Is this an abnormal year with the amount of players holding out all the way until the start of the season.

I don't remember a season where so many players are mentioned as still hold outs? I also don't like the term tbh. Implies that they are supposed to and are obligated to play.

You rang?

So I'm going to the Vikings-Bucs game here in week 3. I needed a different jersey; I felt like I couldn't be rocking the Ronde or Derrick Brooks jersey anymore. I needed new or very old, and new is, well, ugly. So I hit Ebay. I mean, it's a bit used and chipped up, but I HAD TO HAVE IT.

Holdouts used to be a much bigger deal. Camp holdouts used to be much more frequent - hell, Walter Jones would hold out just so that he didn't have to go to training camp.

These days, contract timing is so regimented that extensions are practically on a schedule. Also, part of the deal that cemented the rookie wage scale was also the limitation of rookie contract lengths. No more tying a guy into his rookie deal for six years - now if you're a 1st rounder, it's 4 years plus an option year, and the option year pays you well.

Whoever owned that jersey originally did more work in it than Alvin Harper did in his own.

On a similar topic, I've had a saved eBay search for "Jim Druckenmiller jersey" for over a year now, and all that's popped up is a single jersey that's too damn small. Same jersey over and over, no one is buying.

Aren't they if they signed a contract?

Not when the team isn't obligated to honor the contract. The team could cut those same players if they don't fit the team's needs. I have no problem with players making the same value decision.

Is it just me or is the framerate on the MNF broadcast...odd?

All NFL contracts are honored. The team's right to terminate the contract is part of the contract. The player's ability to hold out (and what happens when they do - note how it does not terminate the contract) is defined in the contract and the collective bargaining rules (which a contract explicitly defers to).

Not honoring a contract would be something like the team not paying the amount of money defined in the deal for games that a player played. That doesn't happen*. Or a player playing football for a team other than the one they are contracted to. That doesn't happen either (not that any team would ever allow one to try).

Spoiler:

* unless you're All Davis's Raiders and the contract is Mike Shanahan's

Yeah, that's what I meant.

The "honor the contract" thing is just one of my peeves. Not really your comment, but more the ones that rage at players holding out.

I agree. There is a local radio guy that always says that college coach contracts aren't worth the paper they are written on. Like NFL contracts, they spell out how each side can terminate said contract.

As soon as I saw NFL teams threatening to cut guys that did not take pay cuts, it really drove home why it's important for players to hold out when their value goes up.

Hey, guys, I think there's a chance Adrian Peterson might not be the answer in New Orleans.

*giggling*

I just did not understand that signing. Mark Ingram runs for over 5 yards a carry last year, and you want to take carries away from him for another between-the-tackles runner?

Like, splitting time with Alvin Kamara makes sense, but Adrian Peterson, like, did they not watch his 2016 games at all? That's the sudden falling-off-a-cliff that makes the "running back over 30" thing a cliche. Just because Frank Gore refuses to collapse doesn't mean everyone else can pull that off too.

This was a good week for home teams in GWJ pick em. Sadly, I only picked 4 home teams.

I went all home team because week 1 sucks.

It would've made sense if they had traded Ingram for a defensive player.

As a Pats fan, this is a weird feeling coming off of week 1. What is that L column? Why do we have a 0 in the win column? I'm cold and scared. Time to curl up in my Ugg boots.

So ice the kicker works again?

I can't wait to spend a day around excited Vikings fans who are sure they now have an unstoppable offense, and then point out that everybody has had an unstoppable offense against the New Orleans Saints for years.

One thing, though--Sam Bradford was great last night. The guy had perfect ball placement from the pocket, with pressure, on the run . . . I was impressed.

I can't find this video anywhere else and I wish Twitter videos posted better to GWJ, so instead I'm gonna link it: https://twitter.com/BenCumminsFF/sta...

How in the hell did he see that?!?!

Wonder how long before we see AP on waivers.

Yeah, that throw was incredible. I think he had strung a few other really nice ones together right before that too.

After 1 week, who has the worst completion percentage in the NFL?

I'm sure he will guzzle some of that snake oil he peddles, deflate a few footballs and be right back to normal next week.

Ted Cruz created quite a stir last night by "liking" some porn videos on Twitter.

His Twitter activity prior to that? Throwing shade at Blake Bortles.
