Nintendo Switch Catch-All 2.0

Nintendo US eShop usually updates Thurs at noon eastern. Should have went live before the Steam sale.

EDIT: Looks like it did.

List at CAG

Someone needs to tell their Sales & Deals page to show that they have some sales and deals.

Edit: Ah, that's why. These are all publisher-led sales, not part of a big Nintendo sale. You'll notice that there's nothing first-party in the list, and that the expiry dates are all over the place.

I guess that's what happens when all sales and prices are set at the discretion of the individual publishers without necessarily any coordination with the storefront.

So I've noticed that there is a boxing game coming out next year and it sounds like it will work similar to the boxing games on the Wii with the wiimotes, but I'm curious as to how it would work on the Switch. Are the controllers that come with the Switch also motion sensitive? I really enjoy the exercise games on the Wii and would definitely be very happy if something similar appeared on the Switch!

Yes, both Joycons are motion-sensitive. As I understand it, they're more sensitive than the Wiimotes but less sensitive than the Wii Motion Plus controllers.

Dammit. Was that huge Euro sale also 3rd party?

That's AWESOME!

I guess that wrist strap they came with makes a lot more sense now. Couldn't figure out why I needed it.

No, which makes me think we have a Nintendo-led sale coming up. FWIW, they did one last year that started on the 23rd.

FWIW, Lumines is on sale for just under $10 on the eshop. People should get it.

Dragon Quest XI S is getting a 2019 release in Japan on Switch with Japanese voiceovers. Evidently it didn't have voice acting on PS4? There at least? There's supposed to be a big announcement on January 1st. Hopefully a release in America is not far behind, as the Switch port is precisely what I'm waiting for.

Well I cleaned up with the current e-shop sale, got Drawful 2, West of Loathing, Banner Saga 1, Broken Age, and Crashlands today. I started Crashlands and Banner Saga a long time ago, but didn't get far in either

I picked up Aegis Defenders after finally trying the demo.

I got my daughter her own Switch for Christmas. I'm trying to do an account transfer but not having much luck. I get to the stage where two consoles are looking for each other but neither one finds the other and it times out with an error message on the source console.

Has anyone run into this? A search of the error message (2155-8028) doesn't turn up anything helpful. I've tried restarting devices, consoles, routers, swtiching networks, but no luck so far.

I'm kind of wondering if it's a server-side issue where literally hundreds of thousands of people are trying set up new Switches today and something is overloaded somewhere?

I had some issues with a 3DS account transfer earlier this morning. Obviously not the same thing you're asking about, but it does make me think the servers are getting hit.

I had no problem doing the transfer a month back with Smash console. So yeah it might be a server problem.

So I will vote for Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom as a pretty legit "sequel" to the series. Game Atelier really loves the series. Its very much a "Metroidvania" game in style with some tight jumping puzzles thrown in. The art is bright and mimics the Wonderboy 3 look (chibi). The music is fantastic and you should check it out if you have a chance. Played with joycons/pro controller. Feels good either way.

Nintendo in 2019 Discussion Part 1 - What We Know! Metroid, Pokémon, Animal Crossing, Yoshi, & More!

Help me goodjers, you're my only hope. So I had a play date for my youngest yesterday, and there was a Switch at the other kid's house. I've effectively been pushed over the edge. I tried to find the basic info I needed, but forgive me for not digging through the 120 pages of the thread.
Do I need a SD card in the Switch? Is the eShop subscription thing a requirement?

As it is, I'm going to get Mario Kart for sure, because that was a smashing hit with the kiddo (and they have "easy mode" for the kids, I had no idea, I always thought it'd be beyond his current abilities), probably a Just Dance or two to play with them. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, as this would be my first shiny new console ever, and I don't want to mess it up.

Clockwork set up a good thread for people getting a new console, you might get some useful basic info on the Switch there.

If you're focussing on family games then you might want to think about going digital so you can switch (sorry) between them easily. If you're doing that you'll probably be better off getting a microSD.

You'll need the online subscription if you wanna play Mario Kart online, but if you just plan on playing locally with your kids then the game is enough.

Might be worth thinking about the fact that the console comes with two Joy Con, so that's enough for two people to play Mario Kart locally. If there's more than that playing you'll need to either buy more Joy Con, get a Pro Controller, or if you have an XBox controller maybe get an adapter so you can use that. 8bitdo have a lot of fun options for Switch controllers.

Hope that helps!

That helps LOADS, thanks! I’m a total neophyte, so I’m completely second guessing myself.
I have two kids, so if I want to prevent WW3, two joy-cons is the best minimum. When I want to play with them, maybe I’ll just get a pro controller, that sounds wiser. Theyre still young so the library is probably going to remain small for now. I guess I can always get a microSD later.
Thank you so much.

I ordered a microSD card, but don't have it yet. I've been able to play the games I own OK. Physical cartridges - Mario + Rabbids, Breath of the Wold and Mario Odyssey. Digital - Hollow Knight, Runner 3.

So far I've had no space issues.

With kids you might want to get some type of screen protector or something.

Oh yeah, that’s a given. You should see the size of the case I have on the iPad too.

Whether you need an SD card or not depends on what games you're looking at and whether you're going all digital. For me, I went for over a year without needing one. You've got 32gb of onboard memory, and first party games aren't all that big. I did get at least half my games physical because of discounts, but even so. I'd say don't get one to start, and either grab one when you need one or when Amazon runs one of their really regular sales on them. I think I got a 64gb one for about $15 USD, and that's been plenty for me. You can swap SD cards in and out easily, so there's no need to get one up front unless you know you'll need it immediately.

The Mario Kart assist stuff is pretty effective. My wife isn't an experienced gamer, but the steer assist gives her enough of help that she feels confident. It doesn't do full auto-steering, it's basically just there to keep you from going off the track, so you still to drive. Plus you get a neat little antenna on the back of your car when it's on.

Hard second on the screen protector. The tempered glass ones are totally invisible if you install it right, and I've personally seen one prevent a kid's knee from breaking a Switch screen. With the joycons and the dock, I'm not sure there's much else to do in the way of cases, other than a carrying case if you stick it in a bag.

We lost a tempered glass screen protector to something falling on the Switch in my eldest's room. The screen underneath was perfect, but the screen protector was cracked.

Best $20 I've ever spent.

I mean, 32gb microSD cards are so cheap these days. No reason not to have one.

Seconded on the microSD card, especially if you're really going to try going all digital.
Two games won't break the internal storage capacity, but you'd be surprised how few games it'll store.

I'm sure you'll set up the Parental Controls, and since they can let you prevent your kids from playing specific games, you can pick up other stuff for yourself.
I'd vote for Xenoblade Chronicles 2!

Well, I seem to have a bought a **thing**!!!! I was disappointed they were out of Mario Kart, the kids were bummed too, so I’ll have that shipped. I picked up Last Dance 2019. And I had to pick a 65€ game to get bundled with it, they offered Mario Odyssey, and another I can’t even remember right now, so I went with the third option they hadn’t even mentioned Let’s Go Pokémon Evee.
Oh I’m done for, aren’t I?

Oh and no need to convince me on the tempered glass, it’s saved a few iThings in our house.

Iridium, I just about died laughing at that.

That has a pretty relaxed couch co-op mode if you think your kids would enjoy playing together. Two players take a Joy Con each, control a Trainer each, and battle and catch as a team. Starting and stopping co-op mode is as simple as shaking a Joy Con. I only used it a couple of times, but I thought it worked well.

I've never played a Pokémon game aside from Pokémon Go on my phone so I have literally no idea what you're talking about. This is going to be interesting, I'll have to report back.
