Every time I look at the list, I misread Full Metal Furies as Full Metal Furries, which would probably be a very different game. As it stands, fine folks at Cellar Door have decided to follow up Rogue Legacy with an action/brawler RPG with a heavy emphasis on co-op. I won’t, however, hold that against them, because they added a swap-in-and-out mechanic like Agents of Mayhem to make sure those of us who hold our hermitting permits dear don’t get left out in the cold.

Rogue Legacy is still in rotation as a game I play regularly, and if Cellar Door can pull off the 2D to 3D transition as well as The Behemoth did, then this one will be an early contender for my 2018 top-ten list. Full Metal Furies gets my nod for game-of-the-week.

Wait a minute, Mutant Football League is actually coming out?

Here is where you pretend to hear the clickity-clackity of a keyboard conducting a Google search.
Holy Moly, Mutant Football League is actually coming out! On consoles, at least. I had evidently completely missed the PC release back in autumn, from which the title has received rather middling reviews. Nonetheless, I'm glad to see a spiritual successor seeing the light of day at all.

Neither I nor my childhood friend actually understood the rules of football, but that's part of what made Mutant League Football on the SEGA Genesis so much fun. You didn't need to understand how sports are sportsed in order to have fun with it. The fun was in all the monstrous antics of inhuman creatures charging into each other. One of my favorite memories is choosing the "Kill the Ref" play over and over again just to see how many names the game could come up with.

The answer is "a lot".

Mutant Football League gets my pick for Game of the Week – especially now that I actually like football!

I love stealth games. Breaking into people’s homes, rifling through their stuff, reading their mail, eavesdropping – these are fun mechanics for me. You do these things in Beholder, but in a context that makes you realise how creepy it actually is. You are a landlord, spying on your tenants for your totalitarian masters. On top of the spying, you also have to manage the apartment building to make it attractive to new tenants.

Beholder’s themes are similar to Papers, Please but the gameplay is not about replicating tedium, but rather about acts that usually stoke our power fantasies. For offering a thought-provoking twist on my favourite things, Beholder gets my nod for the week.
