Oh, darn. They won't add his name to the jersey or his face to Draw Play's Browns QB hydra.
Goddamn it I didn't consider this. Osweiler deserves to be on that jersey.
Am I misunderstanding it, or did the Browns basically pay $16 million for a draft pick that would usually go for less than $2 million?
Yup
Damn. Carolina cut two of its backup QBs (Joe Webb, who's also a special-teamer; and camp arm Garrett Gilbert). LB Ben Boulware (Clemson) also got cut.
And in related kicking news, Carolina cut Andy Lee (they got him a year ago) and are shopping incumbent K Graham Gano.
Right Milkman, just seems $16 million was a lot to pay, I don't think it was super smart to spend that much resource to get basically 3rd round value.

I guess not every team appreciates sexual assault style hazing like Clemson.
The Browns brilliantly traded a bunch of money for a 2nd round pick, essentially. It's the kind of thing that happens in the NBA all the time, but don't recall seeing it in the NFL.
A prerequisite for that to happen is guaranteed salary. It would never happen in the NBA either if they could simply cut players and have the salary in those contracts go *poof*.
NFL teams don't typically guarantee a player's salary, and when they do, it's almost always in the very beginning years of a new contract, basically as a cheap way to pump up the guaranteed money figure in a deal (it's supposed to be salary that you're going to pay the guy no matter what, because if you're signing someone to a big deal, you're figuring he's staying at least the first two years).
Houston dun goofed with that Osweiler deal in a way that has very little NFL precedent.
Colts trade Philip Dorsett to Patriots for backup QB Jacoby Brissett.
No Oz in Indy then. And boy, another Indy draft pick really delivering the value, sheesh.

Chuck Pagano and Ryan Grigson have wasted a decent chunk of Luck's career. They should go to jail or something.
Bears cut Aguayo.
Broncos sign The Oz.
Elway lets him go for a year, picks him back up for nothing.

I don't know why. Must be because he knows the offense.
Buccaneers TRADE safety... JJ Wilcox to Steelers for 2018 late round pick.
Chris Conte roster spot safe.
3 more days!
Damn straight! Any StL area folks that want to join me, I will be here:
Since the Week 1 thread probably won't be up until Thursday, here's your link to the GWJ Eliminator / Survivor game for the season.

Let's see if I can play for more than a week this time.
I think I lasted 2 weeks last year.
Maybe I'll do better this year.
Or the Browns. Or the Bears.
I have to imagine a significant number of picks in these pools are just going to be "pick whoever is playing against the Jets".
It seems to be a mix of Jets, Browns and Bears this year.
Jets and Bears, yes.
Browns, not so much. Of all the bad teams they're on the Jacksonville track with plenty of talent that's maybe gonna put it together one of these days.
The Bills may be added to the list soon, depending on how Tyrod Taylor's noggin is.
But if anyone can make a good QB bad it's the Browns.
And then then one of those teams wins a game and knocks our 3/4 of the pool.
I am very concerned about my Bills over Jets pick for this first week.
Bills/Jets and Browns/Jets feel like they're close enough coin flips that I'll choose someone else.
