Georgia was busy?

Arizona is too busy fighting the health crisis right now to worry about anything else such as homelessness.

Anyone know how to stop the porn crisis?

Grand Canyon Visitors Were Exposed to Unsafe Radiation From Buckets of Uranium for Nearly Two Decades (specifically in the museum collections building)

Buckets of Uranium ORE, an important distiction which the headlines seem to be conveniently omitting. It looks like it definitely exceeds the OSHA workplace limit, so it would be bad for people working regularly in the building. The building in question looks like an unattached storage shed, so there may not even be anyone working regularly in the building anyway. That is not at all the same as what the new stories are all implying without outright saying: That the radiation level was dangerous to tourists. That is total BS.

My teenage daughter visited that museum last year. Can I blame her sulking on the radiation now?

Yes, gamma radiation made her the Incredible Sulk.

You wouldn't like her when she's angsty.

Oh, this is gonna be a Banner day, isn’t it?

The article wrote:

Stephenson said the buckets had been placed beside a taxidermy exhibit where children sometimes sat during tours for more than 30 minutes. There was enough radiation in the buckets to expose children to levels considered unsafe by federal standards within three seconds and adults within less than 30 seconds. Stephenson said adults may have been exposed to 400 times the Nuclear Regulatory Commission health limit and children 4,000 times.

it was both OSHA and NRC limits, and it wasn't just exceeding them by a small amount. even if we assume that the NRC limit is based on how much radiation a child "worker" can be exposed to in a day, 4000 times the allowable exposure would be the equivalent of exceeding the allowable exposure by a small amount every work day for fifteen years.

I thought Killary sold it all to the North Koreans?

Even those have a motive behind them. What would Smollett's motive be to fake this.

Jussie Smollet Sees ‘Empire’ Screen Time Slashed as Questions Mount

It turned out that the two brothers who were picked up by cops, Ola and Abel Osundairo, knew Smollett, and Ola had previously appeared as an extra on Empire. They have allegedly admitted they were paid $3,500 to stage the attack.

The brothers told officials Smollett paid them the money before they briefly fled to Nigeria after the attack took place and the actor promised them an additional $500 upon their return, according to CBS Chicago.

And now a source tells CBS News that Smollett is suspected of staging the attack after being upset about a threatening racist letter, made of cutout print and sent to the show’s studio, which also depicted a man with a rope around his neck, didn’t get a “bigger reaction.”

“When the letter didn’t get enough attention, he concocted the staged attack,” a source told CBS investigative reporter Brad Edwards. CBS said other sources corroborated that information.

The Osundairo brothers told CBS: “We are not racist. We are not homophobic and we are not anti-Trump. We were born and raised in Chicago and are American citizens.”

TMZ reports the case is heading to a grand jury as early as Tuesday with the focus on a potential felony indictment against Smollett for allegedly filing a false police report.

A total and complete clusterf*ck and a cherry on top of the most mind-blowing Black History Month of my lifetime (10 days left!). Well done Jussie, you (apparent) utter, mendacious asshole.

I'm still waiting for something more official than leaks the CPD have already called uninformed and incorrect, but it certainly doesn't look good for Smollett's chances.

So they gave the homeless housing and provided healthcare as well. Healthcare costs spiked the first year of the program as people were able to get the healthcare they needed, but they declined every subsquent year. They found they could house and treat someone for about $20,000 a year whereas keeping them homeless cost the city $80,000 in healthcare and policing.

Shocking that they also gave them food (at least the elderly and ill in SF) or according to Project Open hand, increased meals from 1 to 3 a day and found that it reduced hospital visits by 60%. Of course it saved SF tons of cash. (it costs ~3500$ just for an ambulance ride in SF apparently)

I think it has often been found that helping people before they are "critical" costs less but some folks want to punish them and/or feel that helping them will cause them to continue to make bad choices (because everyone knows that a mentally ill person is choosing to not hold a job, etc.)

Did I skim too hard, or did we really forget to post that an Alabama newspaper editor called for the KKK to take over DC and lynch Democrats?

... ... I saw that headline go by on the book of faces and thought it was an Onion article.

Yeah, no it's not. I've met people who worked for the Onion; they couldn't come up with sh*t this f*cked up.

Update: The Alabama Press Association has suspended the paper and censured its editor.

I'm so tired of these emboldened A***holes

At some point the Onion is just going to have to start writing normal stories if they want to continue .

Oh, okay. Everything's okay now. Move along, nothing to see here.

FYI, now it's being reported that Smollett also staged the letter. I almost hope this is all a setup, because if not, this is legendary headassery here. Like "put it in textbooks" headassery.

Instead of using the nukes, the administration appears to have decided to sell them.

BBC: House launches probe of US nuclear plan in Saudi Arabia
Al Jazeera: Donald Trump rushing to sell Saudi Arabia nuclear technology
NYT: House Opens Inquiry Into Proposed U.S. Nuclear Venture in Saudi Arabia

WASHINGTON — Top Trump administration officials have pushed to build nuclear power plants throughout Saudi Arabia over the vigorous objections of White House lawyers who question the legality of the plan and the ethics of a venture that could enrich Trump allies, according to a new report by House Democrats released on Tuesday.

The report is the most detailed portrait to date of how senior White House figures — including Michael T. Flynn, President Trump’s first national security adviser — worked with retired military officers to circumvent the normal policymaking process to promote an export plan that experts worried could spread nuclear weapons technology in the volatile Middle East. Administration lawyers warned that the nuclear exports plan — called the Middle East Marshall Plan — could violate laws meant to stop nuclear proliferation and raised concerns about Mr. Flynn’s conflicts of interest.

Also explains why the administration is so in bed with MBS.

Remember when a Republican administration murdered and tortured hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqis who had nothing to do with 9/11 because they might do another 9/11 with the nerve gas they didn’t have?

Now they’re selling nuclear materials to the country that DID support the 9/11 attacks.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

In most administrations this would literally be the worst scandal. This one will be buried in an avalanche of other scandals.

Republicans are so f*cking hypocritical. It’s insane.

That whole deal was originally a distraction from that country who did support them anyway, so it's all just cars on the same corrupt gravy train.

Oh, good. I read about civil forfeiture cases and it always struck me as a constitutional violation. It's good to have the supreme court push back on the process.

4th amendment wrote:

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

5th amendment wrote:

No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offence to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.

It's nakedly unconstitutional, but apparently justices are okay with it through the mental gymnastics of charging inanimate objects with crimes.

MAXIMUM CLUSTERF**K.

Jussie Smollett Named Suspect By Police In Attack Probe; Subpoenas Issued

The incident was originally described as an assault that left the openly gay Smollett beaten, drenched in bleach and with a rope slung around his neck. Previously identified as the individuals in the photos of “persons of interest” in the case, the siblings Olabinjo and Abimbola Osundairo are now said to be “fully” cooperating with authorities.

The duo were seen entering the courtroom today where a recently convened Grand Jury are sitting. Almost simultaneously a series of subpoenas have gone out to all authorities to go through Smollett’s phone, financial and other records and files, a law enforcement source tells Deadline.

In this quickly unravelling situation, a CBS affiliate in the Windy City damningly has video of the Osundairo siblings apparently purchasing the materials that were used in the assault that Smollett is now seen to have been involved in the pre-planning of:

Well, that is probably the worst race-related news we'll get tod...

A Coast Guard Officer Is Accused Of Plotting A White Supremacist Terror Attack “On A Scale Rarely Seen In This Country”

A Coast Guard lieutenant stockpiled weapons and ammunition at his Maryland home in a plot to assassinate prominent Democratic lawmakers and members of the media as part of a vast white supremacist attack, federal prosecutors said.

Lt. Christopher Paul Hasson, who was assigned to Coast Guard headquarters in Washington, DC, and previously served as a marine and in the Army National Guard, was arrested Friday on suspicion of drug and firearms charges. But this week, prosecutors revealed in a court filing that he was planning a series of violent, racist crimes that went far beyond the charges he faced.

“The defendant intends to murder innocent civilians on a scale rarely seen in this country,” prosecutors said in a motion filed Tuesday. “He must be detained pending trial.”

The new allegations were first reported by the Program on Extremism at George Washington University, and prosecutors said that Hasson was a longtime white supremacist. In recent years, he stockpiled weapons and ammunition, created a hit list, and drafted an email to a neo-Nazi leader about his desire to create a white homeland, prosecutors said. It wasn’t immediately clear if Hasson sent the email or tried to enlist other white supremacists in his plans.

“The defendant is a domestic terrorist, bent on committing acts dangerous to human life that are intended to affect governmental conduct,” prosecutors said.

In particular, Hasson allegedly researched the manifesto created by Norwegian mass shooter Anders Breivik that laid out a framework for killing leaders in a “crusade” against multiculturalism, Muslims, and political correctness.

In one email draft, Hasson wrote about disrupting the food supply and starting a sniper campaign to provoke mass violence and promote white supremacy, prosecutors said. He spoke against Jews, Muslims, and white “traitors” while speaking favorably about Russia, the email draft said.

“Liberalist/globalist ideology is destroying traditional peoples esp white. No way to counteract without violence,” he wrote in the draft. “It should push for more crack down bringing more people to our side. Much blood will have to be spilled to get whitey off the couch.”

Happy Hump Day!

Prederick, I must say all this awful news you're sharing is truly horrifying, but, ah, at least your presentation is entertaining?
