Kingdom Come: Deliverance - Catch All

I'm really excited to get my hands on the combat system for this game.

Me too. I thought I had backed the KS but apparently didn't. No wonder the delays haven't bothered me.

Backed KCD a few years ago and am glad to see it not only come together with a release date set, but also looking really good!

No love for this a week out?

I can't wait but at least we have a new taste of civ to tide us over.

I saw that someone bought it in my Steam Activity list, checked out what it was, then immediately added it to my wishlist. I also saw that 2 friends have it, and 21 have it on their wishlists.

A $59.99 price tag combined with my already massive backlog will keep it in my wishlist for a while, I'd guess, unless the reviews are absolutely incredible.

But what is it? Is it an RPG? Action game? Open world? On the rails?

Very open world, single player, RPG with realistic historical combat.

One of the cool things is that this is supposed to be a living world. For example if you start a quest but get distracted doing something else that quest after some time will end and you have to deal with the results.

I'll go with "Skyrim - magic + realistic combat"

The rare game I've actually bugged PR about because I'm definitely curious and I think getting early access would be good in case it's a complete tire fire. Based on the footage it has the feeling of an overly ambitious Euro-game, hope I'm wrong!

I watched 15-20 minutes of an hour-long video of gameplay/interview with a PR guy from the company. I'd revise my description to "Germanic Skyrim - magic + realistic combat".

Likely totally inaccurate impressions...

• The company PR guy was praising the dialogs but things seemed wooden to me. Conversations seemed clunky and disconnected. Writing seemed functional yet bland. The main story of revenge for slaughtered parents/home village is painfully cliche.

• High attention to realism in combat, movement, healing, stealth, everything. This may be a great thing, but I wonder how much it'll compromise gameplay rather than enhance it. I mean, fast healing is unrealistic, sure, but there's a reason it exists in almost all RPGs.

• I really liked the visuals. The attention to detail on recreating an historic 15th century environment shows, and although the graphics don't seem astounding, there is a gritty, realistic feel to the landscape.

• With no magic and hyper-realistic combat as a goal, I wonder how much variety there will be in the action and gameplay. Unless the combat and stealth models run deep and engaging—which I'm not convinced they will—I could see this getting quite repetitive. The combat scenes didn't impress me as being all that different from any other RPG, despite what the PR guy was saying. Stealth did look fun, though.

• I have no idea whether this will be wildly successful or fall totally flat. If it's successful, it seems like it will have captured that Dark Souls "super hard fun" vibe. If I had to say how it will go, I'll bet on ...

"Largely a failure, but captures the hearts and minds of a niche audience."

If they allow Bethesda-style modding, however, all bets are off, and I could see this totally taking off.

EDIT: Ohhh! Apparently they are highly supportive of modding the game, and there is a group already making a Game of Thrones conversion mod.

The plot thickens!

The game is meant to be story-driven and reactive in the way Elder Scrolls games market themselves as being. Whether they pull it off is the big question, but they built this from the ground up to basically be Elder Scrolls meets Way of the Samurai.

Well, I’ll be able to offer some impressions, but embargoed until Tuesday morning.

Woot!!

Awesome! Looking forward to hearing them.

I’m pretty excited about this now, given the modding support.

GMG is offering 25% discount for this one, so I caved.

I have tons of concerns about this game but then again, it's probably one of the most unusual games for me to be interested in. I am hoping that at least the discovery/learning process is going to be fun.

I'm sorry to say I've had access to the beta for quite some time now as a KS backer. I went so far as to download it and never fire it up. I'm regretting that now as I would've had some impressions for yall!

Don't feel bad, that beta is 2 years old and doesn't really represent the game that will be released on Tuesday.

Thanks! At the current price, I'm still in "You go first" mode!

I look forward to reading any impressions you might have.

I am a KS user who never reads any updates (and neeeeeeeeeever tries any betas) until the thing is released or nearly so, so it was nice to see today's update make it available in my Steam library. I backed the thing so long ago I thought it was a good chance I made a nice charitable donation to some overindulgent devs, so it was nice to hear it pinged a bit on the conference call a couple weeks ago. Who knows? Maybe it'll actually be good.

I’ve played 16 hours in the last three days.

So that means we'll hear about it Tuesday night when the next conference call drops, based on your playtime through Sunday evening when recording? Cool if so. Is that with or without the 23 GB day-1 patch?

It's the PC version so I think that stuff is already rolled in.

Certis, how are you playing early? Would love to play this today.

Press release. Only other way if it is still possible and not locked down for launch is if you were a Kickstarter.

I kickstarted it, but it is showing still locked on STEAM? Can I play early on PC, Ran?

Access now depends on level of pledge. I only signed up for the Soldier 15 pound version so must wait until Tuesday.

I got review code for the game, my assumption is it unlocks on Tuesday for everyone.

Very conflicted on the game considering the head of the studio is a GamerGate supporter.

Yeah, I've been looking into that a bit. This is the latest statement from him in last month which looks at the game's representation of the time period and the area it takes place in. It also looks back on the GG stuff.

Well there's the problem right there:

"I see myself as a liberal person, whose highest good is the maximum personal freedom of all people, as long as this freedom does not affect the rights and the integrity of other people." - Vavra

There are too many competing groups that believe in that ideal, but no way those groups would agree what the appropriate balance is to achieve it. This lack of consensus has been an American problem since Brown v. Board of Education (1950s), and has continued since then into discussions of gender, sexuality, disabilities, and probably other issues. It's interesting, and kind of sad, watching all this play out in a very diverse world of different cultures and a globalized market for films, music, and games, with of course leads to these accusations and misunderstandings.

Maybe we can agree that the middle of Europe in the 15th century wasn't ready for MLK Jr. or Betty Friedan and move on and enjoy the game?
