Nintendo Switch Catch-All 2.0

[shrug] I really like the voices for that character.

Grr, Why did the kind of relaxing a fun Steamworld Dig 2 turn into a combat game? I have been trying to beat the Great Prophet in "The Combuster's Station" for a day or two. I find the jumping around with hookshots to be frustrating at best and really it is kind of sucking the fun out of the game for me.

Is there a secret to make it easier (like realoting my skills) or what?

I can't remember how deep in the game that is. One easy thing to do is just throw more armor upgrades at the problem. More hearts = more survivability.
Armor upgrades can get you some nice cog perks too. One of the later one resurrects you with full hearts the first time you die. I didnt use that until the very last boss

Yup, they were both fine and the choice of voice actors worked for the personalities.

I just saw Toe Jam and Earl coming to Switch. We spent soooo many hours playing it ( original game, not the sequel ) on Genesis in '92 (?). One of my roommates and I would play it late into the night. I still call him "Big Earl" now and then and he does his Earl sneaking impression just to crack me up.

Yes, I'm a child.

I doubt I'll get it, but I'll watch videos of people playing it, for sure.

I've been sick now for three days and Golf Story has been my jam. I never thought I'd like a game like it, but it is a perfect stuck-in-bed game.

I really enjoyed the golf aspects but I am finding it quite hard to figure out how the complete many quests. I have tried talking to as many different people as I can but I must be missing something because nothing seems to change.

I've only just started, but I already had to Google how to feed fish for a quest. If I had explored more I probably would've figured it out eventually.

I also didn't realize I could run until I kept failing a timed quest. That was frustrating.

I am have been unsure a few times to whether I need to go to a different club or if each quest is self contained.

The hardest enemy in Golf Story is the bugs. I wonder if they've patched it since I quit in frustration.

Golf Story badly needs a ton of quality of life improvements. I got very far in it (I think?) but I'm at a point where I am supposed to play something like 7 different competitors at various maps, but the game doesn't list who they are or where you're supposed to play them. It's one of those games that when I pick it up, I want to get a blast of 20 minutes of goofy golfing fun, but after maybe the third time that I spent those 20 minutes mostly trying to figure out what I was supposed to do next instead of just playing, I bailed on it. I really like a bunch of things about it, but it needs a whole lot more polish.

So... I guess it is not better than the Camelot golf/tennis rpgs on GBA then? Perhaps I wait for that tennis game that comes out in a couple of months after all.

I loved it. I agree that it can be a bit obtuse at times, but nothing too bad. The entire world is so small that it's not too hard to find the things you need to find.

Like Poly said, armor upgrades help a lot. One of them unlocks a cog ability that reflects back projectiles. That made rushing the dude much easier. The other thing that can help is just letting him fire off plenty of shots before you advance. His first phase is pretty easy to avoid. That'll clear out a lot of the rubble that can block the most direct path.

I agree, it's pretty weird as that's the only real "fight" I've encountered. I was expecting more boss fights after each major checkpoint is cleared. I'm kind of glad there aren't though. Digging is the best part!

If my Backloggery is correct, I now have more Switch games (9) than PS4 (8). That was fast

I, uh, have a much longer way to go.

Out of curiosity, which Switch games do you have?

This is what I have listed in Backloggery (although there's some double-dips like Overcooked I didn't add there for some reason):

Spoiler:

Breath of the Wild
Mario Odyssey
Mario Kart 8 DX
Splatoon 2
Xenoblade Chronicles 2
Lost Sphear
Snipperclips
Romancing SaGa 2
Vs. Super Mario Bros.

I'm pretty sure I'm a bit of a special snowflake in this regard (my Wii and Wii U collection both individually outnumber the PS3 and PS4 combined). I think this is because as a Nintendo/PC player I'm more inclined to get indies and Western 3rd party titles, which has been a larger focus for Sony since the PS3, on PC. Plus, the Japanese publishers I follow started increasingly putting their lower budget titles exclusively on handhelds starting with the GBA.

And in general I don't find many of Sony's first-party titles all that appealing these days (The Last Guardian and HZD being recent exceptions even though I haven't bought either yet), so it doesn't feel like there's a whole lot on their platform for me.

I don't remember if I said it in this thread or another, but I have sort of had a revelation that I could just stop buying Sony or Microsoft consoles and be a Nintendo-only guy for the rest of my life (assuming gaming persists with console-like devices for as long as I live). It's not that I dislike the games releasing on those platforms (and I'm not big on gaming on PC), it's just that my favorites are so consistently Nintendo titles.

Then again, I'd have missed out on some of my favorites last year like Nier: Automata and Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice, so maybe not quite ready to make that leap yet after all.

I'm super looking forward to Arena of Valor. I've been playing it on my phone and excited to have it on my Switch.

I'm keen to try a Lords Management game that I can play with a controller. I just hope my aim doesn't end up sucking too badly.

I'm very happy being a Nintendo/PC guy. Granted, I sort of use my XBox One as my PC a bit nowadays just for convenience, but I don't really distinguish too much between the two.

After I transitioned from my 360 to PC as my primary gaming platform, I'm feeling that. Particularly since the Switch landed, but pretty much this entire gen, I've had no draw to the PS4 or the XBOXOXOX whatsoever, even when my PC rig was an aging laptop that refused to play anything remotely demanding. Getting a decent rig and the Switch has just reinforced that. If I want deep crunchy games, I sit down at my desk. If I want to play with the fam, we snuggle up on the couch (further enabled by a Steam Link, which, to be honest, barely gets used), and if I'm out and about, the Switch takes care of what my phone doesn't.

I can't blame you there. Their output has become increasingly homogenized, and it's not a style that's super engaging for me. Now that I have a gaming PC, I do more of my playing there, although my aversion to Steam means I'll still end up playing things like Final Fantasy XII and Ni No Kuni II on my PS4.

Have you put any time into Romancing SaGa 2? What do you think of it?

Pro controller case

This PS4 controller hard case fits your pro controller extremely well. 5 Bucks too.

So, I found out that carrying around the pro controller in a bag suuuuucks. It turns on and wants to sync with the Switch. I actually solved this problem by using my Xbox Elite controller case with the Switch Pro Controller and that works like a charm. So, I heartily recommend a controller case like that if you bring your Pro controller with you. Figured I'd mention the Elite controller case in case anyone has one of those lying around like I did.

Ars says Celeste is a must buy (out today for $20)

Huh, you folks don't feel dirty putting your Pro controllers in cases that have other logos on them?!? The shame!!
