I could give you all a list of suitable Greg-Like games this week. I could wax eloquent about Banano Bros.' delightful uber-retro styling, or the HTML busting title .hack//G.U. Last Recode which includes all the previous games with an additional fourth, but honestly there’s only one game that is worth my time or yours this week. Spintires: Mudrunner is the sequel/update/reboot of the phenomenal Spintires, which is a game about driving giant logging vehicles through deep mud, and which holds the uncontested title of being the Dark Souls of mundane vehicle sims.

Graphical enhancements, a fleet of new vehicles and a 50% discount for owners of the prequel make Spintires: Mudrunner my game of the week.

An odd week, this one. It seems the entire reason the past Friday was loaded with so many excellent releases in Super Mario Odyssey, Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus and ... well, I guess someone out there is playing Assassin's Creed: Origins? Anyway, I guess hose all came out last week because this week is Call of Duty week, which for some time was the week to avoid. Last year EA had the miserable lack of foresight to release Titanfall 2 between Battlefield 1 and Infinite Warfare, claiming it catered to a different audience than either game.

Which, y'know, isn't entirely wrong when comparing with EA's own Battlefield entry, but you don't put your still-relatively-new-FPS-with-a-first-time-campaign up against gradually-waning-but-still-mega-juggernaut and expect it to do well. This year, however, it feels as if Call of Duty: WWII is the overshadowed one. Even Activision's marketing has been weaker, choosing instead to lavish its attention on Destiny 2.

If it weren't DLC, I'd be choosing Final Fantasy XV: Comrades, the new co-operative content that had a rather ... troublesome demo some months ago. I also kind of want to give the pick to Bubsy: The Woolies Strike Back merely for having the audacity to exist, let alone release next to a Call of Duty.

But I played those old Bubsy games, and I regret it like a particularly bad high I got one time at the club. Call of Duty: WWII gets my pick of the week on the off chance it isn't entirely forgettable.

Call of Duty 14 WWII takes the franchise back to the war that made it. Will the Garand’s nostalgic *ping* fire you up to invade Normandy for the 12th time, soldier? Regenerating health is clearly a “modern war” thing, because health packs are back too. Newer features include a playable female character in the Nazi zombies co-op campaign and a fixed-class system for multiplayer. Perhaps the most controversial part of the game is that it not only has loot boxes, but also gives you random rewards for watching others open loot boxes. Hmm.

Beast Quest is to Breath of the Wild as methadone is to heroin, but will it be enough to stop your child jonesing for a Switch? Probably not.

Stifled is a horror game with a mechanic that’s designed to turn you all into screaming Let’s Players: You can only see through echolocation and you use your gaming mic to make the required noise.

None of the new releases appeal to me this week, but, like unexpectedly finding a classic movie on Netflix, I am drawn to 8-Bit Adventure Anthology: Volume One. It’s got a few classic ICOM adventure games from the ‘80s that I never played: the noiry Déjà Vu, the horrory Uninvited and the fantasy-y Shadowgate. Maybe it’s time to give them a look. I’m guessing there’s a hintline to call if I get stuck.

I might get Zwei at some point, but my backlog is mostly filled with Falcom titles: Cold Steel, Ys VIII, Tokyo Xanadu.

So, yeah, not interested in Zwei atm.

One of these weeks Summon Night 6 will finally come out, I just know it!

It's actually coming out this week. They finally stopped delaying it.

Just looked at the Steam page and this looks like some good ol' Falcom fun. Gonna keep my eye out for impressions.
