Monster Hunter World Catch-All

Well yes i figured that out. It's just a bit annoying because it prevents me from doing what i would do in both The Witcher and MHW which is prep potions and armor and decorations specifically to counter the strengths and abilities of the monster.

Oh, well then you picked up on it sooner than I did. Failed the first attempt because I'm trash with SnS and was just flailing away like an idiot. Took it out 2nd time easily enough though, once I switched to a weapon I have experience with. Crowd control helps a lot as well.

I just happened to pick that direction to go when i started and ran into the weapon guy. I think part of my issue is I don't have much practice on anything but IG and SnS and I don't think either of those weapons are really well suited to that fight. I'll probably work at it off and on with other weapons if for no other reason to stop it telling me about it every time i show back up in HQ

I killed Diablos! Still was using my long sword. I got better at avoiding his attacks. Used some armor potion, kept my stamina up with some rations and energy potions. Ate a defensive meal beforehand.

So happy when I saw the message he was dead. The vendor is selling some potent power and defense charms that look good. I don't have much money though since I haven't done a ton of the side missions.

It is possible to go through Low Rank Diablos without mastering this, but if you're using Longsword, do master the Foresight Slash. It is foundational for building your spirit level quickly. Diablos is a good "training post" for this because all his attacks have unmistakable tells and are very predictable in terms of hitbox and timing. I used him a lot for practicing my guardpoints.

Congrats on the W! Feelsgood, man.

I haven't done the Foresight Slash or Spirit Helm Breaker yet. I've just been concentrating on getting my spirit meter to red with the basic attack (Y) to fill the meter and then using the Spirit Combo (RT) to upgrade the meter. I should probably try some of this stuff.

Here are a couple examples of longsword users that really know what they're doing.

Diablos:

and Velkhana in Iceborne:

Think of them more as showcases of what is possible than what is expected. Lord knows I'm nowhere close to this good.

So the thing I missed is that there is a pukei pukei that you can free, and they will help you fight later on.

Also if you leave one of the yellow lizards alive, it will keep him from summoning another pack.

I finished the main story I guess and made it to the high rank missions. I didn’t like those Elder Dragon missions. Also, if I have to hear my handler giggle one more time I wish I could let the monsters get her.

So I was tracking the Rathian in the first group of high ranked missions. I found it in the forest and got it close to death. Then the Rathios (or whatever its called) showed up and eventually I feinted. No problem I say, I was doing fine against the Rathian. I find him again and get him close to death and the Rathios shows up again. This time we are in very tight quarters and I can barely move. I feint again. I find my prey again - once again as soon as its close to death the Rathios shows up and I die and fail the mission.

It was not fun. I had been fighting my target for so long and it screwed me 3 times. It's kinda funny when it happens once, but it felt cheap after that.

I have gained an appreciation to the combat and have made more use of some of the other attacks I can do.

You need to put poop in your slinger and sling it at the monster you want to leave.

I totally forgot about those. I had collected a bunch but never used them.

One of the most useful items in the game once you get to High Rank. Especially when Bazel gets in the mix.

Yea getting B52 to bug off in an extremely important part of doing missions in the elder recess.

They're even more important in Master Rank. I have had 3 monsters duking it out in one zone on several occasions.

Yeah! It's like they travel in packs.

i was farming some dobo parts. Urdo shows up, i pooped him, and then 4 times in a row dobo immidiently followed his friend to where he went.

OK, now I think it's time for a break, for reals this time

I think I'm tired of always dodging these big behemoths. That said, I've had a good time with the game and I'm glad I got to see what it is about. I wish they left all dialog out of this game though because it was painful, especially the handler.

Hah! I feel your pain. I had the same yesterday when trying to fight a Tobi who was BFFs with an Anjanath.

I also feel your pain. My anime bullsh*t tolerance is extremely low these days. I just button through everything. MonHun is a good game to come back to later should you choose to.

I'm finally at the end-boss. I'll be taking a break from pushing the story to round up my Optionals and put some Investigations under my belt. I still haven't fought Master Rank Uragaan! And I want to farm some Raths for weaponscrafting.

I've only largely upgraded my light bowguns and chargeblades. I haven't even touched my SnS lines, yet.

Been playing a lot of gunlance, it's been buffed quite a lot. I've just been using the metal line rarity 11 one with normal 6 shells. Discovered the new wyrmstake blast where you can load slinger ammo into the barrel to make the stake put a mark on the monster that duplicates all explosions. Got the zorah set bonus to get artillery 5 and with the mark on a full burst combo does 827 damage. Haven't played with the other high level shelling types yet.

I just tested Long6 Crimson Hornet on the pole and it does nearly 800 damage on a full burst, and in excess of 250 damage on Charged Shelling. That's with the WSB, of course.

So i haven't had any experience at all with bowguns, light or heavy, but i want to make a friendship support build with one to play with a buddy. Does anyone have any good recommendation for a particular bowgun to build to and bowgun complimentary skillz to go with it?

If you want a Wide Range support function to go with your bowgun, definitely go for light bowgun. The bowgun you should go for and armor you will want depend on what rank you're currently in.

IN OTHER NEWS:

I'm well and truly into the Iceborne endgame. It's much more robust and interesting than World endgame, though many complain about the grind. I figure I'll just hunt whatever in a meandering fashion and I'll get to where I want eventually. I still have a lot of materials I don't even know.

The weapons are cool. The armors are hella cool. There's a bunch of really interesting conditional bonuses you get to play with. They change up the combat somewhat so that's interesting. In Iceborne endgame, some of the mats you will need will come from most of the roster of Iceborne and World, so there's going to be reason to hunt down a Pukei Pukei in massively powerful endgame gear. I guess there's a pretty good reason for it to be paranoid.

Right now, I'm playing Charge Blade, Light Bowgun, and Gunlance, and I'm finally filling out my Master Rank armory.

Now that I've had a good amount of time with it, the grind does seem a little too punishing as is. I expect that they'll make some tweaks to

Spoiler:

the zone de-leveling mechanics of the Guiding Lands. This shouldn't be happening:

If not then they need to make it much faster to boost a zone once you've maxed it out at least once. This system is particularly punishing for solo players. A group of friends can at least coordinate different zones to max and join each other for the parts they need.

I've mostly been working on the end-game system and farming the final boss whenever its investigation pops up. Most of the upgrades and new gear I want are going to take some time in the end-game to get.

I've been sticking with charge blade for the most part with some HH thrown into the mix every now and then. Now that I feel like I have good grasp on the charge blade, I understand why so many people stick with this weapon exclusively. It's so satisfying to use when you get the hang of it.

Don't you technically only need to hunt every monster in every locale once for the normal, then once again for the Tempered version? Once you get the parts in, you can just meld them from other parts.

As far as I understand, there are some parts on the high end monsters that you can't meld, but I'm not 100% sure on that. I'm not high enough to check. If you can, that would be less of an issue.

Spoiler:

Though looking at the monster part trading for lower level monsters, you'd presumably still need high level parts for equivalent monsters. Getting those to spawn is the other major issue. I know Capcom said they're looking into easier ways to rotate monsters to get the ones you need, but we don't know how long that will take.

I currently have Ancient Forest at level 5, but I still am just as likely to get level 1 and 2 monsters as level 5. So even after unlocking Scarred Yian Garuga at level 6, I'd have to spam zone swaps in expeditions to get it to spawn. This wouldn't be a huge deal on PC, but with the PS4/Xbox load times...yeesh. Luckily for me, I have an external SSD, so my load times are at least tolerable.

Before they disabled the training room glitch (you used the swap room items option with your training cat and it would reload all the expedition monsters), I wanted to kill a Guiding Lands Yian Kut Kut for a charm upgrade. It took me 20 reloads before I got one to show up in the Guiding Lands, and that was when all of my zones were level 1 or 2.

So even if melding works as you said, it still has some big issues, at least until they patch in a better way to rotate monsters or pick the ones you want.

Spoiler:

Edit: Looks like I was wrong on the monster spawning at higher levels. It seems the opposite is true. It's tough to get lower level versions of monsters to show up once you have a region leveled up. Here's a level-headed video that explains it pretty well.

Anyways, the system is still a massive improvement over base the MHW endgame either way. It just has a few kinks for Capcom to iron out.

I'm not sure if it's necessary, but I'm spoiler-tagging end-game talk in case people don't want to know about it yet.

Is it just me or is there something really off in the balance of MR Uragaan? He's in the MR3 optional quests, and I'm handily dispatching MR4 optionals, but I am unable to get him down in the time limit. With bow or Glaive, two weapons I'm pretty proficient with. I never had this issue with HR Uragaan.

On one attempt he had two pretty big fights with other monsters (Fulgar Angie and a Dodo), I dropped 2 crystal clusters on him, and cut off his tail, etc. Yet he never even limped. Something seems wrong with that.

That is odd. i remember HR Uragaan being particularly susceptable to glaive, especially with a flight gem. He's at just the right height to eat all 4 of the spinning air attacks you can chain together

Yeah, it's really strange. Both my glaive and my kinsect are tier 10. I'm able to mount the idiot plenty of times. Claw onto him and run him into walls, everything. Plenty of orange damage. Have no idea what I'm doing, but there's clearly something off somewhere.

Mr. X skin for the handler

I can't wait for the Black Eagle Charge Blade! It's soooooo pretty. I can't decide how to split between ghat and the Usurper Blade!

It is very pretty. It looked like a lot of MH fans were upset that it won because there have already been lightning charge blade winners, but as a new charge blade user, I'm ok with it

It would be nice if one of the less popular weapons could have a shot at winning one of those contests, but I can't see that happening. Really, I just think it would have been amazing to have the gunlance that's a mech fist with a mech fist shield:
