Nintendo Switch Catch-All 2.0

My biggest problem with the Switch Pro rumors, despite believing some successor is following, is that they only had to do with improved visuals. Do you really think Nintendo would release a more powerful version of their current console and call it a day?

...

What this tells me, if anything, is that Nintendo's likely working on two kits of hardware and all the people reporting on rumors assumed they were both the "next Switch". The thing is, whatever Nintendo releases next, even if it's the same ecosystem, is going to differentiate itself in some way to make it more than just a power upgrade.

It wasn't only about visuals. Everyone wants there to be a beefier cpu in general now that they've had a taste of the PS5 and Xbox Series.

Is that true? I feel like the majority of Switch owners are just happily playing their Switches, in all likelihood.

I meant everyone in the rumors/discussions. You know, folks who are generally just chasing hype of specs.

It’s like Nintendo deliberately built the least capable system that can handle BotW and didn’t think ahead to what any other games would look like.

So you're saying it's a typical current gen Nintendo console.

(Though really, I love playing BotW on our Wii U.)

Classic Nintendo, pulling the ol' Switcheroo. Or maybe a Bait & Switch?

Eh.. that's quite a Switchback from where the discussion was going. Nintendon't do things like that.

Today’s news articles, hardware industry analysts say: OLED screens were available but Nintendo couldn’t source enough chips to upgrade the internals, so it went with what it had, hence “OLED Switch” instead of “Super Switch” or whatever they had hoped to release for 2021 holidays. Probably will be timed for BOTW2 now.

So they can’t make it close in power to a PS5, but they can stick a new screen on it and give it the same ugly paint job as a PS5.

lol no.

The lies we tell ourselves to maintain our dreams.

There! That should clear up a few things around here.

Deep reply.

I believe Keith meant that hardware industry analysts hypothesize.

I will probably still buy one. I have noticed that I have a hard time loving games in handheld because it is too small a screen so an extra bit of screen real-estate will be welcome

My concern is the extra screen space will make things look worse a la 3DS XL due to pixellation and the like.

A valid concern but I am in the crowd that also loved my 3DS XL so I bet I will be happy.

I see now. The Switch Pro doesn't exist yet because it requires 1.21 jigga-watts.

Or it *did* exist, but then someone messed with the timeline.

Oh, me too, I only ever had an XL, but things just looked so much better on my son's 2DS.

I’m not sure that the slightly larger screen will be a big enough difference for my poor eyesight. If it is then I’m in.

Going from a 6.2" to a 7.0" screen doesn't sound like a lot, but it is actually about a 28% increase in screen area. It should make a good difference if you find the current Switch screen too small (like I do).

But will the sticks still drift?

Yes

All I ask is that when the Switch Pro finally is announced, somebody names the ensuing thread "Nintendo Switch 2.0 Catch-All."

I want to watch the chaos.

The Switch OLED is indeed a tidy upgrade for handheld enthusiasts. More screen real estate. More lush visuals. More oomph from improved speakers. What's not to love? I'd be tempted if I ever took the Switch from its dock. As I do not this irrelevance saves me both the fear of missing out, and the cost of entry. Good times all around!

As someone who plays almost exclusively in handheld mode I’m definitely intrigued by the oled option, although perhaps not enough to shell out the cash for one when the pro is presumably less than two years away...maybe.

Does anyone know how transferring digital purchases from one console to another works?

Yeah I've done it twice. Original system to SSB, then that one to Animal Crossing.

Very similar to 3DS. Source system, target system, move SD card, done.

Upgrading SD card to larger size is more of a pain actually because you can't just copy over and end up having to redownload stuff.

Actually, unlike the 3DS the purchase can be on both devices at once. And with cloud saves most saves can be transferred at your convenience. So if you’re thinking about upgrade it’s much easier to hand over your old Switch at the time of purchase, if that’s partly what you’re wondering.

This isn’t true anymore. Recently I upgrade the SD card on my Lite and I was able to copy the downloads like this.

- Put my old SD card in my computer and copy the contents of that card to the computer

- Put the new SD card in my Lite and initialize it

- Then place the new SD card in my computer and copy the contents of the old card I’d copied to the computer to the new SD card

- Put the new SD card back in my Lite and start playing games

Yeah that's the process I tried probably 100 pages back in this thread but it didn't work and I had to redownload to the new SD card. Good that they fixed it.

And since WA asked about transfer I didn't get into the whole primary/secondary Switch business. Yes you can have two. But there is just a system transfer in the menu if you're upgrading from one switch to another and then selling the old one

Right. I believe moving between consoles you still have to redownload all the games. Thankfully since almost everything is in the cloud most people don’t need to have hands on both consoles at once they way you did with the 3DS. I don’t believe.

Does anyone else get numb pinkies when playing in handheld? I think I might need to get one of those pro controller attachments that someone here had very good opinions of.

I’ve been using Satisfye grip. Which replacement joycons do you use?
