MOD NOTE: A new club is born! JRPG Club 2.1V Remastered!
JRPG Club?
Yup! Each quarter we start a new JRPG and discuss it.
Nominating and Voting:
- First, we have one week of nominations. Each member is allowed one nomination. To be included in the voting, however, a game must also be "seconded" by another member. Members can second as many games as they would potentially be interested in playing.
Games nominated must have had their original (so a recent remake can be voted for) western release at least one year ago and not be a game the club has already played.
- Next, we have one week of voting. Each member is allowed three votes, but can only spend one vote per game. However, they do not have to use all three votes. They can even vote without having nominated anything!
So... I have to beat a long JRPG every three months?
Okay, stop twisting my arm. You can have six months, but we'll still start a new game every three.
How do I join the club?
Send a check for... Just kidding, it's free and easy: just post in this thread that you're interested and are playing or will be playing a game we are currently playing or plan to play in the future.
How do I level up?
Just finish a game during the time period allotted and you gain a level! Thanks to Godzilla Blitz and the CRPG Club for this and other ideas! Levels are only based on games played in the 2.0 incarnation of the club. There are no penalties for not finishing. First member to level 100 gets to go to Japan (if they pay for the trip themself).
2.0?
The JRPG Club was created by Damnable Bear. After over two years, he decided to move on, and with his permission, I (steinkrug) have decided to keep things going with this new thread. Thanks, DB! The previous club thread is linked just below.
Current games:
Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past (October 1 - March 31)

Hrm. I'll have to think about what's on my pile that I'd like to give a whirl.
Is there a list anywhere of what's already been played?
I’m in. I keep meaning to join this thing.
I can't promise I'll be done with Persona 5 by the time we start, but I'd love to jump in one one of these. I might throw in a vote for a non-Persona Megaten title, or some handheld Dragonquest
Hi steinkrug, thanks for picking up the mantle!
I'm thinking Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel would be a good nomination since it got plenty of votes in the previous thread (Q4 2017).
Here's my list:
Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel
Final Fantasy XIII-2
Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age
Persona 5
Hey brokenclavicle! Thanks for the interest.
So, there’s a few changes in how we’re going about choosing a game detailed in the OP based on discussion in the old thread. At least pending any objections from the community.
Ah! I have been a filthy skimmer hahaha
Here goes the nomination, then:
Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel
This is like when a father sees his son succeed his life's work and a single tear rolls down the father's eye. Except steinkrug and I aren't related.
Yet.
I'd like to nominate The Secret of Mana.
I'd like to nominate The Secret of Mana.
SNES version? The remake is releasing in February.
I already know I'm getting a SNES Classic for Christmas so I'm all on board for an excuse to replay Secret of Mana, even if I'm just gonna play it again in February. I also think it's closer to the 20-30 hour range than 40-50, which is quite convenient.

The SNES version, yes.
Resonance of Fate!
Replaying FF XII and now Xenoblade C2 reminds me how much I missed this genre. I have not nominations but I'm following and in.
FF XII The Zodiac Age
Well I've only actually played one quarter of all the ones listed but I enjoy the thread and maybe it'll hit a pile game for me again in 2018.
Was there a link to this new thread from the old one? A lot of people only check their recent posts. Slow day at work or I wouldn't have bothered and found this.
Thanks for organising this.
DIGIMON STORY CYBER SLEUTH (PS4, Vita)
Thanks for taking up the mantle, Steinkrug!
Here's my two cents:
Shadow Hearts (PS2)
Thanks for the thread steinkrug. I’ll try and play along if a pile title wins the quarterly race. No need to nominate this time as the pile jrpg I’d like to vote for is already up...
I'll put Tokyo Mirage Sessions (Wii U)
Nominations will be open through tomorrow, 12/30 and then we’ll kick off voting on New Year’s Eve. Surely to be the highlight of that day for all! ;)
It is, actually!
Well, a highlight, at least. I won't be partying that day so...
I would like to vote for Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel and Final Fantasy XII
