2018 NBA Catch-All - LeBron Fallout Edition

Pages

I'm more excited about the start of an NBA season more than I have been for many years. Tonight's doubleheader on TNT is a perfect way to start the season, with LeBron vs. Kyrie and the Splash Brothers vs. one off the new super teams in Houston.

But what made me come looking for this thread was this prediction by Mina Kimes.

Cavs are not good enough to take the Warriors to 7 games, IMO.

Agreed but we'll see how all of the new pieces work. The Cavs could fall apart (get #3 or #4 seed, lose in second round) or could be great.

I would be surprised if Embiid plays 50 games.

Barring injury I think the Warriors coast to 65+ wins, coast through the playoffs and don't go more than 5 games in any series.

I think in the East either the Cavs, Celtics, or Wizards will be the #1 seed. And in the West I think the Spurs will be #2.

What a crap start to the year. Poor Gordon.

Suck. That was horrible.

Yeah, Hayward injury sucks.

The Cavs will be better than last year if Isaiah Thomas is healthy.

Glad the season is back. Need a break from college football and NFL since both my teams suck

I thought I created a thread. Did the forums eat it?

Search sucks. There was definitely an NBA 2k18 thread

Maybe I though I also created an NBA thread, but it was only the 2k thread. Weird.

That injury was horrific. So sad for Hayward.

Pro tip for any cord cutters. I was trying to figure out how to watch this season without paying for cable and without buying League Pass and then being annoyed by the national blackouts. Sling TV is great. Maybe I’m late to the party, but I just found out about it. Listening to the game while driving around tonight.

DS, FWIW I found PS Vue to be better than Sling, less dropouts and better picture quality (at least for me), and you can pause/rewind on more channels. It has a free trial if you want to give it a shot to compare. I think it is $5 more a month last time I looked.

Thanks. I’ll consider that. Does it work on phones? Are there apps outside of PS4? Sometimes my PS4 isn’t connected. Only the Apple TV or Chromecast.

New (and happy) Vue subscriber here, too.

No, you don't need a Playstation to run Vue. I set it up via my home PC and can stream the Vue from my PC or my mobile phone (through an app) to my TV via Chromecast. The Vue has a DVR, but make sure you record the show *after* the game in case the game goes over.

Base package is $40/month and includes ESPN and Fox and NBC channels (but not the Fox regional channel, unless I missed it, which means no Hornets for me). For $5 more a month you can upgrade to the sports package that includes the NBA and NFL channels.

One thing about the Vue, though: I think you have to be on your home network to watch it. At home, though, you can watch on whatever -- phone, browser, TV, etc.

I use it on Rokus, not sure about other things or the phone.

Did they raise the price recently? I swear last year it was $30 a month.

EDIT: Yeah a quick google shows they raised the price in July when they added local channels. Personally I would rather they left it the way it was, I can get local channels OTA already.

I nearly cut the cord, but Charter Spectrum made a hail mary of a deal. I kept saying no to their pleas to stays an offers until they offered me a deal $11 a month. I get all of my local channels, plus any 10 national cable channels of my choice. Plus, they gave me 30 days to alter the channels if I change my mind on what I want. The deal goes to $23 after a year. There is no contract, so I can still drop it whenever I want. They also threw in HBO for a year.

The upside is that I took ESPN, ESPN2, and TNT. So I will get a lot of basketball.

Considering how well the Celtics came back last night, leading for much off the 4th quarter until LeBron took over in the last minute, can Boston still make a run at the number one seed in the East? They looked absolutely done after the injury, letting Cleveland just dominate the snot out of them. But they regrouped pretty damn well.

Stevens is a good coach, I expect them to still be a top 4 team in the East. #1 though not so sure.

Regular season really doesn't matter that much in the NBA. Whatever place they end up in the east the bottom line is without Hayward they're a 1st or 2nd round playoff team.

I cut the cord a few years back. I went with Sling a couple times for March madness and GOT HBO add on. They're OK but can have some connection issues. They're pretty aggressive in trying to retain customers (several cards featuring cute pugs and two free Roku's ).
I've done Vue and DirectTV now, neither gave me the bang for the buck I wanted.
Currently I'm with Fubo with their summer promotional, $20/month. It gives me FS1,FS2, NFL, NBA, BTN,Pac12, NBCNW(csnnw) plus a lot of other fluff. I'll probably stay with them through the NBA season.

HEY GUYS WANA HEAR ABOUT MY FANTASY TEAM?

yea... didn't think so.

Regardless I have Kristaps and Russell. I'll be engaged in a 82 regular game season.

I encourage it for anyone who does want to pay attention to the season but needs that extra nudge. Of the fantasy sports out there I find its the perfect balance between Baseball and Football. Not absolute crap shoot (Football) not a full time job investment (Baseball).

Also has a great balance of you get allot of great players to keep up with until things really fall off a cliff.

I dont know who Joe Ingles is but I'm going to be stalking him esp if hes knocking down +2 3's a night.

What service are playing fantasy through? I don't think I've played fantasy hoops since college...15 years ago. But you're right, it'd help to pay attention to the season.

Ramon Sessions was an awful backup for the Hornets last year and he's the Knicks starter this year?

Tanking isn't dead yet!

Yahoo.

Im pretty sure thats the only thing people use Yahoo for anymore.

The Lakers are so boring.

Did we get Melo at the 4 tonight? I missed that game.

Warriors starting 1-2. Time to panic yet?

Not unless this trajectory continues to 5-10.

Giannis is such an animal. Ugh.

Wiggins totally didn't deserve that max extension.

Thanks for the heads up. What an amazing finish.

The Suns fire their coach after 3 games. What a mess of a franchise.

And now Bledsoe is on his way out.

Interesting Cavs-Wiz game tonight. LeBron is at 57 points with a minute to go, John Wall has 12. Cavs are only up 7.

Makes me feel like in a seven game series, Wiz might stand a chance. James would run out of steam at this pace and Wall wouldn't have more than one awful game.

We're 10 games into the season for most teams, what are your biggest surprises?

For me, I did not expect the Cavs to drop off so much. It is still early, but not that early. This might be the year they fall apart and go out in the 1st or 2nd round. I think Lebron is out the door already, and Lue is gone a year later.

Also in the East, the Magic are looking funky and good! I hope they can keep their lineup magic happening. They've been so bad for so long. The Celtics are looking better than I expected after Hayward went down. Stevens is such a good coach.

In the West, the Spurs are 6-4 and having a negative point differential. I assume they'll be there in the end but they are looking a bit mediocre so far. The Kings are terrible like expected, but Dallas is worse than I expected. What hope do they have? What is their plan? Just seems to be floundering.

In New Orleans, Cousins has been playing awesome so far, his averages are 29, 14 and 6, plus 2 blocks and 2 steals per game. I really hope he and Davis carry this team to the playoffs and make a good impact. I'd like to see them do well. I think they would be better if they stopped taking so many 3s. Cousins is taking over 7 per game and he doesn't even shoot 33%.
