NHL 2017-18

Nash to Boston. Good bye Nash, you will be missed. Though I am content with the high picks the Rangers have been receiving with the recent trades.

Anybody else catch the Pittsburgh/Philly game last night? Quite embarrassing. Now I'm really regretting buying those playoff tickets for game 3.

I can’t believe they played Elliot after missing two months. G and Coots look as if they used up everything in the final game of the season and besides Ghost (even with his -4) and Provorov the D is lackluster at best.

Hopefully they’ll bring up Hagg for some playoff experience.

You spoke too soon, Slugworth! Good comeback by the Flyers in the second game!

Really enjoying this season of the NHL. Lots of really fun teams to watch. Though I am a bit sad because even though I'm back in the States, I'm still having to watch the games on 1 day delay because NHL.tv sucks in the playoffs -- every game is blacked out.

I'm just popping in to say that my CBJs have a 2-0 lead on the Caps.

Just wanted to pop in and say I'm pulling for Tampa Bay!

Hopefully we get the good Flyers for game 4. I wouldn't have been upset if they lost a close game, but they're just getting destroyed. While they were nowhere near as bad in game 3 as they were in game 1, they are just way too inconsistent. At least my wife and I had fun in Philly before we went to the game.

Heck I jinxed that game!

Knights take Kings. Checkmate. Or...

A team built over a weekend with scraps and sweeteners moves on comfortably to the 2nd round of the playoffs. All the Vegas players who were unwanted by their old teams must be feeling pretty great right now.

Jonathan Quick with a .947 save percentage. Vegas scores only 7 goals. Vegas sweeps series in 4 games.

That was a ridiculous defensive war. Fleury with a .977 save percentage.

to be fair, a lot of those players were very much wanted by their old teams but got screwed by the overly generous draft protection rules.

and it's pretty hard to consider Fleury as "scraps"

Point taken on the wanted part but Fleury had to waive his NMC to even be exposed in the expansion draft.

But I'd hardly call teams exposing their 8th-best eligible forward, 4th-best defenceman, and backup goalie (or 5th-best forward, 5th-best defenceman, and backup goalie) overly generous. Good depth is still cheap and easy to find in the NHL player market if you aren't obsessed with size, toughness, and character. Most of the guys teams lost shouldn't have been that hard to replace.

Vegas has a lot of decent players because of the expansion draft rules but it's not as if they landed any elite talent (Fleury's always been a above-average to good goalie with years ranging from meh to great).

I believe a big factor in their success is that, unlike most teams trotting out the Alzners and Polaks of the worlds they don't have many bad players. Any team in the league should be able to do that. Even a terribly run team in the Habs has been able to stumble into the really good depth player like Paul Byron or Phillip Danault for basically nothing.

There should be about 20 GMs fired this summer with Vegas showing how bad all the Hockey Men are at managing their teams.

compared to previous expansion drafts it was incredibly generous.

Dale Tallon is the only GM that should be fired in relation to Vegas's performance this season.

Wow, I didn't realize how bad I was out of hockey. I was watching a game the other day and one of the teams was CBJ. I said to myself who the hell is CBJ. Well it appears the Columbus Blue Jackets have been around since 2000!

Welcome back!

As for Vegas I'm not sure how to read it.

It's surprising they are good. This good though definitely makes you scratch your head.

If you told someone last October they wouldn't believe you. If you told them Shipachyov is also not a contributing factor and actually screws off in November they would be even more confused.

It's weird seeing Winnipeg #2 in the season standings. The city here is going nuts.

Playoffs have been awesome thus far.

I'm hoping to attend a Stanley Cup game here in Vegas this season.

But first, we must dispatch the Sharks who made quick work of one of the worst offensive teams in the playoffs.

Go Knights Go!

BTW, everyone here expected them to be good this year.

And it's your damn goalie's fault.

Hahaha. He's been great thus far. I'm just glad he's healthy. We started the season going through goalies like our President goes through staff. Thought I was going to have to suit up before the season was up.

If not for Quick between the pipes for the Kings, that series would have been a blow out. Quick stopped so many would-be goals, it was maddening. Hate the Kings, but I respect Quick.

That whole series was about us shoving #8's words back in his mouth.

We might be fast n flashy, but if you want physical, we got that too.

Quite the statement Vegas made last night.

We all know I'm joyless but even I'm excited about the Nashville-Winnipeg series, I'm even planning on watching the game tonight. It should be a good one.

Scored the same number of goals in 1 game as they did the whole series against the Kings.

Makes Quick's performance look even better.

Kings ran into a freight train otherwise they may have had a real shot at the Cup. Kind like the Canucks in 2012 against the Kings...

Jimmy Garoppolo just did a intro for the San Jose sharks Legion.

How dare you post this.

I hope DeShone Kizer starts games for the Packers this year.

As someone who watched him, I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemies. I wouldn't wish that on the Steelers.

Woohoo Lightning!

I wonder how much second guessing there is now about the Pens putting Fleury up for drafting to Vegas.

NO THREEPEAT!

with Crosby coughing up the turnover on the elimination goal

my schadenfreude level is at maximum

None. The main reason was Fleury’s contract and Murray has been far better the last three seasons. Hell, Fleury has always been inconsistent. The Penguins have played A LOT of hockey. I was amazed they even made it this far.
