12-year-old suspended in Colorado Springs, Colorado over toy gun seen in virtual class

I'll give you three guesses as to the child's skin color, and the first two don't count.

Of course, this whole situation is ridiculous, because, I mean, webcam violence? But non-WASP children his age do have to be very, very careful how they play with toy guns in public.

For this reason, because of these racists, I can’t let my black son play with guns, squirt guns, nerf guns, or about half the toys I had as a white kid.

f*cking white people.

Just finished the Normie video. Dang, that was some scary stuff for me. Maybe 15 years ago, that could have been me had I fallen in with different friends or took up residence in a different online community. I was absolutely a Gabe looking for a place to belong.

I’ve come a long, long way. Thanks in no small part to GWJ. But watching that I recognize I still have a ways yet to go.

Thanks for posting the video, Paleocon

[defensively] Only near Colorado Springs. Technically, Widefield/Security.

What a horrible way to handle that situation. For a teacher who was "pretty sure" it was a toy, there are many steps they should have gone through before they got to calling in a welfare check with the sheriff's office.

No masks allowed in Jefferson County gun store, an example of the US divide

The future textbooks about this era are going to be something.

So does that mean clothes are not required to shop there either? I mean ... there seems to be a law about wearing clothes when in the public space.

EDIT: New campaign suggestion: Hitler required people to wear clothes.

The huge smile on her face...some people LOVE to be wrong.

This, from the "law and order" side of the aisle.

All the f*cking eyerolls.

In my mostly white neighborhood (I’m white) I saw four white kids having an airsoft gun battle in the middle of the street. As I drove past, I told my family, “They can do that because they’re white.”

This next one is painful to mention. I was talking with the son (20yo) of one of my neighbors who are black. He accidentally smacked me in the face. It was a total accident. He apologized profusely. I assured him that everything was ok and that I was not offended.

I haven’t seen him or his family out in the neighborhood since. Maybe those two facts are unrelated. I fear that they are related. That was about a year ago. It makes me so sad.

Not sure what kind of conversations you are having, but the risk of getting smacked in the face - even inadvertently - seems extremely small....especially when social distancing. Details!

I was holding my dog. He asked if he could pet the dog. My dog showed no signs of agitation, but then snapped at my neighbor. At this precise moment his hand was near my face. He jerked his hand away in reaction, and I got a little smack in the face.

It was an awkward moment to be sure, but completely unintentional and by no means was it done maliciously.

'Play it down': Trump admits to concealing the true threat of coronavirus in new Woodward book

There are literal recordings. It also gets into BLM, His Love affair with North Korea, and... just read the article.

Edit: Just saw it in the Covid thread.

in search of “Anti-American propaganda”

Ohhhhh nothing could possibly go wrong there.

Jeebus they are going backward in time with the pedal to the metal.

Anyone remember a little thing called the "House Un-American Activities Committee"? How long before that lovely institution is recreated in the name of keeping government employees "pure."

Less than 53 days, or not at all.

January 20, 2021 is 132 days away. Wisconsin taught us that much can be done in lame duck sessions. I wouldn't count on precedent to tie any hands.

That would be so Mitch, to suddenly try to pass laws against all the bullsh*t he and Trump have done the last 4 years.

Thankfully the Dems have the House.

I wouldn't put it past him to try and squeeze some recess appointments through, but those can get overturned in Jan assuming we take the Senate back.

Well, at least we know it won't be a House Committee. Senate probably but not House.

I think it's likely that won't happen until at least January 3rd. He can only make recess appointments if Congress goes on recess and both the Senate and House have agreed to remain in session until January 3rd.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Recess...

He might be able to go buck wild in the minutes between when one Congressional term ends and the next begins, but that's a smaller window. Also, should the Democrats retain the House and win the presidency, winning the Senate does not matter. Recess appointments are only valid until the end of the next congressional session. If Congress remains divided, Pelosi could refuse to agree to a lengthy end date with McConnell. Only when the two houses cannot agree on a session end date does the president have the authority to terminate a Congressional session. Therefore, Biden could prorogue the current session in late January and those recess appointments will expire.

Assume caveats about the Senate, Supreme Court, and the Presidency complying with the historically understood nature of the law are here.

From that Politico article:

President Donald Trump threatened on Twitter over the weekend to nix federal funding for California schools that teach the New York Times Magazine’s 1619 Project, which reexamines the role of slavery in the formation of the United States.

As a California resident, I speak for the entire state when I say, “BRING IT MOTHERf*ckER!”

Movement conservatism misses McCarthyism, thinks it was wholly justified, and wants it back. An old college mailing list I'm on has a troll forwarding hard-right garbage including this gem: "[BLM ideas come from those]...who had themselves been driven to hide below the rocks by the just-in-time McCarthy persecution that removed Communists from public life and the trade unions, making it possible for the United States to mobilize for the Cold War.” (Original article is from the Claremont Institute's 'American Mind' site, which I heartily recommend avoiding.)

It's illegal* for the Department of Education to have any say or influence over the curriculum used in the states. This was done to ensure that the federal government couldn't interfere with Lost Cause revisionist curriculum, among other things.

* I know, I know. To the extent that anything that's "illegal" is actually illegal right now. The Trump administration breaks a lot of laws on a daily basis. What's one more?

Yeah. My dad has a friend that asked him what was so offensive about saying the BLM has its roots in the communist manifesto? He replied that there was a much stronger case between Trump and Hitler.

Your dad should have asked his friend to explain what the Communist Manifesto says and what the BLM movement has copied from it if only to watch him sputter for a few minutes.

Probably wouldn't have sputtered. I am sure it was read somewhere that had cherry picked Q Anon levels of logic perfectly suitable for a gotcha sound bite

I haven't read the full story but I wonder if he means "at the same time?"
