Into the Breach - The CURRENT game from the developers of FTL - Catch All

Dug back in for a few hours last night. Found 2 of the 4 pilots I was missing. Won some custom squad games pretty easily. Just one more achievement coin away from unlocking the final squad.

Love this thing.

Got frozen squad unlocked, so that's all the main squads. Got 1 of the missing 2 pilots I had left.

Beat game with 4 islands finally using frozen squad. Bethany with shield is pretty cool on that ice mech.

Now it looks like a long grind to get specific achievements for squads or overall to get 25 more coins. Not exactly looking forward to the grind but the game has been a lot of fun to this point.

I noticed they made a change in the gear. You can now use any gear on any mech it just cost more energy if the gear wasn't design for the mech.

That has always been the case, I believe.

So now that it’s on a platform I play, gotta ask: if I hated FTL, is there a chance I’d like this?

Yes. FTL and Into the Breach are not very similar. I much prefer Breach.

If you like giant mechs and puzzles, then you will probably like Into the Breach.

Aw dammit. Do I double dip?

I loved FTL and quickly grew bored of Into The Breach. That's not what you asked for, but it's all I have to give!

I picked this up for Switch. I was enthralled for exactly 2 days. I beat it with 3 squads and I'm totally done playing. I feel like I got my $15 from it but it didn't grab me like FTL.

Nice job! Any tips for a beginner?
I’m not looking for a 100 Hour romance with this game. 2-5 days sounds perfect.

Only tip is don't be embarrassed to start out on easy difficulty to get the hang of it.

Very much this. Also, understand it is okay to lose while you're learning the game or while learning a new squad. Take the lumps, find a pilot who's skills mesh with what you like to do (or the particular mech squad you're on) and enjoy.

A tip I got when I started that really helped me, is to move your all mechs before your first attack, because you can undo a move without penalty but not an attack. You can't always do it that way, but it really helped me cut down on the, "Oh that did not go the way I thought it was going to go!" moments.

RPS does lists pretty well, and while people always argue about the order, it's hard to argue with the totality of those 50 games. Thanks for posting that JR.

They also update them on the reg, so they capture the latest-and-greatest. I went through a bunch of their lists in genres I was exploring and populated my wishlist.

That strategy list is an odd duck though. I flick through it, and some of those games I know I will (or already have) lost hours upon hours to, and others I know will (or have) bounced right off me. I guess that's a reflection of how many subgrenres "strategy" captures. RTS is a very different game from tactics, which is very different again from 4X.

And RTT, and miniatures, and abstract wargames... Too many things get wrapped into that "strategy" label. The worst aspect of it is seeing games like Combat Mission or turn-based tactical fantasy games described as "strategy". It is to cringe.
