X4: Foundations Catch-all

New patch that fixes the AI not building replacement ships is coming to beta very soon. This will fix a number of problems around the economy stagnating (no demand from no war damage) and of course....WAR!

That's plenty out of me Forgive my ignorance Veloxi, but what is the name of your podcast? I'd like to follow.
Edit : OH SURE...HIDE IT IN YOUR SIGNATURE!!

Hah, thanks for the follow!

Great looking station, Wayfarer!

X4 Manual

It's pretty barebones at the moment for such a big game, but it's got some things I never knew, like:

Mixed Mode
Although not a mode which can be activated it is possible to utilise Boosting to accelerate into Travel Mode. With a Travel Drive active it is possible to Boost while Travel Mode charges up to reach high Travel Mode speed quickly. Whereas with a Combat Drive we can Boost before activating Travel Mode to reach high Travel Mode speed quickly. Ships that are out of shield are unable to perform Boost+flee+Travel Mode jousting.

Sounds like the new patch is doing the trick.

However, get prepared before it hits! Sounds like the galaxy is going to become a very dangerous place shortly. I plan on beefing up my fleet big time tonight.

Info from the devs on the next couple of major updates

Been getting into X4, and I am loving it so far. I love being able to dock at stations and walk off my ship. There is also so much to do. I am many hours in and still discovering new elements to the game.

So a question for the group:

Let's say (hypothetically of course) that I happened to have some security bypass systems that fell into my personal inventory while doing a "scientific" exploration of a shipwreck. And lets say that these security bypass systems aren't legal in EVERY sector in the galaxy. How would one go about finding a responsible buyer for said security bypass systems?

Cant quite work out whether this a mouse & keyboard game or a hotas one. Coming from ED it feels I should use a joystick etc, but given that so much of it is menu-driven M&KB feels more sensible.

What are you using?

Also, has anyone had issues with Tutorial 3 - I cant seem to get further than endless scanning without triggering the next phase in the story?

Thanks in advance

The X games were never, ever HOTAS games, and likely never will be. Mouse and keyboard is the way to play this one.

Thanks Veloxi. Ill give that a try tonight as i really need to get the PHQ mission done

This came up a few pages back, but I always played X3 with both joystick and mouse, especially when flying a fighter. I set up my desk so both are easily available and I can push the stick aside when I'm going to work the UI for a while.

Agreed that this is definitely not a HOTAS game; you're going to need the mouse and keyboard a lot, so you can supplement that with a flightstick if you want. A game controller is right out; worst of both worlds.

You enter scan mode around and station and look for the red spark pinwheel signals. some of thosewill be people offering a mission to deliver a particular illigal good. Now whether you have that illigal good to give or not, if you accept a mission it will spawn a new area called a "bar" on the station with a guy that will buy any and all of your illegal inventory items in addition to receive the mission items.

now i understand that completing one of those is supposed to open up the bar on that station permanently, or bars on all stations, but it's broke and doesn't, so anytime you wanna sell stuff you've gotta accept one of those missions and go to the bar it creates

Really enjoying this but wow what a steep learning curve!

A question for you all, when I'm building a facility is there a way to tell freighters to automatically go and source the materials needed, or do you have to do it manually?

Thanks in advance

Trader AI is a little broken right now. But essentially you pick your trader on the map, right click on your station, and select "trade for" near the bottom of the options.

Ahhhh, so simple!

Thanks

This game is frustrating with the bugs and half (at best) implemented features. I've put a good 60 hours in (probably 20 active) and just uninstalled it to protect myself from further rage at some save breaking bug or economic standstill ruining the 5 hours of work I just put in. If I could still get a refund at this point I'd take it.

Needs another year in the oven :/

I can appreciate that the devs probably needed to get it out to avoid bankruptcy (I assume) but as a customer I'm disappointed.

Edit: Also I dont really see much of value this adds over X3: Terran Conflict. More friendly ship names are nice, the new station builder is much nicer, but these are tiny incremental changes over the previous game (we'll just pretend that other one didnt exist). To get to parity with X3: TC is going to take years and now they've got this big unstable base for people to add the big necessary mods that have defined the series.
