Buying Zero Games in 2018 (Or One or Two, I'm Not the Boss of You)

The problem is buying the game at a discount provides the same satisfaction as playing the game. You have experienced a similar high that the game provides without ever launching the game.

"Top. Men."

How long does that high last? 10 seconds? A minute tops?

Long enough to never launch the game.

A lot of this stuff comes back to being more mindful and being less impulsive, I think. Threads like this help, honestly.

I'm not in a zero-buying mode, but I have successfully and purposefully NOT bought several games this year. I didn't preorder Bayonetta 1 & 2 on Switch and I didn't pick up the special edition of Fire Emblem Warriors on sale. I don't want my switch to become a pile-collection machine like Steam, so I've been only buying when I'm ready to play. It's a nice feeling to have the eagerness to jump right into what's new and not buy what I'm not ready to play.

For me, there is not much likelihood that it would last as long as the dissatisfaction of a poor purchase decision. And I don't think I have anything that I've never played. The things I didn't finish were for valid reasons. But I got my teeth into everything I ever bought.

jrralls - I bounced a PM your way if you want to bounce one back. Thanks!

So I just bought two books rather than an indie game. How should I adjust my scale as these are not video games but they about as much as slay the spire. I have not figured out the replay value of these books yet.

Welp, today was a total failure. Got three PS2 games and one GC game at the local game shop, then a few games on the Steam sale. I'm still well in the green, and have spent far less this year than last year at this time. So...progress....

I got the Hotas Thrustmaster stick/throttle for XBO. Still no games though!

Alright, we've got 20 in Hardcore mode - no games since beginning of the year - not including me. But we should include me, because I'm there, too.

I'd like to propose something for the hardcore folks. [Edit - I cleared this with jrralls via pm, already] But I don't want it to control or limit you. Because we are, after all, Gamers. With jobs.

I'd like to propose that for each of the 20 Hardcore users still alive when I buy a game, I'd contribute $10 to a charity on behalf of GWJ. Just to get a little fun out of this.

This is strictly on the honors system. If you buy, post it. I'll shorten the list or make a new list. And when I cry uncle, I'll give everyone ... I dunno... a couple days to reconcile, then I'll write the check. There's really nothing else to it.

I thought about gifts and free games and other loopholes. I don't care. Just be honorable. As I posted before, how does it make you FEEL?

Just post back in here if you get a game that you feel takes you out of the list. Have fun! (I hope!)

Oh man, if Summer Games Done Quick is during the summer steam sale, I would spend more on the charity donation than I would on the games and it would go toward preventing cancer.

Awesome.

I still haven't spent money on a game yet in 2018. I used a gift card given to me by my work to buy Monster Hunter World. And that's it! Doing good, I think!

As a support thing for each other, let's talk about games we never got around to playing that we are now playing because we aren't constantly buying new games!

My current obsession is finishing Valkyria Chronicles before I even consider buying 4. I love that series, but have never finished a game. I'm working through that along with Shadow of the Colossus. The rest of my free gaming time is spent picking away at Advance Wars right now.

EDIT: Oh, and I am still playing through Mario Odyssey, but I'm not sure I have it in me to collect enough moons to do the "extra levels" assuming there are any.

The latest Humble Bundle got me. I only owned one of the games. Such great value. I need to figure out which ones I can actually run.

So reset to 2 days.

Alien: Isolation. It's sitting right here...it's so pretty...so scary...I should fire it up...*gulp*

I couldn't hang with the tension in Alien: Isolation but the aesthetic is so cool, especially the audio design. Headphones or bust with this game.

As for my time, when I'm not distracted by Monster Hunter World I've been playing Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age and revisiting a stalled attempt at Culdcept: Revolt. I still don't know how I feel about the reworked license boards in the former and I was a bit overwhelmed by the complexity of the the latter.

Buying ten games is ok because 10 has a zero in it.

I'm trying SO HARD to finish first level of Titan's Quest. Restarted at Level 1 with a Haruspex. Using this build, but probably put points in the wrong places first.

I'm only 30th level, and progression seems mind-numbingly slow, compared to D3. Pure drudgery. I finally got to what I think is the final battle, and he mops me in 10 seconds or less. This game is not fun enough to keep going.

I'll probably look back at some OLD games - I liked the Freedom Force stuff, and didn't finish that.

Might even have an old copy of MYTH around here..."Sorry 'bout that..."

Jeez, I am still on that list, huh? I guess I haven't posted here in awhile, I should have been removed very early in January, and a few times since then. I have no willpower

I've not bought games in a couple of weeks...but I'm getting Into the Breach tomorrow. Oh yes.

Bought one game this year, They are Billions. The Switch is making this more difficult than usual. Just a steady flow of games - both triple A and Indie.

I read that sentence, ran to Google, and was disappointed when "They are Billions" wasn't on Switch.

I am happily still at 0. I'm currently working through Dragon Age Inquisition and taking my time, while also playing World of Final Fantasy. I'm toying with the idea of picking up an electronic drum kit, so might end up breaking my streak by buying Rockband for the PS4, but thats considered a learning tool right

I've played in a rock band, and I've played Rock Band. The correlation is not strong.

I have done both as well and know it is a far cry from the real thing.

But would you say RB drums are the closest simulation?

Vocals is the closest simulation. Drums would be closer than the guitar/bass simulation.
