It is so hard to animate faces well. They didn't nail it but if the rest of the gameplay is good, puzzles are interesting and story is strong I will be very happy.

Didn't expect to be the top post on a new page. I hate it when you have to go back to the last page to see what someone is talking about so here it is again

Avowed Game Overview | Xbox Direct 2024

Visions of Mana Game Overview

Dang, Indiana Jones looks WAY better than I assumed it would. Definitely something to keep an eye on this year.

Even though it is what I was expecting given the developer, I’m not super crazy about Indiana Jones being first person…

Avowed looks like it will be fine. I like Obsidian a fair bit but I felt like their presentation was the least interesting. What they shared just seemed like normal things that you would expect from the game.

Yah the Avowed one left me underwhelmed. I mean I am glad they have something to show after years of crickets. Didn't they have a third person option in Outer Worlds?

They are a developer I have some faith in so far they haven't let me down so I am optimistic it will be good.
But it does just look like a Skyrim mod.

I thought Avowed looked great. Derivative maybe but if this is Obsidian's take on Elder Scrolls I’m here for it.

Also, I LOVE first person games, but it’s definitely weird that Indiana Jones is in first person. It just seems wrong to me. With climbing, jumping, swinging, fist fighting, etc I have some concerns about what I saw.

Yeah, I like Obsidian and Avowed looked good… I just thought their presentation was kind of weird compared to the others. They showcased that a quest had multiple outcomes, for example, and my reaction was “well, yeah, duh…” I don’t know, maybe there’s just less to be surprised about with it, which is fine. But anyway, I like their games better than Bethesda’s, so even if it looks somewhat like Elder Scrolls, I expect I’ll like Avowed better. And the Pillars of Eternity setting is neat.

In case you were wondering who's the voice of Indiana Jones. All right, what characters from my childhood can't he voice?

I agree! and I LOVE the Indiana Jones franchise, but the fact that it looks 1st person really really is a deal breaker for me. I would have loved for it to be like uncharted

I was also really disappointed to see Indiana Jones was first person. I'll probably still try it via Game Pass, but I have never enjoyed first person melee combat in any game, and nothing from the footage shown made me think it would be any better here.

In the Developer Direct, Machinegames made a point of saying that it is first person most of the time, but it pulls back to 3rd person for environmental traversal, some puzzles, and of course cinematics.

I'm with Dyni when it comes to first person melee combat, though. The whole arms-flailing-about-at-screen-sides thing really doesn't do it for me.

Sad sad sad.
It is a personal preference. But that the the MAIN REASON i haver never liked and never will metroid PRIME games. This game should have been like uncharted imo

I don't know. First person punching a Nazi's face in has to be worth the $70 buy-in for a lot of people.

Really looking forward to this

Yeah I see why they want to pull out to 3rd sometimes but I am wondering if that will be disorienting. Definitely curious about impressions on this one. And count me in on melee in 3rd person = not fun.

On a positive note, I was glad to hear it sounds like they’ve rebuilt Hellblade’s combat from the ground up. I remember the first game feeling kind of awkward.

I trust they'll make the perspective switches work, and the first-person fisticuffs. They made it work beautifully when they made Riddick way back when.

The Avowed key art image is something special. I don't know if the rest of the game will match up to it, but there's something about that image that really tweaks my interest.

Avowed is having me seriously consider a laptop upgrade. The key art is a big reason LOL. In all seriousness, that sort of design sensibility/expertise is so often absent from games it makes me very confidant about the game delivering something unique and special.

They pointed out on the RebelFM podcast that Machinegames is staffed by a number of ex Starbreeze people and they did pretty good on the Riddick game with the perspective changes.
