Remember when I predicted that the deluge of indie games would slow down when Madden came out?

Me neither.

This week I’m deep in the thrall of unlocking characters and costumes in Agents of Mayhem, but one title did catch my eye. MagiCat is a gorgeous, 16-bit style game in the style of Super Mario World where you play as a kitten wearing a wizard’s hat. It buries the needle on the cute-o-memeter, and if it controls as well as it looks like it controls, I’m all in. Too bad it’s not on the Switch. The camel-cased MagiCat gets my nod for Game of the Week.

I feel like I'm writing nothing but negativity in this box these days, because once again my pick of the week belongs to a franchise I've never really found enjoyment in. Of course, I've only played a few hours worth of Uncharted 2, but when the alleged best in the series (up to that point) feels like it's got imprecise controls with awful artificial intelligence, you begin to wonder what everyone else is so impressed about.

Whatever it is, it's got me curious about Uncharted: Lost Legacy, a standalone expansion/spin-off of last year's Uncharted 4 featuring Claudia Black as the voice of protagonist Aeryn Sun Chloe. I don't know anything about the character aside from everyone else being excited. However! It does allow players unfamiliar with the franchise a chance to step in without regard to continuity or Nathan Drake's narrative. So third fourth fifth time's a charm with Uncharted: Lost Legacy.

Wolfenstein: The Two Pack is for those who want to kill Nazis but can’t wait until October, when Wolfenstein II comes out. If you’re gaming behind the curve like me, this bundle of Wolfenstein: The New Order plus The Old Blood, for half the price of either, is great value.

Normally I’d be “meh” about another Uncharted game, having not played 4. However, I’m a sucker for stealth mechanics. Naughty Dog has finally committed to doing stealth properly, by including silenced weapons and enemy alert cycles. Put Metal Gear in anything and I’m bound to like it more. I reckon I’ll skip over Uncharted 4 and go straight to Lost Legacy … right after I finish those last few missions in MGSV.

Huh, The Escapists 2. That a series of games I still haven't managed to play even with how often it pops up on "you'll like this" lists.

The Achievement Hunter people must be rolling in cash.

More Uncharted! Sign me up. I'm excited to see how an adventure starring Chloe plays out.

Sadly, Amazon release delivery didn't kick in for this one, so I won't get it until a few days after release.

Rolling might be a strong word.

Steam Spy puts sales for those games in the single-digit thousands. At under a buck each. Admittedly, their release schedule has been weekly (no, seriously), but they're not clearing much more than a grand a week.

For the minimal amount of effort they're putting into this, I consider that rolling in the cash.

I find this conversation absolutely hilarious during the week that Madden comes out, because AH is basically a hyper-speed version of what EA/Activision/Ubisoft do over the course of years.

What will be most interesting to me is to see how long the weekly-iterative-release business model holds up. It took Assassin's Creed 8 games before it stopped making sense to keep releasing a new skin of the same game every year. Activision is starting to learn that Call of Duty isn't the moneymaker it once was (they're at 8 games so far) Achievement Hunter has been on the list for three weeks now. If it goes to 8 and then stops, it suggests that 8 of the same game is asking a lot from a fan base, whether your development cycle is measured in months or days.

Nintendo seems to be banking on other developers finding the limit first, because they're on a five (or more) year cycle, and they've only been to the 3D Mario well 5 times since SM64.

I am looking forward to more Uncharted and will probably pick up Velocity 2X on the PS4. It was so good on Vita that I am happy to double dip.

It was cross-buy at release, so good news: you already have it! The Critical Mass edition, as near as I can tell, is just a limited run physical release.

If I remember correctly, it was a freebie PS+ game. I enjoyed it so much that I'm happy to throw a few bucks at them in hopes for a Velocity 3X.
