The GWJ JRPG Club 2.0

Pfft, I do it all the time. I'm just too selfish to feel guilty. Go for it! Vote!

Spoiler:

As long as that vote is for FFX.

If we get another FF then a name change to "The Quarterly FF Club" will be in order :p.

I had that joke ready if one won.

Oh, okay, arm twisted!

Shin Megami Tensei IV
Fire Emblem Echoes
Suikoden II

Great! No reason not to vote if you're interested in playing.

Voting update! We've got a tie for first place, folks. Will someone upset the balance or will we run a tie-breaker? Or will one of the 2nd place games surge forward? We'll see. Voting runs through 3/29.

Ni No Kuni - 6
Shin Megami Tensei IV - 6
Final Fantasy X - 5
Suikoden II - 5
Final Fantasy XIII - 4
Trails of Cold Steel - 4
Fire Emblem Echoes - 3
Atelier Rorona - 1

Shin Megami Tensei IV
Suikoden II
Final Fantasy XIII

Last day of voting...

Shin Megami Tensei IV - 7
Ni No Kuni - 6
Suikoden II - 6
Final Fantasy X - 5
Final Fantasy XIII - 5
Trails of Cold Steel - 4
Fire Emblem Echoes - 3
Atelier Rorona - 1

...The reality of SMTIV perhaps winning is making me concerned that I still have 20-something hours of Persona 5 left. Crap.

Regardless of which game wins, I need to knock that one out before I join in on the next month's game. Argh!

No worries! Enjoy the rest of Persona 5! Start the club game late, finish it late... it doesn't matter as long as you're having fun.

I don't own SMTIV but I should consider a non FF game winning a positive ;).

I am more excited about the possibility of an SMT win in this poll than literally anything else today.

I'd have to decide if I should start SMT IV over again or try to finish my original game from years ago...

Just to confirm, this is the game, right:
Shin Megami Tensei IV

Heading out of town tomorrow and am thinking to swing by Gamestop to pick it up, assuming it's the winner.

That's the one!

I recall it being a bit cheaper digitally, so it may be worth looking into that. Just a tip!

It looks like it is the same price(us). It could be a little cheaper with gold coin point number tokens though.

Must be a region thing. We didn't get a physical release here. I bought it a long time ago, so maybe my memory is wrong -- could have been on sale.

Oh well, disregard that post then

Wait, you can buy DS games digitally?

*haven't really used mine*

DS games on the WII U i believe. 3DS games; yes for ages.

Wow, didn't realise it was a $20 game. Might get in on this after all...

Right now SMTIV is $19.99 on the NA eShop. Like most Atlus games, it has been on sale, but 20 bucks is a great price for the game. I paid over twice that!

Yeah, 3DS games are mostly all available digitally. This is opposed to DS games, which as was said, only some are available on the Wii U eshop. 3DS being the successor to the DS... but there's also the 2DS which plays 3DS games without the 3D.

(shouting at the sky) NINTENDOOOOOOOO!!!!

Anyway, SMTIV it is!

Thread is up.

I played this when it came out... but I may be tempted to at least refresh my memory.

I think I’m going to sit this one out and hook up with you folks next time around. Never got too excited about the devil summoner games and I have FF 12 to finish (about 30 hours through but hunts have been slowing me down). See you all in three months.

Enjoy the game! I will be sitting this one out as I just reached Raithwall in FFXII and the SMT games outside Persona have never interested me. Hope it's a blast for everyone and I regret not playing along.

I’d like to gauge the amount of interest in the club for the upcoming quarter running July through September.

Participation last quarter was pretty low. That’s fine; it happens. But before opening up nominations, I thought I’d check.

I'd be interested. I would have hopped in on SMT IV, but I only just joined the boards, am playing a few other things, and would not be able to finish SMT in time, even though I recently restarted it and got several hours in.

Spoiler:

I'm in the Corpse Disposal quest in Shinjuku.

I am willing to make an honest effort to play this quarter. Maybe this is what I need to break out of my rpg slump.

Just a suggestion, instead of limiting to 1 nomination can we spend a week just bring up games that we may be intersted in playing and then picking from that list? That should bring some conversation back into the tread and it may bring back some curiosity about the games

I'm in. The only reason why I didn't join in on the current one is because I don't own a 3DS and couldn't play the pick, but I'm definitely in.

I don't like saying it and I'm not the first to but each round there have been numerous people who either nominated or voted for a game that then haven't gone on to participate. That being the case then maybe the club should die.

I've started three of these games and failed three times. I was really hopeful this time, but April-May-June was kind of crazy this year for me.

JRPGs are minor interest for me, so even with some good intentions I've found myself prioritizing other things when life frequently gets busy. But even if I don't make it far into the games, I do like to follow the conversations. I am still hopeful that I'll get better at starting and finishing some of the club's games.

I do hope you continue, though. Even if it's a not a huge group, it's still fun.

That rather stinks hehehe. I only [i]not[i] participate when I don't have the game, but I make sure I post a little about it, at the very least, when I do have the game - hell, I even posted in the Suikoden II thread although I'd already played through it, iirc.

My personal record is:
Games I voted for/nominated:
Atelier Totori - about half way through before I burnt out (but was at least 2nd that month in terms of progress made)
Trails in the Sky FC - finished
Suikoden 1 - burnt out about 5 hours from the end
Could have sworn there was one more here! Slipped my mind.

Games I didn't vote for but played anyway:
FF X-2 - bought it for game club but lost interest pretty quickly
SMTIV - bought it for game club and beat it.

I definitely appreciate it when folks who've played the game previously participate with comments and feedback. However folks shouldnt be voting for or nominating games they've already played solely with the good intentions of encouraging more people to play said game. I've definitely seen that a few times.
