I’m pretty new to this game club and I love the concept. It’s a great excuse to dive back into FFXII this year.
Are there any particular guidelines for newbies like me? Is any JRPG fair game or is it less socially acceptable to pick older or more obscure titles? Should I factor price or scarcity into any nomination so that some folks don’t feel left out?
It's like a US Presidential election: nominate whatever you like, but plan to vote for the least worst Final Fantasy game.
I think that availability is important to consider. For example, a PS1/2 title should hopefully be available on PS3/PS4/Vita as a classic or HD rerelease.

Yeah... shoulda seen that coming. Well, at least that narrows down my choices ;).

Play Chrono Trigger. It's like I Am Setsuna, but good.

Oh hi Jeremy Parish
If you had put more than an hour into I Am Setsuna and if I had put more than hour into Chrono Trigger maybe that's a discussion we could have, but until then I'm content to ignore your pixel-shaped nostalgia.
The first rule of JRPG Club is Digimon Cyber Sleuth was robbed.
Tokyo Mirage Sessions so I have an excuse to go back and re-record.
Or I Am Setsuna so I have an excuse to go back and re-record. :sweat-smile:
I really need to get my desktop set up and, like, fifty external hard drives so that, yes, I can just record everything first time through.
What FFs haven't been chosen yet?

All previous games are in the OP, and it looks updated through Q1.

So... which? :)
I don't know because I also just remember I got Mega Man Battle Network on my WiiU VC and have been wanting to revisit it.
AAAARGH
I nominate Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel.
I'm a little upset I wasn't able to play along with FFXII. Time constraints in mind, I'd like to suggest a handheld game (and one I feel like I'll need a bit of help playing...!)
Shin Megami Tensei IV.
I've had a lot of fun with the last 3 Persona titles, but I really want to see what the franchise really is. I know a lot of hardcore fans look down on Persona, so I'm expecting something pretty grand. My first 2 attempts had me stuck in dungeon 1 before getting frustrated and putting it down. This time I'm really keen to push on, and I'd love to do that with some friends.
I really wanted to join in for the last game, but couldn't find the time do so with Ni No Kuni 2 coming out soon my console rpg time will be busy, but if a portable game gets picked I'll make the effort to join. I just don't know what to nominate.
I'm hoping to play along with this as well, although I don't feel qualified enough yet to nominate anything.
I’ll second SMT:IV. I’ve been staring at that one on my shelf for years. It’ll be good motivation to finally play it.
As for my own nomination: is there any love out there for one of the Fire Emblem games? I’m kinda obsessed with that series at the moment, so I’d be down for playing (or replaying) any of the titles that other folks might be interested in.

I have been hoping to play through the whole series, and started on Fire Emblem I a while back. I got sidetracked, but I'd be inclined to try one of the later games, for sure. I wouldn't recommend Fire Emblem I, btw.
I'm technically on Sacred Stones right now, playing it via the Ambassador games on 3DS. Not sure I feel like going back to it, though. Echoes: Shadows of Valentia should allow people a Fire Emblem without relationship mechanics but with that wonderful Turnwheel that really needs to be a permanent addition to the franchise.
Not my nomination, but if folks wanted to do a Fire Emblem that's the one I'd recommend. Sadly I don't think it's all that affordable.
Well, may as well continue the series: I nominate Final Fantasy XIII since it's sitting on my backlog waiting to be played after I wrap up XII.
I'm holding out for an FFXIII-trilogy HD remaster myself.
Typically FF remasters are announced after I start playing the original so I'll see what I can do for you there.
Can I nominate Ni no Kuni? I missed a lot of that generation of games and with the squeal coming out I am keen to try it out.
I'll second Final Fantasy XIII, I've been eyeing off giving that a try after missing out on it originally.

Digital high-five!
Also, yeah, I don't mind me some Fire Emblem! I really enjoy the permadeath aspect to them. While I really like the mechanically rich newer games, I have a soft spot for the more direct approach of the older games. The latest remake seems like a nice middle-ground.
Y'know what? I'll punch in a nomination for Final Fantasy X. It doesn't look like that was replayed, and I've been wanting to go back and record that again from the start to do a video on. Will it actually happen? WHO KNOWS?! But it's the only nominee I feel comfortable putting in (TMS#FE is only on WiiU, played I Am Setsuna too recently, Valkyria Chronicles was already played, and Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth is only on PSX, PSP, and... is it getting a smartphone release outside Japan? Yeah, too tough to play).
