The moment I’ve all been waiting for is here at last! I bought into the Early Access release of Pit People back in 2017, after being utterly won over by The Behemoth’s PAX East demo. (If anyone at The Behemoth is reading this, if you decide to mass-produce and sell those fantastic custom joysticks, I will buy two of them.) I played just enough of it to know I wanted to wait until the story was completely done before playing more. Well, now the story is done, the game is undergoing its final release, and I’m looking forward to jumping back in with both feet.

If you’ve ever wondered what the people behind Battleblock Theatre and Alien Hominid would do with an Xcom game, now’s your chance to find out. Pit People is my Game of the Week.

While I'm glad to have gotten an answer to whether Little Witch Academia: Chamber of Time was actually coming out or not, I am less pleased to learn it wasn't last week. As such, I've been spending time avoiding the Internet and simply playing whatever I have in my possession.

If I were to pick a game up this week, however, it would be Heroine Anthem Zero Episode 1. The art style, animations, and combat are flashing me back to sessions of Muramasa: The Demon Blade, which was a pretty decently entertaining hack-and-slash. This game looks to have combat that's more up my alley than even Demon Blade, as well as a variety of entertaining bosses and encounters. It easily gets my pick of the week.

Pit People looks hilarious, but I worry that its combat will be less crunchy XCOM and more mashy Deathspank.

Immortal Redneck has a similar wacky vibe, with Pyramid-raiding, weird-powers FPS … but given that I picked a Milkshake Duck for my GOTW a couple of weeks ago and that it’s a roguelike, it’s a pass from me.

The most interesting game to me this week is Mulaka. The action-adventuring looks decent enough, and the environments are pretty, but the unique selling point is that it’s a story steeped in the lore and music of northern Mexico’s Tarahumara people. Looks like a cool way to learn about a culture. I’m in.

Here's the list, now in release-date order!

Sorry, DT, this is another week where I feel like we could do with a lot less PC releases because so much of it is absolute trash. And by trash I don't mean "hey we made a silly little game with sh*t controls and visuals but is a play on current events" so much as "quick, Steam still lets us put up games we cobbled together with Unity's free packs." This stuff just chokes out the potentially worthwhile stuff.

Some interesting releases this week. Where the Water has my curiosity piqued the most. A narrative adventure telling folk-lore stories set in Great Depression America seem like a unique premise. Understand that there's a lot of writers involved, each telling a unique, original story. Understand there's quite a voice cast as well, including the actors for Lee & Clem in OG Telltale Walking Dead.

Hope it pans out.

Into the Breach seems to be getting a lot of positive previews. FTL was great but the RTS genre is my Kryptonite. Breach looks like TBS, so perhaps it might work out for my style.

Into the Breach looks really neat. You aren't trying to defeat the enemy so much as delay their assault long enough by negating their attacks. Interesting stuff.

Battleblock Theater is one of the best/funniest games I've ever played and knowing that Pit People was only coming to XBox made it a difficult decision to switch to the PS this gen.

Trying real hard to not buy any games in 2018 .... But Into the Breach is awfully tempting....

You're right. I don't even know what's coming on PC anymore and don't give anything I see a chance because the list is too big to be useful. i wonder if whoever is releasing these things has a soul.

Into the Breach hype!

I could have sworn iOS / Android were platforms they were releasing on but, after looking it up, am sad to be wrong. Steam it is then.

I'm sure this game will be ported eventually if you have the patience.

I have no patience, so I will be picking up Into the Breach tomorrow.

Just set a price cutoff and don't list any PC games that come out at less than say $5. That will remove a lot of the crap like garion was talking about.
