The GWJ CRPG Club - Game 4 Underway!

Yeah, its probably best to keep things as we set them up. If we want to fiddle with how its done, we'll get an opportunity later. Apologies for the confusion spike! I think I've been thinking about voting systems too much. I blame FiveThirtyEight.

This is a CRPG club. The voting rules should be complex and stat-based.

Everyone pick your alignment and voter class. I'm thinking Chaotic Neutral, Single Issue Voter.

We should start a nominating process to form a voting committee to decide rules for a runoff election. When should that process begin? I vote next week.

You really dont need to worry about the electoral system. Icewind Dale is going to win.

Hahaha. Good humor to check in on this thread at the end of a stressful workday!

Thanks for the ideas on how to pick a winner. I originally was thinking of a two-tiered system like Harpo talks about for doing a second level of voting, but I think the JRPGs system of allowing three votes kind of gets at that concept already. And while I certainly like the simplicity of a coin flip for breaking ties, I think it's worth having some sort of quick runoff to see if we can get a clear preference. We'll be playing a game for three months, so spending another couple days to get a game that the greatest number of people are interested in playing is worth the extra time.

Speaking of voting, it certainly looks as if the voting has run its course and we've got a tie, let's move right into a tiebreaker!

CRPG Tiebreaker Runoff Election!
Shadowrun: Dragonfall and Baldur's Gate EE tied with 12 votes, so we'll do a quick 48-hour tiebreaker election, starting immediately (11pm GMT, 1/18/18). The voting will end promptly at 11pm GMT on 1/20/18.

Since the goal is to get the game the most people will play, let's do these for rules.

Tie-Breaker Rules
• Each member can vote for one or both games. If you don't have a strong preference for one game over the other and would play both, vote for both. Otherwise, cast your vote for just one game. May the most popular game win!
• If both games are tied at the end of the tie-breaker, we'll flip a Google coin!

Shadowrun: Dragonfall - 0
Baldur's Gate EE - 0

Candidates
Baldurs Gate EE ($19.99) (30 hours)
Shadowrun: Dragonfall Director's Cut ($14.99) (21 hours) ($2.99 on Humble until 1/24)

Shadowrun: Dragonfall is my vote

I vote both!

My vote is Shadowrun: Dragonfall.

Icew...

I mean Baldur's Gate EE

Dragonfall

I don't have EE, but do have the original via GOG and would still play along with that version if that's what's decided.

Same with me.

I vote Dragonfall

Baldur's Gate

Quick update...

Shadowrun: Dragonfall - 9
Baldur's Gate EE - 7

Candidates
Baldurs Gate EE ($19.99) (30 hours)
Shadowrun: Dragonfall Director's Cut ($14.99) (21 hours) ($2.99 on Humble until 1/24)

Dragonfall

I'm excited to get started with this.

I can put up a main discussion thread once the voting ends on Saturday and we should be off and running.

I'll cast my vote for both. I'm looking forward to playing either game, and have no strong preference one way or the other.

I’ve burned through both of these more than once already, but given the current historical moment, Shadowrun: Dragonfall gets my vote.

Baldur's Gate

Dragonfall is short. According to my Steam play time, it took me 14.3 hours to finish. What are we gonna do for the rest of the 3 months?

If anything, it should be all 3 Shadowrun games together, and those added together don't even equal one Baldur's Gate. Heck in my playthroughs the Shadowrun games didn't take even half as long as the BG:EE playthrough.

I guess if we do do Dragonfall, I'll probably do a run of all 3 in order.

BG:EE

My thinking on this is twofold:

First, this isn't going to be the only game I play, so a shorter game is somewhat preferable.

Second, since it's the end of January already, we could take a couple months to play Shadowrun at a leisurely pace, see how the club gets along, find out what works and what doesn't, then start a new game around the first of April to get onto a more sensible quarterly schedule. As it is, it'll be a bit odd to run from late January to late April.

A shorter, smaller game makes a good trial balloon for these kinds of games clubs, in my experience.

Run for the shadows run for the shadows
Run for the shadows in these golden years

I vote Shadowrun: Dragonfall.
