NFL 2018 Offseason Thread

In honor of Joe Thomas's retirement, a fun little Browns video:

That's just cruel.

Raiders sign Jordy Nelson.

Expected to release Michael Crabtree.

There is a possibility Michael Crabtree could be a Seattle Seahawk while Richard Sherman is a San Francisco 49er.

That's certainly the best timeline to live in. I'm in!

THAT'S WHAT YOU GET!

Uh, the Niners just traded Daniel Kilgore to the Dolphins. You know, after they just gave him a contract extension but then signed someone better.

And when I say "Crabtree could be a Seahawk", I don't just mean in the theoretically-any-NFL-team-could-sign-him sense. I mean the Seahawks are actively looking for free agent WRs. Jordy Nelson had a visit scheduled with them, but obviously never made it.

Seattle would be one of the more likely potential destinations for a FA WR like Crabs.

Panthers seem poised to sign a backup for Cam: Dontari Poe!

Note that the video comes from the pre-celebration era of the NFL.

"Every Browns loss since 2011"

Who has that kind of time for a YouTube video?

And here's my video of every Browns win since 2017.

Jags sign TEs Niles Paul and Austin Seferian-Jenkins.

I'd crack a joke about ASJ, but the novel of thanks he wrote on Instagram to the people in the Jets org that helped him salvage his career from the brink of oblivion doesn't have me in the joking mood. I hope he can stay on track and continue to have a productive career.

I was looking at PFR the other day based on some ASJ discussion on Bucs Nation; he averaged 7.1 yards/catch last year. As a TE. It's the lowest average on the team; even Bilal Powell and Matt Forte both had a higher average.

ASJ was an utter moron in Tampa, but he's clearly an incredibly fast, athletic guy. I cannot for the life of me understand how someone that big and fast catches 50 balls for a total of 357 yards.

Given ASJ's YPC was much higher the rest of his career (including the games he played for the Jets in 2016), I'm pinning that on first-time offensive coordinator John Morton, who the team fired after the season. He was... not good.

Ryan Grant "failed" his physical with the Ravens. Guess they got cold feet after they realized what an insane contract they offered him.

It's been suggested that the timing of the failure and Michael Crabtree's sudden availability were suspiciously in line with each other.

Crabs is visiting Baltimore today.

Yeah, completely coincidental!

Ryan Grant drew 0 defensive pass interference penalties last season. Crabtree was 10th in the league in yardage from DPI. The Ravens couldn't turn that down.

In fact, Crabs had more DPI yards than the entire Ravens WR group last year.

Maclin had only 1 for 7 yards. Easy to see why he had to go.

TE Ed Dickson trades the sunshine and traffic of Charlotte for the clouds and worse traffic of Seattle.

Panther Fan, meanwhile, is debating the pros and cons (mostly cons) of Eric Ebron, most recently of the Lions.

The hottest take I saw (some variation on the theme that Ebron is terribad) was from a guy with NCSU in his Twitter handle. (It's funny because Ebron played at Carolina.)

There's gotta be Ebron is gonna break out memes already made.

Not so fast there, hoss. Breeland just failed his physical.

Anyone have a spare CB just lying around?

I'm pretty sure Chris Conte could fail to play CB just as "well" as he fails to play safety.

There's a few still out there making the rounds. Rashaan Melvin and EJ Gaines are both guys PFF graded very highly last year. Darqueze Dennard had a good year in his contract season, after being a disappointment up until that point.

That's about it as far as guys you would expect to come in and be immediate starters.

Shalalm baskur to you, my friend.

Tyrann Mathieu signs a one-year deal with Not Tampa. Specifically, Houston.

Crabtree went to Ravens, natch.

Jets trade three 2nd round picks to the Colts to move up to 1.3 (from 1.6), which puts them one spot ahead of Browns. Any chance the Browns had at not taking a QB 1st overall is now dead. Chance of Barkley or someone else at 1.4 is super high. I think the chance they were gonna trade down with a QB hungry team is now lessened.

The Colts have three 2nd round picks this year and now two next year. That's exactly the sh*t they should've done all along, Ryan Grigson.

I think if I’m the Browns I still take Barkley at 1 knowing that even if two QB’s are taken I have a QB not named Mayfield to draft. Saquon is just to attractive to pass for what is really a 3 QB crapshoot.

It's odd that the Jets would sign both McCown *and* Bridgewater if they were going to do this.

Feels like someone is likely to be cut in camp.

Vinny Curry lands in Tampa, and, having never played a snap, is already just as accomplished as every DE since Simeon Rice. If the Bucs can draft Minkah Fitzpatrick plus Hall of Fame defenders with every other pick they might get up to an average defense this year.

Now that the Jets have taken pick #3, Buffalo must look to trade with someone else to get into QB range.

Cleveland has pick #4.

Buffalo could give them pick #12 and... pick #22.

Saquon Barkley #1 and Baker Mayfield #22 confirmed.
