Let It Die - Goretastic Catch-All!

If one of these already exists, I couldn't find it, so HERE WE GO, SENPAI!

Let It Die is the latest project by Grasshopper Manufacture, the studio of Suda51 (Killer7 and No More Heroes; though this game isn't his project, it definitely carries some of his gonzo style). A free-to-play PS4 exclusive, Let It Die often finds itself being categorized as "Souls-esque hack-and-slash"; "Souls-esque" because the hack-and-slash gameplay has the same weighted feel behind each attack, and because death in game comes with the penalties of losing that character completely until either A) Encounter your character on the same floor, revived by Hatred and out for your blood, and kill them, or B) Pay in-game gold to have them retrieved at the expense of all the items they were carrying; "rogue-lite" because the layout of the floors changes with every foray into the Tower.

I downloaded this game the day it came out and ended up putting a solid 40 hours into it before setting it aside. Now that I'm picking it back up again, I find that I can't find too many people also playing (outside of /r/LetItDie). If it sounds interesting to you, give it a shot! It's free, and the microtransactions are easily avoidable - The primary item for sale is an in-game currency called "Death Metals" that can be used for expanding your storage capacity, sending items back to your inventory from the upper floors, or as a Continue should your character die on the floors. However, these Death Metals can also be earned from Raids on other players' home bases, or even just be given out by the dev staff for server maintenance or special events.

But I've yapped enough. If you haven't tried the game yet, maybe give it a gander. If you have, then chat it up, senpai!

My playtime for Let It Die was close to 200 hours by the time I beat it. I really enjoyed the game, but its specific blend of madness and questionable design decisions make it difficult to recommend for most.

The balance for upgrading and difficulty was mostly ok up until the 20th floor. After that, the grind to find upgrade materials ramps up in order to keep weapons and armor up to snuff. Specifically, there are several kinds of upgrade materials that don't drop from bosses, so in order to farm them, you have to wait for specific rooms to appear and make long runs to those rooms in hopes that the material you need is the one to show up among 4 or 5 different possible drops. It's not a good system.

My advice to anyone would be pick a single set of armor to focus on, and pick one or two weapons. Definitely make one of those weapons the Red Hot Iron. That weapon is busted. The masamune blade or cleaver saber are good secondary choices. And save as many invisishrooms as you can for boss fights

The Iron's Block and Rage Move make it indispensable. Otherwise, I like to focus on the Jungle Machete and the Iron Hammer, and now I'm trying to choose a good gun tree to focus on.

As for my own time in game, I spent most of it before now grinding for the fun of it beneath 10th floor. Now that I'm getting back into it, I'm making that push up the tower once more. Many thanks for the advice!

The iron hammer is quite good. Unfortunately, it's one of those weapons that has a giant PITA upgrade material during one of the mid tiers, so I shelved it for something that wouldn't require an additional 20 hours of farming. If you're willing to farm for those materials, it's a great investment.

The jungle machete is also good, but the durability on it is very low compared to something like the masamune or the cleaver. That's why I would recommend those two over it.

I'm guessing you don't have access to either yet, in which case, just stick to the iron until you do I'm telling you, the red hot iron can get you through the entire game on its own. If you want to make quick progress, focus solely on that weapon. At the very least, focus on it until you get into the 20+ floors where you will unlock several more weapon blueprints. Then you can decide what other weapons are worth investing in.

The motor psycho and bowling stomper are also good weapons, but you get them so late (along with the masamune blade, I think) that it's difficult to recommend upgrading more than one unless you're willing to do some hardcore farming. The axe is also worth considering because its rage move is amazing for boss fights. It was the weapon I used for bosses when I needed to farm them for a specific material.

I tried very hard to make a gun work with a shooter class, but aside from a couple circumstantial exceptions, they're simply not as good as the melee weapons. Eventually, I ended up with one striker, one defender, and collectors in all of my other character slots for storage purposes. The sniper rifle is amazing for picking off enemies before they get to you, but very risky to use if you're already fighting someone. For pure damage in combat, I'd probably go with the nail gun. Just be aware that it doesn't stagger like the harder hitting weapons, so you need to be careful with it.
