NFL 2017 Week 14 Thread

So I just watched the Bills-Colts highlights. Two thoughts:

1. Joe Webb! (former Panther)

2. Didn't LeSean McCoy (156 yards, 1 TD today) play in the Eagles game a few years back that was played in about three feet of snow?

Bortles... threw... good... again?

75 yard deep corner TD to Keelan Cole.

Oh god this is how Bortles ends up back next year. He's gonna Flacco it at least to one playoff win.

Bortles throwing a 130 against Seattle right now. Haha.

Certis was taken out with a knee injury. I would have subbed in the Game Kang instead of Foles.

Jags went to sleep and now Wilson is throwing bombs to catch up.

I hate the Seahawks, but Russell Wilson.... that guy balls.

Pete Carroll being pissed off about defensive backs grabbing is pure comedy.

Yeesh, who's in charge of defense for Seattle? Greg Schiano?

News flash: Michael Bennett is a piece of sh*t.

And we're close to having another Malice at the Palace.

BREAKING: Certis might have blown out the ACL on one of his knees.

That stinks for the Eagles. Sorry, Guru.

OMG this meshes with that deadspin article about the Eagles on one of the last few pages. Eagle fan already had that trophy in that case.

Yep story of my life as an Eagles fan. We just sit around and wait for the shoe to drop no matter how good things may be going. Oh well there’s always next year.

Edit

Can we talk about Jacksonville fans throwing stuff at Seattle players as they left the field? Wtf do they think they are in Philly??

Jacksonville has many, many years of suckitude built up so I'll give them a pass this time.

I was going to post that Philly fans article, and then I remembered it was here that I saw it and you that posted it.

Perfect timing there.

Ugh.

I missed the play that got Wentz injured but saw a quick replay clip and God dammit Wentz this is why I'm always nervous when you don't slide.

Milkman, given your predictions last week and this week, do me a favor and never bet on the Eagles winning. Always bet on them losing.

Every time someone smiled and mentioned "Super Bowl" it made me groan. It's like a "This is how you get ants!" situation.

I know those fans get ridiculed given how pitiful the team is but I sorta admire their eternal optimism contrasted to my eternal pessimism.

There is a reason Jason Mendoza is not supposed to be in The Good Place.

That's an extremely odd way to tear an ACL. Usually it happens when the foot is planted, where the knee gets lateral force applied because the foot is dug into the turn and doesn't move. It's unusual to get that kind of lateral tearing force applied to a free leg, as the leg moves and the force doesn't get isolated on the ligament.

But as discussed in a previous thread, if they're saying ACL, then they already know it's ACL. The trainer knew as soon as he or she examined the knee on the bench.

Just odd. I could have watched that play a hundred times and I would never have concluded an ACL injury happened.

Jene Bramel's take:

CARSON WENTZ | LEFT ACL TEAR (SUSPECTED) | AWAITING INFORMATION
Wentz suffered a left knee injury and was quickly ruled out. Not long after, Adam Schefter reported the team had concern for a torn ACL. Though the timeline was simple and straightforward, the video was decidedly not. Almost always, we see clear evidence of a non-contact injury with a planted foot and the toes pointed outward and a rotational mechanism stressing the knee. It's rare to see an airborne injury to the ACL.

Unfortunately, the physical exam is rarely misleading with ACL injuries. Wentz will have an MRI on Monday to look for associated injuries. Also, unfortunately, Wentz may not have an isolated ACL injury. While the video replays didn't show a clear ACL mechanism, video of Wentz walking off the field seems to show some laxity on the outside of his left knee. That could mean an associated LCL injury. If that's severe enough to require reconstruction, it's a concern. While an isolated ACL injury could be rehabbed quickly enough to give Wentz a chance to return by Week 1 in 2018, concurrent LCL reconstruction and rehab will require a longer rehab -- possibly 9-12 months -- and definitely put the start of 2018 in doubt. It would also raise the possibility of other injuries to the back outside part of the knee and those complicate rehab.

I'll update with more after the results of Wentz's MRI are reported.

Sunday Night Update: Ian Rapoport tweeted the "Eagles believe Wentz injured his ACL but initial tests don't definitively show a complete tear." I sincerely hope we learn that Wentz has a stable knee and can return much more quickly than expected. But Rapoport's tweet doesn't make much sense. The Eagles wouldn't be suspicious of an ACL injury on exam if Wentz's knee was stable. So, whether Wentz has a partial tear or not -- and I'm not aware of any manual exam that can reliably tell the difference -- an unstable knee with an ACL injury requires surgery.

Certis' injury really sucks. I hate the Eagles with enthusiasm, but Wentz has been amazing this season and really fun to watch. (now I must go through the self-flagellation and purity shower)

I hope the injury really isn't as bad (although I know that's probably not the case) and that we see a 100% recovery. I am sure I will be cursing him soon enough.

I hope this doesn't mean Brady's gonna win POY and MVP again...

On the bright side, no matter what happens, Wentz at least made a record number of touchdown passes in Eagles history with this game.

Just saw the clip of what he did and that's ridiculous. You don't try and end someone's career like that. I probably would've been throwing trash too if I had seen that...

Here (or just Google "Michael Bennett")

If you can't see the clip, Bennett literally rolled into the long snapper on a kick. Unbelievably dumb.

In other news, I went to bed last night with the Ravens up by 10 or 11 and thinking the Steelers were doomed. This morning ... Steelers win. Huh.

I don't know about y'all, but this might have been the best NFL week of the season. Lots of good close games. Lots of controversy. Hell, even the Thursday game didn't suck for once.

I've probably jinxed tonight. But maybe not!

Wentz confirmed to be out the rest of the season and post-season with a torn ACL. Nick Foles is confirmed to return as star quarterback, and already friends on my Facebook timeline are crying because Wentz was going to take us to the Super Bowl and now we have no chance and I think someone called the waaaaaambulance.

It's a bummer but at least it's not a career-ending injury. Even with Wentz I think our games against the Seahawks and Rams should have been sign enough that we might not have what it takes to even make the Super Bowl, but I guess there have become two separate breeds of Philly fan: the obnoxious one that is precisely what everyone else says we are, and the pessimistic sort like Guru and I that always want us to be the best, but have been in Philly long enough that we're just waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Fortunately our next game is against the Giants, and if Foles has a problem with that game then I know we're screwed.
