GWJ's Racing Dorks

Pages

The primary reason I'm making this thread is so the rest of the GWJ community can keep up-to-date with Racing Dorks Racing League, but this thread can also be about all things racing. That new racing game that may not deserve it's own thread, or that real world Motorsport that maybe only two Goodjers watch. Discuss it here.

So, what is Racing Dorks Racing League? Well, it's a bunch of mostly Goodjers that like racing games. We get together on pre-planned nights and have a thrash in [current racing game]. That's it really. Right now we are on season [current reason number]. We have our own rules and keep track of points scored.

Right now we have a total of 16 racers and we are always welcome to have more people join us. We would also like a crowd. Someone is usually always streaming and we want to invite anyone who can't join us in the races to watch.

Something I personally would actually like to see are commentators. Someone that can stream the event and talk over it. Last year we had a race commentated by our own NSMike and I found it really entertaining to watch. I would love to have someone that can do that every race.

Our second Race of Season three is on Tuesday 9/19. We will be racing at Silverstone National.

The commentator idea is brilliant. Would love to see someone do that.

Just going by the title I imagined this.

We do sometimes race cars with three wheels, yes.

We just had our Racing Dorks Season Two Trophy Ceremony this weekend.

Get excited. Race 2 is tomorrow!

Who plans on streaming the race tonight? I may be able to do it if I need to.

I downloaded OBS a while back, but haven't tooled around with it yet. Doubt I'll have time tonight...

I could be interested in this, but...

a) I am a bit of a racing game noob, and
b) I guess you are all in the US, so scheduling might be difficult for me.

I see steam has a Project Cars 2 in the store, but you play on the original is that right?

For now we're just racing with the original pCars, yeah. Our current season just started (this is race 2 of 9) and we race about once every two weeks. So, we'll probably be done with this season by January, I guess? From there I think we'll probably make a decision on whether to keep with pCars1 or if we'll switch to 2.

Also, just to set your mind at ease we are called Racing Dorks for a reason--we do not take the racing too seriously. No one here is expecting 100% perfection when racing--you're going to crash. And you will probably bump someone accidentally, that's just a fact of life (especially with pCars weird netcode doing interesting things). We're also not about tweaking setups or anything like that--we just run with default settings on the car. What we are about is having a drink or two while driving cars that go real fast.

As for scheduling, our races start at 9PM in the Eastern time zone whenever we get a majority of people available to race. So maybe that ends the conversation right there.

Short story--this crew is about having fun and we just use a "season" with points as an excuse to get together and try to keep a car on the track for a couple of hours.

My goal going in is to cross the finish line with all 4 wheels attached, and a minimum, but usually non-zero number of spinouts. Hardcore, I am not.

It sounds awesome but 2am is not really do-able, especially when I tend to stay up late watching NFL on a Sunday too. Shame, but maybe some euro-goodjers might be interested.

We have two Brits in the league, but we were committed enough that we moved to the US just to make the timezones work.

I mean, if I'm not going to go the extra mile, I really don't deserve to be a part of it.

Most race nights tend to fall on Sunday. There is the occasional oddball night, though. Maybe you can give up the NFL for racing? I did and haven't looked back.

According to the photographic prove provided above, you do not always reach your goals, eh?

Well yeah, sure, but that wasn't my fault. The wall jumped out onto the track and hit me.

They didn't make the sand trap big enough to prevent the wall from getting through. It happens sometimes. You live you learn.

I'm still not sure how I managed to lose a wheel but NOT the nose cone or wing.

I'm glad someone was finally able to catch him!

Here are the lap times from tonight.

Purple means fastest time and fastest time gets one point.

This link should point to the archive once it's done processing. It'll just take a bit for youtube to chew on it.

Current Standings

It's one point for a fast lap, so those standings are corrected to give Lupus a bit more of a lead, 46-43.

Weather was fun tonight...
