GWJ's Racing Dorks

One more and then I can go back to not practicing.

I can't let my family stop me from winning the coveted Trophy-With-Domano's-Face-On-It again!

I liked it better with the typo.

As long as the aforementioned wine is in the league-approved plastic sports bottle, I'm fine with this.

Looks like a normal race for me.

Did I do that?

There are some "inconsistencies" to that replay....

No wonder all the reviewers say that Project Cars is the most incredibly detailed and realistic racing simulation ever.

The Racing Dorks will be playing Raceroom Racing Experience (RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRE) for season 5. Come join us.

Sounds like fun - What content are you planning on running and when do the races happen?

We use an organiser to pick out dates when the largest numbers of drivers can run, which usually works out to be once a month or twice every six weeks. Something like that.

Having a racing night usually leads to us all getting excited and wanting to get the next one lined up immediately, then finding life means we have to wait a couple weeks at least for the chance to maybe get double figure drivers on the grid.

When they do happen, races are 9pm Eastern and we have two in a night. Race two is a reverse grid of the race one finish.

As for content, right now it seems like we'll be racing the 2013 touring cars, (because it's the year that offers an RWD car as well rather than strictly FWD), around various European tracks.

More info is on the slack and you can get an invite to that by sending a PM to Toph 513.

Project Cars 2 is 60% off ($US 24) until July 8. I know it's hard to beat free (RRRRRREEEEEEEEE), but damn.

That said, has anyone played PC2 with a controller and can you say whether it's actually playable? There's no way I'm getting a wheel on this desk. I have seen a *lot* of complaints online about the controller being basically unusable even with trying all the settings people have come up with. I don't want to spent $24 just to get frustrated.

I feel like PCars 2 is more difficult to drive than PCars. Then again I had many hours of PCars by the time I played 2 so, maybe it was "different" and I just need to learn it. Maybe the fact that I've put more time into PCars than 2 since 2 came out is telling. That's not counting Racing Dorks.

Season 4 starts on the 1st. Get excited!

I was excited until I read that I get some sort of points for knocking you off the road.

Looks like I got some guaranteed points on the first then. Wait...Do I get the same points for taking myself out?

Only if done in a comedic fashion, and you have footage.

It's touring cars - there's a penalty if you don't hit anyone.

There's a difference between a gentle pat on the butt and inserting an entire car up there, though.

I should probably apologise to travokk then.

Yeah, he does enjoy the entire car up there.

Or at least lead off with a kiss.

T E A M L A D A G R A N T A took care of all of that.

First Mav kissed him and then, the Bismarck insertion.

Well, at least I'm not bad at these cars. I'm RRRRRREEEal bad.

I don't think I've made it a lap without hitting something not on the road.

I'll go practice some more by mowing the lawn.

I'd like to race with you all, but don't feel like taking out the pack. I'll look into racing room and see if I can get about.

Taking out the pack is part of being a racing dork. Every thing is on sale in RRRRRRE right now, so it's a good time to jump in.

Seriously, join now. I can't drive in these computer games and they let me in. As long as you aren't taking people out on purpose, you just get pointed and laughed at when people watch the post-race videos. Buy now while the cars are cheap!

Edit: and don't worry about missing the first race, or any race for that matter.

100% this. If we stress anything with our little Racing Dorks groups it's that we absolutely are in it for the fun of just getting together every few weeks and race. We have a point system and a "championship" just to give a tiny goal, first and foremost we just want everyone to have fun. We have such a wide enough range of skill in the current group that you can always find someone to compete with.

This is a pinned message on the Slack, but I thought I'd add it here for anyone who might miss that...

Some things to remember for tonight if you haven't done this yet :

1) Make sure you set a button to call for a pit stop. Telling your crew you're coming in will save you about two seconds on a stop

2) Make sure you set a button for your pit lane speed limiter. Unlike PCars, RRRE expects you to run the pitlane yourself and you will get a penalty for speeding.

3) At this circuit the FWD cars may only need to change front tyres. If you want to do this, set up a pit strategy with whatever fuel you need and only the front tyres selected to change.

4) The game will display fuel in laps, but the race is in time. You will need to do math on how many laps a 20 minute race is going to take.

5) When the game rolls into the race session, you'll be at a menu where you can make last-second changes. You must click RACE to go to the grid. If you don't, you'll start in the pits.
