New TV Season 2017-18

The Rookie was fun.

Yeah, I think it will be a keeper. It's got a few problems, but I expect them to cleared up after the first few episodes establish things.

Wait did no one make a new 18-19 thread?

Anyway SNL killed it last night. The opening "it's a wonderful life", the "weezer" skit, weekend update reading each other's jokes, so much great stuff.

My wife and I are still loving The Rookie, as are my aunt and one of my teammates at work.

Have I mentioned Rake here? The newest (and possibly final) season just hit Netflix a couple months ago. This is an Australian show about a self-centered lawyer who's kind of a loveable jackass. They tried to remake it in the US with Greg Kinnear, but it didn't take. The original is absolutely brilliant, and very funny.

If this was the end, it ended well, but I would love to get more.

Not new, but Happy! is now on Netflix. I re-watched it yesterday. I may be going to hell, but that show brings me so much joy.

So my wife and I were all fired up to watch The Rookie last night, but it was a re-run! Anyone know where we can see if next week will be a new episode?

Wikipedia contains a list of episodes for most shows. That's where I go. You could also look into checking out the TV Time app for your phone which will show you upcoming episodes for your shows and notify you when new episodes are about to air.

Sweet! I've been looking for something like this. After adding a bunch of my shows and looking at the list, I was shocked at how many of the series showed up as ended! Last man on Earth got canned?! I really liked that show. That sucks!

I went to the subreddit today, and it says the next new episode will be Feb 12.

I've been using https://pogdesign.co.uk/cat/ for years.

This is one of the reasons I love Tivo.

I just click on Explore the show and I get all the information about past and future episodes, including when they first aired. They have two grid systems for searching. We use the Tivo system for day to day channel surfing, but the standard grid for scrolling through the weeks checking the primetime schedules. And with a season pass, I just watch new episodes when they air, as it skips repeats.

And from all that you can schedule a recording and create a season pass. And if you search for a show that is on a streaming service, it links to those two. If you pick and epode, it launches the app and starts at the episode you chose.

Throw in a one button press that skips all the commercials an instantly starts back up after a commercial break, and it is hard to move on from.

If I went back to cable, I'd be on U-Verse, and I believe I read that it wasn't compatible with Tivo.

Same here. Pog is pretty amazing for setting up your watching schedule.

I just set up POG as well. I like the interface better.

Yeah, I’ve read the same. I use Tivo with Spectrum. DirecTV’s Genie is an equally great DVR, butcthat is DiectTV only.

At some point we will have to give up on Tivo. As cable goes streaming, it won’t play well. I’m debating getting a Bolt, so that our streaming on Tivo is in 4K, too. I use the XB1X to stream in 4K, but my wife prefers to use the Tivo for all of it, because of those features.

We’ve been fans of TiVo since getting DirecTV with a TiVo about 15 years ago. Hated Spectrum’s DVR, so we decided to go the cable card route and use the TiVo.

It’s one of the reasons I have not been able to switch to any of the streaming services. The cloud based DVRs are universally awful, including forcing commercials back into programming, which my wife will not accept, at all. Especially now with a single button that doesn’t just FF through commercials, but jumps to the exact end of the break instantly. Trying out the streaming services’ DVRs was painful.
