Nintendo Switch Catch-All 2.0

I’m going to make a risky bet and say we don’t see any Labo stuff and they keep addressing it separately.

I know it’s not possible to start a new save in Zelda without erasing the old save. However, can you transfer the save to another profile or something like that? From what I’ve seen in the settings menu there’s nothing like that. Basically I would like to get going on Zelda again, but it’s been so long since I’ve played that I feel like I should probably start over again. I’m not quite sure, though, so I want the ability to go back if I change my mind.

Make a secondary profile on your Switch and start your second run on that one.

That's what I was afraid of. I'll set a second profile up and start there and see how I get along. I suppose if I get an hour or so in and I'm refreshed enough on the story / controls I can go back to my old profile.

Out of interest, what's the issue with a second profile? I don't see it's really any different from having a second save file, given that Nintendo don't have much in the way of profile-bedazzlers like achievements.

Sure. Nothing that jumps out, other than how saves are handled. From what I can see in the settings you have to transfer the entire profile to a new Switch (if my Switch was damaged or something). I guess you could transfer both profiles, though. Mostly it just feels messy.

Meaning shop is probably spot on about this being Labo (launch April 20) focused with some other teases, like FE (launch May?? June?? no later than July).

May is DKC. June is probably Hyrule Warriors or Yoshi. I'm assuming here that they're going to continue with the usual 1 major Nintendo release a month schedule.

FE in July would push any sort of announcement into the E3 direct I think.

Prior to the Switch, Nintendo was terrible at profile management. And I don't even think they are great at it yet, but better. Part of the problem has been Nintendo is constantly changing how their accounts work and this leads to issues moving forward on platforms. Sony and MS, while not perfect, have had pretty consistent account management for around 10 years.

I don't think it's gonna be as exclusively focused as you do, especially since the initial tweet already suggested they'd be discussing the new Mario Tennis game some. In fact, that they mentioned that before Nintendo Labo would suggest that Labo won't be as prominent, and that Mario Tennis may be their big June release.

I don't know if they'd hold July and August announcements until E3, but this is also guesswork from things like Fire Emblem Warriors being teased earlier in the year last year. I mean, end of the day we're all probably gonna look pretty silly tomorrow evening/afternoon.

EDIT: Well I doubt a date for Battle Chasers is happening since they just confirmed it got certified. If such news were gonna be in the Direct then they wouldn't have made the cert known the day before.

For people who have had their Switch repaired, how long did it take in total? I'm finally getting my Switch looked at for the scratches on the front of the screen caused by the dock and they're telling me up to 6 weeks and they can't guarantee I'll keep my saves. That makes me a little worried that maybe I should buy a second Switch and transfer my profiles to that and then send it off worry-free.

I own this on 3DS and PC and absolutely cannot get into it because I hate how it feels to play. This version ups the visuals, but appears to play the same so for $40 I'm out, but might be up someone else's alley. Very much the definition of a cult game because there are people who *love* this game.

That's certainly one way to throw down a gauntlet

I never really mentioned it.. but it DOES feel a bit off not to have a proper DPAD.. i hope they fix that

And they did it, it seems, solely to support the joycon-detached co-op mode. You know, the mode all Millenials play when they hold their rooftop parties.

I don't do it on a roof, but Joycon detached Mario Kart is definitely one of the main ways my Switch gets used!

My hope is that this is a CYA - they're essentially saying "we're 99% sure we can keep your saves, but in the event that the Switch you send us is utterly janked, we might not be able to retrieve them."

Because, seriously, CTRL+C, CTRL+V, Nintendo, for crying out loud!

Didn't someone around here enjoy Code of Princess? Watching that trailer it looks like the sort of game I should have played by now. I've never been able to pull the trigger on it, though.

What is this issue with saves?

Darkhaund wrote:

If it gets sent off for repair, they don’t guarantee that the saves will be intact when it gets shipped back.

Ahhh I see and should i get concerned for my switch.. or why would i NEED TO SEND it to repair.. sorry for asking

Darkhaund wrote:

Because IT'S BROKEN?

I guess what I SHOULD have asked is... does the Switch tends to break more often than other consoles?

Not really. I don't think I've heard much about defective consoles. The closest I think was maybe regarding scratches to the screen regarding the dock? Or maybe the faulty JoyCon? But otherwise nothing since launch time.

Ahhhh I see thanks

Damn.

I guess all the energy from the impact went into disintegrating the one Joycon.

Which is a $40 part failing to save a ~$300 system. That's good design.

Darkhaund wrote:

I don’t think you need to worry. My system has a scratch on the screen caused by the dock and a 3 foot drop onto linoleum cracked the housing on the back. So I need to send mine in, but I wanted to make sure about profiles before I did.

Vargen wrote:

Yeah. I'm hardly Captain Science but I imagine to really determine the durability you'd need to see it drop at several different angles. Still impressive, but given DSGamer's own system cracked from a much, much lower impact with a linoleum floor...

Anywho, at this point I'm basically killing time until the Direct. Anyone else?

Captain Toad Treasure Tracker is coming to Switch. This is a no brainer purchase for anyone who didn't play it on WiiU! This game is the absolute bomb. Don't miss it!

Personally, I'm disappointed that it's not a full sequel, but perhaps good sales will lead them to develop one.

There are some new Mario Odyssey themed levels, so I'll probably end up rebuying it. Not sure how the touch features (which are apparently intact) will work when playing it on TV, but I don't think it'll be a problem.

Also: Solaire amiibo for Dark Souls! Probably getting that, even though I won't be getting the game on Switch.

Super Smash Bros coming in 2018. Pretty sure that was the main reason they had the Direct

SMASH BROS 2018 TEASER ZOMG!

Spoiler:

I don't even like Smash.
