Forza Motorsport 7 Catch-All

Speaking of earning rare cars, there's a rivals challenge active right now. Details from the weekly news post:

Josef Newgarden Bounty Hunter

Think you’re faster than the 2017 IndyCar champion, Josef Newgarden? Now you can prove it with our inaugural Forza Motorsport 7 Bounty Hunter event, live now in the game. As we announced last weekend during our livestream debut, Josef will be setting times in this event and taking on the Forza community in the process. We’ve got a couple of important updates to the event that I wanted to make you aware of. First, please take note of Josef’s correct Gamertag; it’s JNRACERTPX2 (yes, it was announced incorrectly during the live show). Be sure to add Josef to your Xbox Live friends’ list so you can take on his time. Secondly, as of today Josef has posted his first lap time in the event, a sterling 1:47.530 as of this publishing. (For those keeping score, that’s two-tenths faster than me! Grr…)

Finally, let’s talk prizes. For this Bounty Hunter, we’ve got two very special reward cars on tap. For everyone who sets a time in the event, we’ll be sending the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro Super Sport. All players who beat Josef’s final time will receive the 1977 Holden Torana A9X Forza Edition. That’s two cars that aren’t currently available anywhere else in Forza Motorsport 7. So what are you waiting for? Get to hot-lapping!

I'm not good enough to even get close to his time, which makes me sad because I'd love a Forza Edition of the Torana -- I loved that car in Horizon 3. Still, good fun trying, and I'll get a sh*tty American muscle car that I don't care about for my efforts when the challenge ends.

I had an awesome race experience last night.

Racing in the last race of the Seeker's Cup open series. I was in an Audi R8 LMS. At the top of the series leader board with only 5 SP separating me and #2 (also in a R8 LMS).

The race was at Rio Janeiro. Typical city street course. Narrow. Like racing in a test tube.

It's the middle of lap 2 and I've battled my way to 5th. It's looking grim for the series as the other LMS is up ahead somewhere. I can see him, though, and the course is fairly long, so I feel there's still a chance. I get tapped from behind just as I crest a rise (and, therefore, light) and next thing I know and ping-ponging off the barriers on each side. When the spinning stops, I'm facing 90 degrees across the track and nobody's getting past. I 'k-turn' my way down track and start off. Behind me it's a mess. Cars every which way and piled up 2 deep.

I take off after the leaders but can only claw my way to 4th place before the end of the race. Ah well, I think, I may have lost the series but I've a great replay to save!!

and then the game gives me a hard crash and one of the first BSDs I've had in Windows 10.

*sigh*

I just started the game, and in my first championship run, I had two CTD's in my fourth event race for the championship.

Didn't have any problems with FH3. Guess it's my turn.

Will see if there are any driver updates.

Arise!

So getting my X next week and looking at getting the Deluxe edition. After having read through the thread I’m still unsure of the verdict on this game.

With the changes to VIP, is it now worth the extra $20? Also, is anyone still playing or has everyone pretty much moved on? I doubt I’d play much MP anyways so doesn’t matter that much but was just curious. Doubt I’ll be playing much on PC so the poor performance there won’t be an issue for me. Word is that this is the game to get to show off the power of the X on a 4K TV though.

I am still having fun with it. I put it on hold until the VIP patch dropped, and am now getting back into it.

It’s absolutely beautiful on my S/4K, and I am really looking forward to Tuesday for full 4K/HDR goodness. The X assets dropped this weekend.

The visuals are amazing, and seeing the sun rise as you race is soooo cool. Rain effects are wild, too. They have raised the bar again on this series.

On the downside, the UI changes are still a mixed bag. The one thing that I am annoyed to have to get used to is the lap split times showing in blue, regardless of whether you are under or over. Previous versions (am I crazy here?) displayed in green or red, for under or over. Now I have to look up for a spit second hunting for a + or - and I really don’t want the distraction.

Also, the massive reduction in Rivals events is a bummer for me. I liked having one or more for every track.

Overall, a lot of fun and stunningly beautiful. I’d say go for it.

Ok, I downloaded the Deluxe Edition and ran a few races. I have to say, I’m not good at racing games but in my first few races I was unable to pass anyone. I started all of my races towards the back and finished them where I ended up after the first turn. With the homologous business it seems that unless someone makes a mistake in front of me I’m not going to be catching them. I didn’t get passed either except for the beginning of the race since I don’t seem to be able to accelerate as fast as the competition.

I guess I just have to get good and turn faster lap times. This is the first time I’m really thinking about getting a racing wheel.....

Picked this up in the Black Friday sale and it's fair to say this game is totally not aimed at me. But I'm also having a great time with it.

The game keeps throwing cars at me, from loot crates, level ups and some races and I go "Neat! That's a nice car!" and then go back to my hot hatch racing around and around, enjoying trading paint with an AI that's actually not bad, if a bit dense in places.

Then I win some fancy new outfit too and that's cool - I can wear some kind of Karate gi with a red helmet. That works with a Honda Civic, right?

I ordered a new wheel from Fanatec in their Black Friday sale and when that comes I'll try again to get a wheel going with the game - something I haven't managed successfully with my current Fanatec - but it plays ok with the 360 controller.

The biggest difference between a wheel and controller isn't necessarily outright speed, it's lap-on-lap consistency, but the default setup for the controller seems OK, without that side-to-side steer-and-counter-steer sawing you frequently get with thumbsticks.

I tried out some multiplayer and was absolutely smoked, even though the field was allegedly homologated. I'm usually somewhere in the back of the top split in iRacing, so I was surprised to be so far off the pace. I'm not sure if that's because I'm not used to racing in a more arcadey fashion, or if not all "500" car ratings are equal.

Am I supposed to rip all the stuff off my car and rebuild it back to 500 points, but heavily skewed toward one element? Am I supposed to game the system by taking heavier parts to drive down the ratings so I can load on more power?

One thing to consider in multiplayer is whether you are using manual or automatic transmission. Once you learn the mechanic and get it down, someone shifting manually will always beat an automatic, everything else being equal.

Always manual.

I come from England, where an automatic is something you get if you fail your real driving test four times.

Love this. It's crazy, it's hard to find a new car with a manual transmission. It's a huge pain.

Yeah, I moved to New England from Classic England and I'm trying to buy a manual right now. It's not the easiest process.
