BioWare's Anthem Catch-All

Pages

We finally know what the team at BioWare that should have been working on Mass Effect: Andromeda has been working on. Project Dylan has been revealed as Anthem. I am not sure they could have come up with a more generic name but Destiny was already taken

Anyway game look pretty cool. It is a game where you take on the role of Tony Stark's descendant in a far off future where something has happened to render whatever planet you are on inhospitable to humans. Lots of unknowns but the trailer looks pretty awesome.

TEASER:

TRAILER:

If this game is half as good as it looks I'll be quite happy.

If it pulls off both open-world exploration and great action then I'm in.

I really want this to be great. I think it looks good, I think that the Bioware A Team always does a good job.

I fear it will be like Vanilla Destiny and Vanilla Division (which it is giving off very similar vibes to), out of the gate it will be seriously lacking content and people will blow through it quickly and then start complaining.

I hope what is there is good, and I hope they have a really good DLC plan. These types of games are designed to sell DLC, I just hope Anthem's is full of new and unique content.

There is also probably 0 chance of them launching in 2018, Spring 2019 for sure. Which is fine by me.

I really just want one thing from this game.
That it can be played 100% solo.

I am not going to get that am I.

This is based on the Ayn Rand book, right?

nope

This looks like it might scratch my Firefall itch. Warframe didn't do it for me.

I was actually surprised at how interested I was in this. However, like Kamakazi says, it depends on a lot of factors. Namely: if they drop during a Destiny 2 expansion, in which case there's no way in Hell I'll be buying this new day one.

But a man can dream! I also wish it was single player, or had at least a solid single-player campaign in addition to whatever multiplayer madness they want to do.

Looks great. Can't say Bioware has had many misses so my hopes are high. Thought there were rumors of a Bioware Star Wars game. Guess not.

I'm interested.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought of Firefall when watching the trailer. I miss that game sometimes...

Looks great, I'm far more excited for Anthem than for Destiny 2.

Oh please let this game be good.

All I could think was "I get to be Iron Man". I'm on board with that.

No, you get to be War Machine. Iron Man also puts in long hours designing the suits and presumably putting up the production line or craftsmanship for them. Not that it appears like he does any of that, for some reason. Sometimes, I think that Tony's secret power is time manipulation.

Game I'm most excited about out of E3. And it's only 1.5 years away!

Ugh. Huge new sci-fi IP from Bioware. I'd be all over this but the multiplayer focus has me feeling wary and ambivalent.

I fear I'll have the same problems with it as I do with MMO's:

1. Feel like I have to get in at the beginning or the game has already left me behind
2. Initial excitement slowly gives way to boredom with the inevitable grind, but I still feel compelled to play nonetheless
3. Frustrated by my inability to experience high end content (raids, especially) due to not having enough time or in-game friends
4. No clear ending to the plot, so my playtime will slowly taper down due to burnout rather than getting that feeling of satisfaction from a completed game
5. Much later, reading about future expansions and thinking about the game wistfully, but not jumping back in due to my previously developed aversion to it and lack of free time

If this works, I hope they continue to add to it instead of killing it and making a sequel like Destiny did.

My guess is that it will have a long tail of DLC, multi-year, but there will be a burn-it-down sequel. The chance to reset the player base, bring in new people, and get that sweet cash hit will, in my opinion, just be too tempting.

I just don't think we are yet at a time where the WoW model of constant expansions works for console games. I don't think enough people would come back for DLC X but they would for Anthem 2.

I know this is my own stupid thing, but I hate when something is titled "2" when I haven't played "1." It immediately puts me off.

I actually like sub-titles that don't use numbering in any way.

I suppose you are right. I'm stuck thinking in PC terms like WoW or ESO I guess.

Also, for most of the games with endless DLC tails, at some point isn't it just a new game anyway? Ship of Theseus.

I understand mental holdups though.

How many of those NPCs can I romance? And will the internet call the NPC everyone romances an inappropriate name?

Exactly. I couldn't get the Division out of my mind when watching this trailer. I was so hyped for that game but it came out of the gate rather bland. This game certainly looks more intriguing from the trailers but I'm not going to get overly hyped until I know more.

Not just you. I'm significantly less likely to get Destiny 2 or even RDR 2 since I haven't played their predecessors. Wish they had come out on PC.

Hmm, so if I walk through a disheveled open air market to its courtyard, I can be Ironman too?
Is that all it takes? Just walk into the suit of armor and BAM, its mine to do as I please?

Looks great! Yet I agree with others that even if it does launch with a decent amount of content, going forward the time it will take to create new content has to be through the roof unless most of it is procedural. (like the Division)

This announcement seems weirdly coincidental to the new Monster Hunter of all things. Drop in and out co-op, giant monsters to kill, different weapon loadouts, etc. Actually, this seems like the AAA lovechild of Destiny and MH. I wouldn't be surprised if EA went to Bioware and the heads at Capcom both pointed at an image of Destiny and said 'do that, but better' to their respective teams.

The future future of self-driving Uber cars.
If you dont turn it back in when your time is up, it will deliver you back to the nearest police station.

I have a bit of an unfounded fear that the focus of this franchise will permanently detract from Mass Effect, and that this is the beginning of a slow death for the ME franchise.

Still very stoked for this, however.

This looks really cool, but it's a bummer that ME:A didn't have access to the resources that went into this.
