Post a Dungeons & Dragons Picture

I didn't know about this thread, so I posted this in the main picture thread instead:

I loved the expressions in this one. That is a beautiful piece of art, and it prompts so many questions!

I'm going to steal that and use it as the inspiration for a one-shot. Great picture.

I'm stuck on the book.

Either that's the back cover (seems unlikely the back cover would be so elaborately decorated)

or it's the front cover and the skull is upside down

or the book reads right to left.

Since we don't know what language it's in, I'm leaning to #3. Unless the picture was flipped.

That's not a decoration. It's an audiobook.

All of those are possible, because it's clearly eeeeeeeevil.

The artist posted it here and here but did not include anymore details about the backstory. Title is "Your rat is playing dead!"

As I said in the main Pictures post, the best comment I saw on reddit was, "I want to talk to your necromanager!"

Definitely this one. The red bookmark is folded down from the top, extending past the bottom of the book.

And you can tell the image hasn't been artificially flipped horizontally by examining the artist's signature in the bottom-right corner.

The skull is on a dial. Turn it and the pages within the book change.

ooh, good point. Alternatively, that skull is a decorative combination lock that's gonna keep your spells safely in your grimoire.

Caption should read "when I said I wanted to kill my nemesis dead as a dormouse, this is NOT what I meant."

Delighted to see this thread revived. It would be super cool to see pics of people's ttrpg characters if you happen to have them? <3

Here's the picture that inspired my current character!

Unfortunately, I have no idea who the artist is -- I just found it via Google Image Search.

The party from my last big Rolemaster game. This lasted in some form or another for 15-20 years, so we built up a lot of history.

From left to right, back to front:
Rose, human magician and Plasma Mage Drake, and her familiar Thorn the ferret
Celemir, Noldor Air Elemental Champion
Griffon, half-elf magent (kind of a rogue/magician) with rune magic powers
Vugdush Hirk, High Orc Paladin and Divine Minion of Humakt, the god of War and Death. (that's me!) I was playing the High Orcs more like Traveler's Ithklur species.
Teledon, Noldor Essence Alchemist
Elenwë, swashbuckling Noldor treasure hunter and Indiana Jones tribute

The game was in the GM's custom world, but with a lot of Tolkien flavor since most of the players were serious Tolkien nerds; Teledon's player worked on LOTRO and we were all early lifetime subscribers. In the early days it wasn't as defined so I rammed in some Gloranthan stuff, particularly the Orlanthi.

Characters, eeey?

Lady Esme Frey (Rime of the Frostmaiden campaign). Former noble, lost everything when she was afflicted with the Curse of Medusa, culminating in turning herself to stone to prevent herself from being burnt to death when a mob attacked her manor. Now a redemption paladin of Lathander, working to help rid the influence of Auril in Icewind Dale and, hopefully, find a cure for her affliction in the process.

Iseabail "Ghost" Gowdie (Courts of the Shadow Fey) - Retired solider and spy and accomplished artificer. Repented her former life working as a 'spy for hire' for anyone who'd pay enough after one such mission ended with the death of an entire household. Now she works for herself, entirely focused on sabotaging and bringing those same corrupt nobles to justice. Currently, she's trying to figure out why the city she is in has suddenly come under the influence of chaotic fey influences, along with her faithful Northern Lynx construct, Eithrig
