestige 2 weapon skins now? If so... awesome.

EDIT: I mean, I have all 36 mage towers done, but it would be nice to have some variation.

Thats my understanding. Prestige rank will be just like Overwatch in that you have one overall rank regardless of which character you're playing. Rewards will be shared and the multiple ranks across characters now will be added together for BFA.

Having just gone through those zones, they haven’t changed much since Cata in terms of content, but difficulty has spiked. Instances are now tough again and you can wipe. Unfortunately, the community still sees low instance wipes as a sign of complete incompetence, so be prepared to have missions fall apart if somebody makes an honest mistake.

As per a failed dungeon run yesterday, Cata dungeons are the hardest.
We had people bailing out after a few deaths and then 3 more players rotated out after 2 more failed attempts before I left.

The encounter was this one where 2 boss underlings were channeling a beam at something and you had to stand in the beam to prevent them from getting 100(?) stacks. Of course standing in the beams earned you stacks so you had to rotate out before you got to 75(?) stacks or you were turned into a demon and charmed to fight your party (indefinitely?)

It seems like a huge jump in dungeon mechanic complexity. My 85 DK cried in a corner and started queuing for Pandaria dungeons ;P

Getting rid of pvp serves will be great.
I nearly cant play high lvl alliance chars on my server since it is 90% horde or something. While I cant take my horde characters back to older content either, since the battlegroup is alliance dominated.

Well, I haven't missed an expansion yet since original release so guess I should pre-order. Do you get a free character level with the pre-order? I've got 110 Mage, Shaman, Rogue, Demon Hunter, and Death Knight. What should I use my level on?

You do get a free boost for pre-ordering.

Priest got a lot of interesting character specific lore bits this time around, particularly shadow priest.

My hunter main heart says recommend hunter, but i also feel like if you aren't already on the hunter train at this point you probably have a reason, so i won't.

Boost a Warlock.
