The Buffalo shooter directly refers to jews as the replacers in his manifesto.

This is just awful.

No words for what happened in Buffalo besides heartbreak and anger. Heartbreak for those killed, harmed, and terrified. Anger at those who joyously profited from radicalizing the killer, but who today will strategically distance themselves and wash their hands of consequences.

As many people pointed out today, the parts of the shooter's manifesto talking about "Great Replacement" are functionally indistinct from a Tucker Carlson monologue.

I do hope someone asks a Twitch executive why their site has become the go-to place for white supremacists to stream killing sprees, and if they plan to do anything concrete about it.

Like, I'm fine with a "No," it's honest. But not handwavey "we take this very seriously our condolences" blah-blah-blah bullsh*t. This is several times now, using your platform. If you care, what material actions are you going to take?

What material actions could they take? Hiring precogs isn't practical.

Ban young white men from the platform entirely?

They could probably do something like you have to notify and get cleared before you live stream. (with exceptions for experienced streamers)

That wouldn't prevent anything. This dude had been planning this to the nth degree.

I'd wager that the streaming was the liquid courage for this. I am not saying that they'd pay more than lip service to vetting people like this from streaming. But even one small check can be a deterrence or prompt red flags...

Fair. The bedrock of how Twitch operates means they are always going to be reactive in these situations.

I also note that this gentleman said he got his political awakening on 4chan, a place which roughly hews towards the "if it's not illegal, let it stand" free speech maximism of people like Elon. So that's nice to consider for Twitter's future.

Jonman wrote:

Elon would just buy it and unban them.

Maybe it's more effective to worry about guns and white extremism, than the cointoss of which of the two streaming platforms these scumbags use.

This is, for me, yet another datapoint on how people talking about the "defeat" of the Alt-Right post-Charlotteville were 100% wrong.

That was, if anything, a signpost in their rise. This incident is yet another illustration of how much of their rhetoric, which literally 15 years ago would've gotten you drummed out of the Republican party, is now completely mainstream conservatism.

The broader war is still going but in terms of American Conservatism? The alt-right won, and handily. The mistake Richard Spencer and Matthew Heimbach made was saying the quiet part too inartfully, too early.

If Richard Spencer was coming to prominence right now, and had a little more nous on how to "massage" his rhetoric, he'd be a regular on Tucker/OANN by October. It really is just a matter of time until FOX mainstreams Nick Fuentes (further, I should say. At this point, they've discovered enough alternative methods of getting their voices out there to their potential audiences that they don't need FOX anymore. QAnon sure as sh*t didn't, and that's the second most impactful thing to happen in American Conservatism since 2016, behind Trump.)

Went digging for the Pentaverate clip from So I Married an Axe Murder; discovered the trailer for an upcoming Pentaverate movie; now the world seems a bit less bleak.

I'm sorry, I have no idea what any of that means besides "trailer for new movie".

The 1993 Mike Meyer's movie So I Married an Axe Murder had a scene that talked about the Penatverate, a fictional, all powerful group that secretly controlled the world that was his take on the crazy f*cks who really believe that the world is controlled by The Jews (tm), Rothchilds, Globalists, Bilderbergs, UN black helicopters, etc.

Meyer's has expanded that scene out to a new show that just came out on Netflix.

Yeah he was doing the talk show rounds this week. He plays all 5 secret leaders of the world. Should be funny.

In particular, the study strongly suggests that poverty is not principally the product of people's capabilities or attitudes. Rather, the very poor are usually mired in a poverty trap, in which an initial lack of resources prevents them from improving their circumstances. But the sudden acquisition of a productive asset—even, say, one cow—via a randomized asset transfer program can help spring the poor from that trap if it brings them above a basic wealth threshold. Instead of being farm laborers or domestic servants, rural people take up livestock rearing and more land cultivation, and sustain better incomes.

"The poor in these contexts are not unable to take on more productive employment, they simply lack the productive assets to do so," says Clare Balboni, an assistant professor of economics at MIT and co-author of a published paper detailing the study's findings.

The study adds evidence explaining what lies behind the success of "big push" antipoverty programs, which often center on significant one-time interventions. As the paper states, "big push policies which transform job opportunities represent a powerful means of addressing the global mass poverty problem." Such programs have gained traction over the last 15 years or so.

So basically: MIT study concludes that it does, in fact, take money to make money.

I'm going to go out on a limb and posit that it reduces crime as well...

I agree it is a bit of a "water is wet" type of moment but it is important to have research and data to support ideas. Even if it seem obvious.

But it also is an argument against the stigma that poor people stay that way due to a moral failing. This says they can lift themselves up by their own bootstraps...if they at least have some bootstraps to begin with.

In the US, the extreme individualism / personal responsibility cult may be able to be convinced by this. Oh wait, what the hell am I saying?? That's so damned naive...

So long, farewell, auf Wiedersehen, good night to Madison Cawthorne's career as an elected official.

He won't "go away," mind you. He'll probably be writing columns for The Blaze by August.

Chuck Edwards is a soulless, Republican operative that I'm sure will say and do plenty of horrible things, but he will at least keep the lights on here for his Congressional office, so that we actually have a representative.

And Maddy-boy, if you would like to scream voter fraud and drain the swamp at the Raleigh and Beltway GOP, go ahead. I've got a Jasmine for Congress sticker on my car, but she is going to need all the help she can get, here in the 11th. If Cawthorn would like to suppress the vote of his MAGA followers and maybe keep the grift going....

He's going to have so much time for cocaine orgies...

And he'll have a right-wing punditry job in a few weeks, at most. That crowd isn't the best when it comes to object permanence.

Cawthorne losing is great news for America.

Over in PA, insurrectionist Kathy Barnette thankfully got clobbered by Mehmet Oz and rich guy Dave McCormick, who are currently separated by around a thousand votes and will likely have a recount.

On the blue side of PA, mountain man Fetterman defeated both a stroke and his primary opponents in the same week. This puts him in strong position to flip a seat in the senate.

I wonder why PA Republicans are suddenly so comfortable with counting mail-in ballots and aren't screaming that the election results should have been called immediately after the polls closed...

I bet Connor Lamb is feeling real dumb for giving up his House spot...

(He'll have a CNN contributor role by the Fall.)

Boy, that R side in Pennsylvania.

Insurrectionist
or
A hedge fund guy
or
doctor f*cking oz (who doesnt even live there?)

I’m still wondering if he’s actually gay or just into aggressive homoerotic posturing. Some of the thought pieces I’ve been reading have talked about gay advances/sexual harassment as a way for some otherwise straight dudes to pull power moves. And as someone who was on the receiving end of said moves, I now realize it really colored my Perception of LGBT folks.

Also, my money is on Dr Oz. He’s the perfect mix of charming and sneaky.
