GWJ Secret Stan 2017 Edition: Now With Fifty Percent More Wassel

Okay, my maniacal merrymakers. I'm leaving at the butt crack of oh god it's still dark tomorrow morning to spend Christmas with my in-laws on their farm near Springfield, Missouri. Internet availability is spotty on a good day, so I will not be as reachable. If you have pressing issues, let me know beforehand. I will do my best to check messages when I can (probably from the local Starbucks when I make a morning coffee run), but I can't promise quick replies. I'll be back Tuesday night, and will dive back in then.

I love each and every one of you people. There are few things in my year that are as consistently wonderful as seeing a gaggle of Goodjers fling generosity and merriment across the oceans and mountains at one another. I'm proud to be a part of this, and hope you all have a wonderful holiday!

Make sure you take the package off your front porch before you leave...

Or at least be kind enough to box up some feces for the crooks.

Good point, they'd probably rather have the feces than a box full of scorpions

FTFY! HTH, HAND!

Stanta - you nailed it. Pics to be up shortly - but gifts were great and VERY appreciated!

Holy sh*t.

Growat, I show the package was delivered yesterday, if you could confirm that would be awesome so I don't have to be paranoid worried about some scrooge stealing your packages because 'tis the season and all that.

Yes, thank you!

I'm going to restrain myself and put them under the tree until Christmas day!

Edit: my photo posting skills are poor.

Ummmm. So yeah. Remember a few pages back when it was suggested that I should have a bat signal?

Turns out, Skraut began plotting off of that. He does not have access to a prohibitively expensive piece of Batman swag. He does, however, have access to a 3D printer.

So no, I didn't get a Bat Signal.

I GOT A GODDAMN TRICHY SIGNAL.

IMAGE(https://i.imgur.com/rq5jGFb.jpg)

That silhouette is my &$%$& FORUM AVATAR. It's a custom made Trichy Signal with my forum avatar. I'm speechless. Although not quite as speechless as I was when I found a remote control in the box. Because Skraut didn't just give me a Trichy signal, he gave me a freaking wireless remote controlled multicolor light up Trichy Signal.

IMAGE(https://i.imgur.com/Ojt9NZw.jpg)

"But, Trichy," I can hear you asking. "The only thing keeping that from being the greatest freaking gift in the history of all time, a gift to rival Prometheus descending from his celestial domain to grant humanity the gift of flame itself, a gift to make the Statue of Liberty and Resolute Desk combined seem as a turd in a punch bowl, is the fact that you lack the option to present an actual Bat signal to the sky. That was, in fact, the request from so many pages back. Skraut did well, but he has fallen short of perfection. Like so many in history, he has flown too close to the gift giving sun to watch his wings melt and send him plummeting to earth in a puff of feathers and hubris."

To which I say NAY! Skraut sees your bat signal. He raises you a Trichy signal. And then, just to really drive his gift giving mastery home, HE INCLUDED INTERCHANGABLE FACES INCLUDING A STAN SIGNAL.

IMAGE(https://i.imgur.com/GOxyUYy.jpg)

The box also included some 3D printed snowmen to spread some holiday cheer, and a really cool third gift that for reasons that shall become clear in the future, I cannot share. But DAYUM, SON. That's some next level sh*t right there.

Thank you so much. This has a permanent spot on my desk.

Ffs skraut. Wow.

Skraut, you're awesome.

It was the least I could for all the work Trichy does to make sure this holiday cheer happens

... no words. That is beyond. Nicely done.

That is pretty cute/rad/awesome

That's awesome, Skraut.

Damn, Skraut!

So, Skraut sent me an amazing box of 3D printed art. Holleee sh*t I couldn’t believe what all I got. There are swaths of family and friends that haven’t put nearly as much thought behind a gift for me, much less an entire box full.

The box arrived with a very helpful Goodjer icon letting me know I wasn’t another Amazon kerfuffle.

First up is a Fallout Mini Nuke. I’ll find out later that it’s actually painted and sealed so I can use it as a friggin’ flower pot.

Spoiler:

A chibi 2B statue! It has some fantastic detail that the camera won’t do justice to. I’ve been wanting a figure of her since the game was announced :).

A Witcher Emblem!

Junkrat! He's in my top 3 played Overwatch characters. I really like the pose on this one.

Spoiler:

A Pacman ghost, Reinhardt’s hammer, and 2B’s stand! I forgot to take a picture of her on the stand. Skraut must have used a special filament for the ghost because it’s incredibly delicate and has a glowing sheen to it. Reinhardt’s hammer is apparently the sole survivor of many attempts at a figure that just wouldn’t cooperate. Thank you for trying, and I’m very pleased to have the pencil topper.

Batman Buddha. Buddha Batman? Anyway, it’s really cool. I couldn’t get a picture to show just how fine the detail on this is. You can see some of the scrollwork on the base that subtly on all his clothing.

Spoiler:

A TARDIS! But not just any TARDIS. It was filled with /something/, and after an embarrassingly long time, I managed to get it open without breaking anything. Inside was a full goddamn board game.

A dice tower! I actually don’t have one in spite of my collection. I love how the catchers fold up.

Spoiler:

I stared at these for a few minutes trying to figure out what they were. I finally recognized the C’s on the side and realized they were Carcassonne tile holders. Super neat.

Now I got a box that can only be described as hundreds of meticulously crafted bits. I can’t imagine the time and effort to make all these. At first I didn’t recognize that the trains were Ticket to Ride size, and they look really darn cool. Not pictured here are Tokaido coins and some very cool replacement meeples for Lords of Waterdeep. You can see those in the album below. I suspected the hexes were for Eclipse, but I didn’t notice until later that every single one has tiny magnets embedded on each side. WHO HAS TIME TO PUT TINY MAGNETS IN DOZENS OF HEXAGONS?! I couldn’t believe it. I haven’t played Kingdomino, yet, but I suspected the castles and mans were for them. Skraut was kind enough to include the game on TOP of all this.

A Fillennium Malcom! This thing is super detailed and heavvvy. It’s going to fly to work with me tomorrow (for some reason all my Star Wars stuff is there.)

Pickle Riiiiick

Alright, I thought this last one was just a snowman. After reading the letters, it turns out it’s a maze. A damn maze I tell you. After trying for longer than I’d like to admit, I got it open and found a key for Black Mesa! I came to PC gaming pretty late, and never got to play the first Half Life. I feel lucky being able to experience it for the first time this way.

Thank you again, Skraut, for the incredibly thoughtful gifts. I cannot fathom the time it took you to get all this, not to mention the A+ stalking you did to find out what to make.

Here's a link to all the pictures. Including bonus notes and sources for the printing.

Jesus. Skraut wins Christmas.

Sorry I didn't get the pics up tonight but my Stanta (And all the Stantas) also win Christmas. Everyone who plays is amazing.

Holy wow, those are amazing! The snowman is genius! I'm in awe!

You're very welcome. The printer was more or less going non-stop from the time Trichy handed out assignments. I went from 3D printing newbie coming home many days to a big pile of molten plastic, and worrying I'd have nothing to send you, to learning at least a few things about how to get a good print going. Though the printer is awesome at humbling you when you think you've mastered how to use it.

The other thing in Trichy's box that he didn't mention was he received the same Eclipse tile holders, since he was a fan of the game and could tell me how many I should make and send. When you glue in almost 200 tiny magnets and can barely move your fingers because of all the glue on them, what's another 200?

Enjoy!

Thank goodness, it is over! I have been sitting quietly on the Skraut project since he shared photos of the Trichy and Stan symbols a week ago. He mentioned the Reinhardt attempts and enjoying the printer, but this is more than next level stuff here. Absolutely amazing stuff. What you described Skraut does not come close to what you produced. Going to bed now with a smile on my face.

The gift was sent Trichy, but it was really a gift to all of us. Thanks!

Oh - my - gosh. Congrats Skraut, this is just Bananas. Waking up to this is awesome.

Blooming heck, 'mazin.

woah! that's crazy-good stuff Skraut :O

A question for those more sophisticated than I: What goes well with Pate de Campagne. I've only ever had american southern style chicken liver pate.

Chablis.

To my Stan - I have a package waiting at the post office, I will be picking it up in a couple of hours. Whether it's from you or from one of my numerous other Christmas orders I don't know but I will update later today.

Melba toasts.

Toast some sliced bread. Get a bread knife and slice horizontally through the centre of the toast to expose the uncooked inside of the slice (sounds difficult but actually easy and just time consuming). Place under the broiler to cook the inside of the toast. Let them cool and cover them in pate.

Serve with cornichons (tiny french sour pickles) and a room temperature brie.

With some added sliced french Sausicson (salami) and some sundried tomatoes it is a go-to meal in our house when we can't be bothered with cooking

You are welcome. I realized after I shipped the package that I neglected to include the card indicating my identity! Oops.

Oh, should probably also note for the record that the spirits are cask strength. I'm pretty sure it says it on the label. but well... sometimes a person just has to have a drink, and who reads labels anyhow?! I had to BREAK THE LAW to send it to you, but I'm glad it sounds like they arrived safely (that wine shipper is a really handy thing for shipping bottles!).

Wow that is some amazing detailed work! Batman Buddha

The pate: a tasted a bit with a bit of toast and a sour pickle slice, it was pretty amazing. I'm definitely going to get fancy with it with wine and cheese and french style pickles and homemade melba toasts after the holidays.

Also the faintly orange flavored short bread cookies were amazing with my coffee this morning.

Firstly, Skraut, wow that is some amazing 3D printing work! We just picked up a 3D printer at work, and you have given me some amazing ideas for things to try.

Second, my Stanta's gifts have been delivered, and they are great! All beer-related of course, which is perfect.

The boxes. More than one! The big box itself was a bit of a spoiler I must say, but that's okay.

Spoiler:

And here's me in all my pajama pants glory holding what was inside. Bonus for everyone, you get to see me surrounded by boxes and stuff since we are moving to our new house next week and the packing has already begun.

Spoiler:

Beer brewing is going to be so much nicer with this Fermonster! Perfect timing since in the new house my brewing operation will be able to expand far more easily than in the apartment. Can't wait to get started!

Second box contained some interesting candies that I had never heard of.

Spoiler:

IMAGE(http://www.damoweb.com/random/yay1.jpg)

Hop candies, what? At first you may be like, whoa wait that sounds terrible, but in fact they are really good. Or at least for a huge beer fan such as myself, they are really good.

Thank you Stanta, whoever you are!

Hop candy is awesome! My wife got me those a few years back. Same initial thought. Great beer gifts
