Nintendo Switch Catch-All 2.0

Switch Friend Codes!

Here's Everything You Need to Know about Nintendo Switch after January 12th's reveal event.

This is the place to Nintendo Switch news, previews and hardware discussion! For larger AAA games that merit their own discussion thread please make a catch-all for the game.

Go here for games that are released that don't need their own thread.

So instead of people staying on topic we just dump it all here and complain if the normal everyday rants get out of hand like they always do? Why even let people create threads if this is what it comes to?

As a millennial, I need the internet to validate my existence.

I'm going to be a pedantic ass but what about AAA games like Arms that aren't eShop only titles but aren't really deserving their own thread? Do we discuss them here or somewhere else?

You just described like 75% of my current GOTY list, LOL.

Well, minus the whole AAA part.

I don't understand how this is different from what we had before the thread closings?

Fair question, I'll leave it up to Clockwork since she is the owner of the eShop thread. If she feels ALL Switch games discussion (that doesn't warrant its own thread) should go there that works for me.

Edit: Well in light of the above...

Given the last catch-all had three pages of discussion about HOW Nintendo is discussed I looked back and realized we never made a fresh one after the Switch launched and consoles were out in the wild like we normally do.

Sometimes you gotta cut down the old branches and start fresh. Nothing is set in stone, but let's see how things go now that Switches are easier to come by and there seems to be some real interest in keeping things on point.

Yeah big systems or games usually get a fresh release catch-all.

Good way to trim 200+ pages and start fresh. Also people who may have been interested before release but haven't jumped in for whatever reason can let the old thread die and stop seeing it in their recent posts. Good for a lot of reasons.

Clocky has adjusted the games thread to be "Nintendo Switch - Games You Can Play Right Now" meaning if the game is out and playable, that's where you go. We can keep game previews, news, hardware discussion and stuff here in the catch-all. Good balance I think!

Since there was some question about what the two new threads are for, I thought I'd cross-post this from the (retitled) Nintendo Switch - Games You Can Play Right Now thread.

Hey, everyone. I chatted a bit with Certis, and he's asked me to make a determination about what's appropriate for this thread and what isn't, because I'm a bit more Female Doggoy personally invested in Nintendo's games and platforms.

His suggestion—and I think it's a good starting point—is to focus this thread on games that aren't big enough to warrant a dedicated catch-all but are also actually released and available to play, i.e., not stuff you're looking forward to but stuff you're playing right now.

This is the place to post your hot takes, thoughtful impressions, and questions about games that you're playing that other people could play, too. Upcoming releases, hardware questions, online services, peripherals, Nintendo Directs, sales data, and all other Switch-related conversation should go in the Switch thread. The 3DS and Wii U threads will continue to encompass all things Wii U and 3DS. Hopefully that clarifies things a bit.

Sounds good, thanks for clarifying

Personally I am just happy there are so many people interested in the Switch. Love the system and I hope it keeps going strong.

Tagging for when I have something relevant to say.

This week's NY'er just arrived at my doorstep. I think you'll be pleased.

That looks like a kid watching a movie youtube, on a phone, planted in front of a nice entertainment center. That seems to be the way the younger generations are consuming video these days. Be sure to let us know the topic!

Hear hear!

Since buying a Switch, I've barely done any gaming on any other platform. My PS4 is almost strictly for YouTube and Netflix now.

I read somewhere that "The Switch removes the barrier between wanting to play a game, and actually playing it". And I think that's very true. So often I'll want to play something, but get frustrated at the whole boot-up, start, sit down and commit. With the Switch, I can put in a few minutes here and there, and often that turns into hour-long sessions. It's similar to the PS Vita in that regard, but finally, we get the full console experience on-the-go.

Put into practice, I'd say there's a 100% chance I would have finished both Yakuza 5, and Persona 5 were they available on Switch. Instead, they both sit at about 5% and 40% completion due to the commitment it takes on the regular console experience.

(I just wanted something to say to tag myself in the thread )

If I had Valkyria Chronicles for the Switch my PS4 would probably be in a closet. We're close.

They're calling it the "Television Issue". I also strongly suspect that's a smartphone not a Switch in the cartoon.

I'm expecting that between the Switch and Japanese companies realizing there's an untapped market on PC, my general interest in Sony's hardware is going to finally die in a year or two. Right now, I'm just waiting on Atlus to realize which way the wind is blowing and more companies to publish more of their back catalogs on PC and/or Switch.

Oh no. Here we go again.

Aww, man.

I thought that was a Switch at first glance.

You know, the idea of forgoing gaming on the Big Screen in favor of taking the Switch on the go.

Oh hey Sandisk released a 400GB microSD card. It's not the fastest speed card around but certainly the largest by a good margin. Looks like it's shipping in the next 2-4 weeks

Why would people be pleased by a kid masturbating to porn on his phone?

I think (?) people were wondering what was going on with Square-Enix's Octopath Traveler game in the old thread. It's listed on Square-Enix's schedule for TGS, so we'll know more about it later this month.

Atlus had a recruitment Stream that seemed themed around Catherine, with heavy suggestions at a potential sequel. My hopes would be for Switch availability but who knows.

I mean, if the Switch becomes a first-party, indies, and JRPG machine, well, that's a step up in support from last generation so I'm totally cool with that.

We have a Wii and a Wii U. Thinking about getting a switch for Christmas. Will Wii U/Wii controllers work on the switch? What about Games? I assume that any that use the light bar won't work at least. Besides controllers anything else hardware wise people recommend? As for games, Arms, Splatoon 2, and Mario seem like good choices. Any others that are recommended? We don't really play Zelda games.

The Switch has no backwards compatibility with prior systems.

Nope, there's no compatibility with Wii anything.

I won't offer any suggestions, because it sounds like our tastes are different. I currently only own Zelda, Mario XCOM, Shovel Knight, and have Mario Odyssey preordered, and have no plans to get Arms, Splatoon, or Mario Kart. There are a bunch of indie games out and announced that are probably worth looking into.
