NFL 2017 Post-Draft Offseason

Today's WYTS is ... the Panthers!

It's all fair and accurate, except for the part about Kelvin Benjamin being fat. He showed up at camp at 243, which is fine for him. He's still slow and has an occasional case of the Ginns, however.

The part about the fan base is right on. Cam hasn't practiced much in the last week -- his shoulder still isn't right -- and there's a not-insignificant portion of the Carolina fan base that would love nothing more than to see Derek Anderson be the permanent No. 1 QB. (No one's calling for the backup QB who didn't play for the Browns. I WONDER WHY.)

The last time Anderson started ...

Good times.

I can't believe we are going to start the season with Mallett.

Someone just told me "it is because he fits the scheme and Kaep doesn't". When I pressed him, he told me there was "no place in Baltimore for a mobile qb".

Which, of course, perfectly explains why we drafted and kept on as our primary backup this guy.

Back before the great Freeman implosion and he was playing great, there was a contingent of Bucs fans who clamored for Luke McCown, for I'm sure very solid reasons that just might rhyme with "stupid f*cking racist dickwads."

Also, "Kelvin Benjamin is fat" jokes will never die.

Yeah, this situation right here is nonsense. For the same reason Cutler makes sense for Miami because of Adam Gase, Kaepernick should be in Baltimore with Greg Roman.

I now understand why Josh Freeman is out of the league; Kelvin Benjamin ate him.

Branden Albert has unretired, will report to Jaguars camp.

ESPN is reporting that the Jags are unlikely to take him back.

I hate when mom and dad fight.

It's missing a cigarette.

Devonta Freeman was given an extension by the Falcons for another 5 years. The details on the money haven't been issued so who knows what sort of contract it really is, but it does add an extra $40 million to his tab.

More importantly, the Lions released their first depth chart for the season. Greg Robinson is starting at LT. Poor Matt Stafford.

Robinson the newly-minted LT in Detroit, and Mike Remmers in Minnesota. The NFC North; where bad left tackles go to get another chance to get a QB killed.

Other than Stafford himself, I'm not sure there is another player the Lions could have ill-afforded to lose to injury than Taylor Decker at LT. A brutal loss at a position where they had zero depth.

Don't worry. If Greg Robinson can't cut it, they also signed Cyrus Kouaijoehgdsgjsjmo.

Careful. If you say his name two more times he will appear before you, lunge at you, and miss.

So, Hard Knocks premiered last night and even resident Bucs fan the Milkman can't be bothered to watch it, apparently.

Started to watch it last night. Then switched to Jalen and Jacoby. I'm pretty sure their take on Cutler was more entertaining than the Bucs.

Er...I'm a Bucs fan also! Totally did not watch it though.

Yeah but we let you off the hook, we make Milkman take all the sh*t for it.

I don't have HBO, so I'm assuming that means I actually can't watch it. Outside of Jeff Fisher firings, is it ever that interesting, really?

Actually, it often is pretty interesting. It can be a bit contrived, but it can be a nice look behind the curtain at what NFL training camp is like for players, from the guy battling for the last spot at his position, to the stars are just getting into game speed shape.

Although it is probably best when it is a team you don't care about so much. When the Chiefs were on, I felt like it was kind of a re-hash of what I already new.

I plan to watch it this weekend, assuming I can get the login to work *and* it's on HBO Go or Now or Soon or Later or whichever one I have the login for.

(No, I don't watch much TV. Why do you ask?)

Yeah, no Freeman infatuation.

HBO Go is the one where you fling the little balls at the screen to try to capture the topless chick before she's eaten by a dragon or murdered by her sister or blows her brother or something, right?

No "looks like." It's all there, bitches!

SCENE 1
Set in auditorium; coach addresses players, most of whom look attentive. One wears a robe.

"Teams are like rockets. Most of the work has to happen beforehand. Once the rocket launches, it's incredibly difficult to change its course mid-flight.

"That's what we're doing right now. We're launching the 2017 Tampa Bay Buccaneers."

Rockets also do this:

This is going to be great.

Update: I'm 20 minutes in, and it's better than I dreamed it would be.

Already, Dirk Koetter has told Jameis that he has to make sure he doesn't lose any games for them. Way to plant that seed, Dirk.

Also, Jon Gruden pops up in the episode because he was at the Bucs complex for a press conference about his upcoming induction into the team's ring of honor. Afterwards, Gruden visits Jameis in the Bucs' QB room and tells him -- no kidding -- to "keep pounding."

Which, unintentional or not, is the motto of a certain Charlotte-based NFC South rival.

Another update: First episode was pretty good. Gerald McCoy is a hoot.

Next week, we get Robert Aguayo and Miko Grimes. Oh boy oh boy oh boy.
