Convince me that Reshade is actually good

I've started poking at Reshade a little, after it seemed so popular with PUBG players.

At first glance, it reminded me of people who think their TV looks "better" when cranking up sharpness and color saturation.

I wonder if there are tweaks that are worthwhile, though, and not just butchering a game's intended art style (not everything is supposed to be saturated in color!).

Is there a use case for Reshade that isn't just crushing all subtlety out of a scene? What is it that I'm missing here?

It's the Samsung effect. Everyone's so used to oversaturation on their phones they want it in all their games.

I can see using sharpening in PUBG, as picking out some little dots from other little dots at a distance seems important in the game.

The contrast/recolor stuff, though, seems silly but it is great everyone can customize the look of the game the way they want to, if they want to.

Not sure the FPS hit is worth it, but some people have FPS to burn, so what the hell.

This is the Reshade thread, not the Throw Shade at *Legion* thread.

It has been my experience that, on these forums, all threads are the throw shade at *Legion* thread.

Edit: And to be on topic, is using a third party app for post-processing actually allowed? It feels almost a little bit like cheating.

Player Unknown tweeted that it was OK to use ReShade - if you google "pubg reshade" or the like, you cannot help but see it. Everyone is taking that as permission.
